  1. I had trouble with one of those screws & I think I dremeled two sides on it. Then instead of the socket I used vise grips. I forget where this other crap soft bolt was but I ended up using the dremel to take the head off the bolt & once the piece was free I just grabbed the remaining thread with pliers & viola. Theres lots of soft steel bolts around the clip ons (just a warning )
  2. Of course as Ratchet has stated this was only one single persons experience. I personally dont think theres been a good enough case made by those that have had good results to get me to buy them. Of course if you're willing to spend lots of time & money to get that extra 10 to 15 hp its a free country. I'm not saying that the pistons alone would get you that much, but in combination with a host of other pricey mods thats what you'll end up with. A v11 with maybe 95 or so rwhp would be more fun....is it $3000 plus more fun?
  3. My dealer has an Aprilia/Guzzi computer that plugs right into the ecu. It tells exactly what the tps reading is, as well as battery & all sorts of other things. Pretty cool toy I think & very expensive.
  4. I just had a comedic thought about the author of this thread. I was wondering if his name is really Jerry Atrick or is he being a smartass! GERIATRIC! I mean hey...we aint the youngest crowd in the biking world but we aint riding the Harleys yet
  5. I agree with you about the belt drive. That would shed probably 20lbs, low maintenance to boot. I think that the shaft drive is a Guzzi "thing" so its probably going to stay.
  6. Isnt that Gustaffson? I'd google that name
  7. Am I right to believe Guzzi still makes these MGS bikes? I remember someone here saying they will still build you one if you order it. That bike on ebay says it has one mile, & then in the description they clearly say that it has been ridden. Its probably more like low miles. I'll wait for the new Guzzi sportbike with that 8valve motor in it.
  8. Are you talking about the battery idiot light? GO TRIBE.....BEAT THE SOX!!!
  9. I have found my Rosso Mandello to be very reliable without any work at all. The thing has 23k miles on it & really hasnt given me any static other than what I may have broken or improperly adjusted. Get the suspension set up right for your riding style & just enjoy it for years.
  10. There was a stock oem rear shock on ebay recently. I hate to mention it but you may want to ask Slug if he kept his wrecked bike or let the insurance company have it. As for the aftermarket, I've heard good things about the Wilbers. Its probably $300 or less for a used oem shock, or $700 plus for a "good" one.
  11. I did the same thing with my bike & it does seem more pleasant at lower speeds. Anything under about 60 is pretty much more quiet than with the fairing. Over that speed & the wind becomes more bothersome & I want the fairing back on. Damn thing about most bikes is that if you want one thing you have to give something else up to get it.
  12. This is the v11lemans.com website. If you want to chat about your bike & your bike happens to be a v11, this is the place for you. If you have a v11 & want to bicker about politics there are plenty of places on the web for that as well. Maybe MoveOn.Commy? Or IloveGWBush.Orgasm or greenpeace.bombthrowers Anyway those places are there for you & will welcome you with open arms, (if you're on their side of the fence that is).
  13. I like it The price is very reasonable as well when you look at the mods on it.
  14. My bike was behaving in a very similar way. What I did was replace the stock springs with progressive rate springs. I noticed that from the factory the springs had almost no preload in them which caused my bike to have way too stiff forks to the point that they were like broomsticks. FWIW I never tried to get the preload right with the factory springs so I cant say that the oem stuff wont give you satisfaction. I dont know what the setup for the Ohlins forks are, but it sure sounds like you're not getting much movement in the front. Even now if I turn up the compression & rebound too much my bike will behave almost exactly like what you describe yours is acting. Check your sag settings to make sure you're getting enough movement in your forks. Everyone elses advice about the bearings is worth checking into as well.
  15. Hey I have to throw my in here. I bought my '01 Rosso Mandello with 300 miles on it & now the bike has about 23 thousand miles on it with very little problems from the factory at all. I think they had a wrong fuse in the fusebox & an ignition screw backed out but thats it. Not all of these bikes come from the factory with problems! This is a great place to find solutions to any mechanical problem you may have with your bike, but dont get the impression that all of the bikes from Mandello are halfass rattletraps. If you just want to ride after work & not have to screw with the thing too much you should have bought a Honda or some other common motorcycle.
  16. You know it sure would be nice if there was a groove cut into either side of that drive plate. Something just big enough to get two nice flat blade screwdrivers to pry it open.
  17. I sure would like one of those Parabellum sport shields like the one on the Bonneville. A good 20" would be great in the cold weather or for a long ride. Has anyone tried to fit one of those on their bike yet?
  18. It should make sense to grease the cush, then ride a hundred or so miles. After that take the back wheel off, wipe it down including all the grease around the edges of the cush drive cover. This should mean that the grease thats still in the cush is the "appropriate" amount. Maybe we shoud have another 100 posts trying to measure the exact amount of grease that should go in without making a mess while riding. Someone could even design a sealed cush grease chamber & sell it to all of us who would like one Or how about a patented cush drive grease catcher? The global warming greenies would love that one I think Moto Guzzi already designed a cush drive that needed no grease at all but we cant leave that alone now can we?
  19. I just sent Todd an email with my weight & told him what I needed. You'll get better, more specific answers about the products if you email him. I think the price was $139 Email todd@guzzitech.com he'll set you up you're likely to pay 2 hours labor, but thats a guess I put an Ohlins 9.5kg spring in the rear shock earlier this summer
  20. I recently bought a set of Hyperpro fork springs from ToddatGuzziTech.com & I'm thrilled with them. Now that I have the front set up right the handling & ride is 100% better. From the factory the springs had almost no preload in them which made the bike ride like it was on broomsticks instead of forks. It really didnt seem to matter what I did with the compression or rebound settings before, the bike was just stiff up front. The hyperpro springs are almost 3 inches longer than the stock ones which probably adds to the better damping. Once I got them preloaded correctly the bike got good laden & unladen sags. TBH I never tried to add preload to the stock springs to see how well they would have worked, but that was definitely the problem. Now the bike soaks up nasty bumps in the road even when leaned over hard, which is something that always scared the hell out of me before. This is hands down the best modification I have done or probably will be able to do to my bike. The second best mod was switching to the 160 rear tire from the 170. This is me after a good ride now
  21. I see you found a sugar daddy to buy you those Leo Vince cans!! The bike is beautiful, I'd love to have one someday. Tell the truth Ben...is it like sitting on an uncomfortable wooden box?
  22. Hey I bought a set of Harbor Freight once because they practically gave them to me. I dont see as how they're any less quality than a Craftsman allen wrench. Of course I've heard what some of you think of the Craftsman allens! Maybe they'll snap like a toothpick if I really had to put the meat to 'em but they fit the Guzzi bolt heads nicely enough. I have a long one that I particularly like for removing the axles. P.S. The metal box they came in was practically made from tin foil lol it was so cheap.
  23. Try Ebay, they have the starters for $200 there all the time.
  24. Has anyone here tried the Ghezzi kit mentioned? In the past I've seen lots of engine mods but I have yet to see anyone get 100 rwhp. I'd say anything over 90 rwhp would make for a good buy if it wasnt too expensive.
