  1. Hmm they had the KTM setup at the Cleveland show last week Ben. Come to think of it Triumph hasnt had a booth setup for at least the last two years now. I dont know...I thought it was worth the $12 just to try on all the new helmets & sit on all the new bikes. Plus there had to be the smokin hotties handing out bags in Minnesota too right? I never get tired of looking at them either.
  2. If I could get that logo on a t shirt instead of a patch I would definitely buy one.
  3. Well winter has finally set in very well here in Ohio. I havent ridden the bike in over 2 weeks & theres no break in sight. The high temps the next two days are in the 20's. After that the highs will only be about 10 degrees for a while. Well on the positive side, I have plenty of time to save money for that new helmet I've been wanting! Here in Ohio we can either have a fairly mild February or it can be just as brutally cold as the rest of the winter. So far its looking pretty bad. I havent even been out to the garage to look at the bike let alone start it up. Besides I've read that its not a good idea to start the motor when its very cold anyway.
  4. I agree with you about trying on the hemets first. I did try on several helmets & narrowed it down to either the rf1000 or the Multitec. They both fit my head very well & they feel like a high quality helmet. I really think I'm leaning toward the Multitec, but it will cost a lot more money. Maybe I'll have to get both lol
  5. I just came back from the big CycleWorld bike show in Cleveland. I've been wanting to upgrade & get a very good top of the line helmet. I tried a few brands on & I liked the Shoei RF1000 & the Shoei Multitec the best of the bunch. Caberg's Justissimo flip up was $100 less & had a lot more features, but it didnt feel as good as the Multitec to me. Arai is supposed to be a very good helmet maker too but the one I tried on wasnt for my head. I guess the only thing left for me to decide is should I get the flip up version Shoei or the conventional version rf1000 for less money. I doubt if very many of you have the Multitec yet as its a new model, but if you do let me know if you like it.
  6. Well Andy, there have been rumours that the first "numbered" collectible RM's sold very well so Guzzi made 300 more "un numbered" versions. I've never heard of them having the tanks resprayed over the green though Did you buy your bike brand new from the factory? If you bought it used I'd say the p/o probably either dented or scratched the tank & replaced it with a used green one & had it painted to match. Is your bike a numbered bike? If it is there will be the number on the side panel. You can also tell from the VIN # on the frame.
  7. I have a Rosso too Andy & I'm not at all worried about the flywheel failing. There are about 600 rosso mandellos & about 200 or so Tenni's without one single failure that I have heard of yet. Its been more than 5 years now since those bikes hit the street so I think its worry free now. I think Guzzi just couldnt afford to do the recall of all the Scura flywheels back a few years ago after all the other recalls they had to do. It does seem like they are crossing their fingers & hoping a few more years go by without anyone getting into an accident because of that flywheel. I cant help but think someone will get seriously hurt sooner or later because of this. They didnt build all that many of them & I'm sure some of them have been wrecked & are off the road. Then theres all the people that replaced the part on their own. I doubt if theres more than 500 bikes left out there by now with the time bomb still ticking in them.
  8. I agree with Carl about the Twinmax. It works well, & you can find it on the internet for under $100.
  9. I had the same problem with my Rosso. What I did was to take off the starter & first I just greased the gear inside there. After that I thought about it & removed the starter again & sprayed the gear & shaft really well with wd40. I havent heard that grinding sound since then. It may be the battery as some have said as my battery is the original one from the factory in my bike. Its now 6 years old I guess.
  10. My first question is, did you buy the head guards for the round head or round fin model? If you did they wont fit a v11 anyway. At least I dont think they will.
  11. Wow that is a very thorough & detailed thread on the rear drive. That will probably come in handy to a few of us in the upcoming years & miles on our bikes.
  12. Oh its more likely than not that something was a little wrong with your rear drive when new. I was just saying that I've heard several forum members talk about the silvery metal residue when changing their trans/rear drive oil. My experience was that I had the silvery metal residue in my trans & rear drive oil when I changed it until I used the redline product. It may well be a coincidence that the gears had mated well together by the time I got around to using the redline instead of conventional oil. I'd say my bike had around 9000 miles on it when I did the switch & 17000 miles when I drained it out. I did the rear drive at the same time & I expect to pick up some more redline next weekend & I'll keep you posted on whether theres any residue in the rear drives old oil when I swap it out. I first changed the trans & rear drive oil at about 1500 miles then again at 5000 miles with the same silver residue. Thats what leads me to believe that the redline is a superior product right now.
  13. I know about the silvery color to the gearbox & rear drive units oil when it is drained. I've since switched to RedLine heavy shockproof fluid & when I drained the gearbox it looked pretty much like it did when I put it in. No silver color to it at all after about 7 or 8k miles. I havent drained the rear drive yet because I need to get another quart of the redline but I'll post about wether theres a silver color to that used oil. I thought that it just shouldnt be as bad as it was so I tried the synthetic redline. It improved the gearbox action with the shifting. I cant really tell a difference with the rear drive as far as riding it. I believe Guzzi probably saved a few nickels per bike by using cheaper bearings, so I'll only use synthetic oil from now on in both the gearbox & especially the rear drive.
  14. Its coming time to replace my fork oil again this spring. I am interested in getting the stiffer springs & whatever other components are needed to improve my ride. I weigh about 165lbs without the riding gear, so figure 180ish. Can someone tell me who to buy from & what spring I need for my weight? Oh & if you can tell me about what it should cost for the parts I'd be grateful.
  15. Yes Paul, fortunately it seems limited just to the Scura model. I cannot imagine that if there were a problem with the Tenni's or RM's it would have had to have shown up by now. Mine has 17k miles on it & the clutch is just fine.
  16. Am I just imagining this or have others failed at 16k kilometers? I remember recently member Ozzy I think had a failure at 16k. That is still an ongoing thing though & hasnt been confirmed as a definite flywheel failure yet. I'm not an elephant & dont claim to have that kind of memory but 16k miles or kilometers just sounds like I've heard that number before when talking about this problem. Am I crazy? Ok lol, nevermind the crazy part
  17. Theres a small washer that belongs in the angle drive somewhere. I've had the whole works apart & I cant figure where that little washer came from or goes back to! I checked the pdf file & it shows the angle drive & the gear that goes into the trans but I dont see that little bugger anywhere! Does anyone know where this thing should go?
  18. I bought the TwinMax & I'm happy with how it works. You can get one for less than $100 delivered on the internet. I dont know a thing about the tps or the other stuff lol.
  19. I have a slight wobble in my speedo needle, nothing serious just within a 2 mph thing. I checked the cable where it mounts at the tranny, lubed it with RedLine shockproof. Tightened it back down & it still does the same thing. Is this a normal thing for my bike? Should I chase the line from the trans to the speedo to look for kinks? Or could it be in the speedo dial housing? The tachometer works perfectly which is funny because thats the one I hear has the most trouble. Any advice?
  20. I can see why the dealer doesnt want to fix the clutch. Its considered a wearable item much like brake pads. Its kind of a shame that its such a big job to get at the clutch/flywheel, but thats what the deal is I guess. I'm waiting to hear from someone who's put one of those Scola flywheel setups in their bike. I'm hoping my setup lasts for several more years but when its time to swap out I want lighter, better, faster
  21. There was a recent new thead of an Italian MG aftermarket racing type company that has a new lightweight flywheel. I forget the name at the moment but I'll try to look it up. the flywheel is made by Scola, the thread is in technical topics dated dec 12
  22. I would not try to ride it thats for sure :!: it sounds like you may have gotten lucky in that it didnt fail at a high rate of speed. It may not be the fractured flywheel, but I'd have a mechanic look at it.
  23. Should there be an east coast Norge rally in Norge, Va? Enquiring minds need to know!
  24. Ok I dont get it either When I first read it I thought, well it must be some down under lingo that I dont understand. Maybe we can get another Aussie to interpret this post for us northerners.
  25. Yes I agree with all the previous posts. Mine does pretty much the same thing & there doesnt seem to be any harm other than it stains my fuzzy black paint.
