  1. That looks like a real blast of a ride! I live in Ohio so its unlikely I'll get to see those mountains anytime soon. Someday though I want to take the desert route to California & go up the pch to Canada & then head east back home. What I really want to see the most of anything is the Redwood trees.
  2. Its 20w50....I like Castrol full synthetic myself. Everyone else will have their own opinion on the brand, but the manual calls for 20w50.
  3. Go for the Heavy Shockproof. Its good in the rear drive too.
  4. That seems pretty normal to me. I saw the same thing when I changed my trans fluid. Btw I hope you used RedLine Heavy Shockproof, that made a big improvent in my bike. I havent drained the Redline from my tranny yet but I expect to see less of that metal on my magnet when I do.
  5. Well its arthritis according to the doctor. I probably need to follow up on the problem & get some better meds but its a pain in the ass.
  6. Congratulations! Its good to hear that theres hope for those of us with work/life related injuries to our hands & wrists. Usually when I get off my bike I have to be very careful removing my gloves because of the pain in my thumbs. Unfortunately for you now winter is coming on soon Oh well, at least when spring does come you'll be well healed & ready for long enjoyable riding.
  7. Which recall is being done? Is it the transmission recall? If so I'd ask them to check the pawl spring just to be safe.
  8. I think the secret ingredient is bullshit! lol Anyone who would spend that much money on a milk jugs worth of fuel deserves to be seperated from his money! Its kind of scary to think such people are allowed to drive at all.
  9. Ok my bike has almost 16k miles on it now. My front pads still look pretty decent but...you can never replace the pads or tires too soon imo. The stock pads have always made a noise when braking, nothing annoying just like a whirring or similar sound. Is there a quieter pad that offers as good performance? I doubt that this should turn into an oil type thread lol but I want some opinions on what you like. Throw your at me :!:
  10. Ok this grenading clutch thing you've heard of does exist, BUT it is a bit of a red herring. There have only been a dozen or so that have "exploded". And the ones that have are limited to the Scura model v11, there has not been even one case that I know of for failures in other models. The Rosso Mandello & the Tenni model v11 have the same type of clutch but there has not been one single failure in those models that I am aware of, & believe me if it were a problem we would be well aware of it here. If you want a v11 but are worried about the clutch just dont buy the Scura, simple as that.
  11. The Nero Corsa had the red covers as well.
  12. Yes taking off the fairing is a pretty easy thing to do.. I think you may need a different headlight though others here have recently done this project & will probably give you all the info you need. In any case dont worry, the naked look is easy & cheap to do.
  13. Well they only made about 600 Scuras right? How many of the owners have already changed the clutch? How many of the bikes are wrecked & out of circulation? MG is twiddling their thumbs & riding the clock out on this issue. They just have to hope that nobody gets seriously hurt when one of those clutches explodes at speed.
  14. Is that a crack in the flywheel?
  15. I would take the $500 & buy good safety/riding gear instead of trying to tinker with the motor. There also seems to be a lot of argument over the benefit of high compression pistons. $500 in engine mods would barely make any difference, but take the same $500 & get a top shelf helmet or leather jacket & now you've definitely improved your riding experience Personally I like the way my mostly stock v11 runs & I've found that the better the gear the better the ride. I would entertain the idea of modifying my bike but I have yet to see anyone get much better than low 90's hp numbers at the cost of several thousand dollars. JMO of course
  16. Also try ebay & just type in Moto Guzzi. Theres always lots of Guzzi stuff on ebay.
  17. If you're asking does my bike make that rattling noise, the answer is yes. It sounds like a bunch of coins in a coffee can in nuetral lol. I've grown to like it though
  18. I'm curious as I've never heard of anyone with a Tenni or Rosso Mandello with clutch problems. Has someone here with either of those other bikes reported a clutch failure yet? Its been a long time since those bikes have hit the streets & I havent heard anything bad yet. Mine just turned 15k miles & runs + shifts perfectly.
  19. Haha I guess its true what they say about one mans heaven being another mans hell!
  20. I bought my ngk plug wires from MGCYCLE.com. I've bought other things from them with no problems. Nice site with lots of stuff. I'm glad I decided to check out this thread. Its always good to get a reminder of the need to wear safety gear all the time. I always wear the helmet, when its hot outside I often neglect to put on the armor under my jeans. Its easy to wear atgatt now because its cooler & it helps to keep me warm. That shattered kneecap is a very scary sounding thing. Its hard to believe there isnt a prosthetic kneecap available.
  21. Your bike has a single plate clutch. It makes a rattling sound in nuetral. When you pull the clutch handle in the rattle will stop. This is perfectly normal, however you have a Scura which may potentially have a very serious defect in the clutch. Your bike is probably just fine because thats what they sound like. I have the single plate clutch in mine & it makes a lot of noise too. There are lots of threads in this forum concerning your bike & its potential for what we call a "grenading clutch". Your best bet is to get a new aftermarket clutch put in eventually. Tell us how many miles it has & any other things you notice about the clutch.
  22. Gawd! It sounds like I should drive up to Summit Racing & pick up a case or two of RedLine Shockproof & only charge $5 for shipping to all you guys! $10 shipping seems like a ripoff for a 2lb item. I'd only need to ship about say.....700 quarts or so & I could afford that pretty new titanium exhaust on Ebay!
  23. I was thinking of polishing that cover too. Tell us how you polished yours. I was thinking of using a dremel to do it if theres a polishing tool that fits it. I didnt realize the cover was aluminum either, I thought it was some cheap metal. I could have it powder coated for free where I work as long as I want either dark green or grey. Actually I've thought of powder coating it just to see how well the powder coat finish stands up to the abuse of the road debris.
  24. If you're concerned about lead dust poisoning from the lead shot, try to find the copper coated shot. I bought a bag of copper coated lead shot at sports shop for around $20 for a 10lb bag if I remember right. It takes some of the vibes out but I think a set of heavy throttlemeisters are a much better way to go. My friend has an 02 Lemans he let me ride with the Throttlemeisters & foam grips. That bike has pretty much zero vibes plus cruise control.
