  1. Many here recommend the Redline shockproof brand for the rear drive & transmission. There are so many threads on this subject already that should answer all your questions. Try a search using redline.
  2. That bike has the same engine as the Norge. I have seen the pictures of the engine in recent MotorCyclist/CycleWorld mags, & that is the same engine. The deeper oilpan gives it away. Also get ready for a liquid cooled Guzzi in the future. There was an article about HD going to a l/c motor for the Sportster 1200 model. Its going to be too difficult to meet emissions & noise standards & meet hp demands from the consumer I guess. Personally I dont have a problem with l/c bikes but I know a LOT of the Guzzi crowd I've met thinks its a sacrilege. Oh well you gotta give a little to get a little I guess. In any case its not happening this year, maybe not even this decade the way Guzzi moves lol. Fwiw I really do like the looks of this new sporty version. I cant wait to see if they bumped up the hp a little. Is 90 rwhp from the crate to much to hope for?
  3. Redline shockproof is $8 a quart where I am. Thats a lot of money for a quart of lube, but it may save you a lot of time & work trying to fix the problem in other ways. I switched to the redline & it does shift better. I also get better shifting when I wear my motorcycle boots. Put the shockproof in the rear drive while you're at it
  4. Ok Gil, The fuel light sensor/connector thing is under the tank of course. It is I believe without going out to look..sort of on the clutch side of the tank. Pull the tank & make sure that the connection is tight & also make sure its not dangling too close to anything hot like the left jug or valve cover. It looks like a male/female connector, black in color & I think its one of the things you have to disconnect to remove the tank but its been awhile since I've had mine off. Other people will throw their advice in on this one anyway & you'll have it solved soon enough. If it really bothers you just leave it disconnected & use your tripmeter to gauge your fuel level.
  5. I use the RedLine Heavy shockproof in my rear drive & my transmission. So far so good I dont know about the rear drive but the bike shifts more smoothly now. Now if I could just get an oil that would put the gears a little closer together lol
  6. This has happened to me a few times as well. Its important to put the intake sleeves on properly for one thing. The main problem that was causing the sleeve to pop off was unbalanced tb's causing the engine to run rough. All the other posts sounded exactly like what happened to mine. It would stay on at speed, but once I let off the speed & slowed down the engine would backfire & off would come the left side sleeve. Always the left side & never the right side. I took my bike to my dealer a few months ago & he checked it out, balanced the tb's. After that the bike has run like a dream & the sleeve stays put right where it belongs. Maybe someone with better writing skills could post a few lines on the proper way to attach the intake sleeves to the tb's? Also check the valve clearances & spark plug gap etc... I have been wanting to remark lately that since the weather has cooled off my Guzzi has been running extremely well and smooth. It has 14k miles on the speedo & runs better than ever. No major problems that some tweaking and adjustments couldnt take care of so far. I have seen several posts lately of bikes with multiple expensive breakdowns and various problems. I would like to knock on wood and just say that so far I think the factory workers must have been just the right amount of drunk the time they put mine together! When my v11 goose is in proper tune & set up right I dont think theres another bike out there that I'd rather ride. It turns heads & performs just well enough for the type of riding that I normally do.

    New ride

You can pick up a Stone for very cheap & accessorize it to match your taste. The only thing is I think it only has one rotor up front instead of two like the california. Maybe a Jackal has more style>?
  8. The Rosso Mandello has factory carbon fiber wrapped steel cans. Without looking at a good picture of your bike its going to be hard to tell you whats on it. The previous owner could have put Mistrals on it, or bought the factory wrapped carbon fiber cans & put those on. The easiest way to tell is to pull one off & weigh it. I have the factory c/f cans & they weigh 9lbs each. The Mistrals will only weigh about 5 or 6lbs.
  9. I have the FBF eliminator kit on my bike & I love the way it looks. They shipped it to me in like 3 business days & it went on pretty easy too. You do have to either use the old turn signals or buy shiny new led turn signals at extra cost In any case it really improves the look of the bike for under $100
  10. I dont see anything wrong with the filter. Mine have that metal strip too. Maybe theres something else in the photo that I'm missing.
  11. With the QuatD you dont have to bother with a crossover either. Just something to think about...

    Silly new toy

That dudes got a great ass! Looks like I need to get me one of those mail order brides!
  13. I have Dainese tci boots. They seem to blend comfort & protection pretty well. Btw I have a pair of Dainese competition leather pants in the ad section if anyones interested
  14. You may also want to check the rubber intake sleeve that is attached between your throttle body & the head. If its loose or cracked & worn you will have that sort of a problem. The other suggestions of the loose coil wire is probably more likely.

I'd recommend the foam handgrips. They have a larger diameter & are much softer & help to reduce the vibes getting to your hands. The bonus is that they're relatively cheap @ around $10, so if you dont like them you can just throw them away. I bought a set & I really like them.
  16. Those shiny pipes really make the discolored clamps stand out in the photos. I'm sure its not noticeable in real life though. Very good looking Guzzi
  17. I have a Dainese Gore tex jacket & its I must say its a very nice jacket. Lots of pockets, removable liner, comfortable. Its supposed to be waterproof but I never ride in the rain so I cant say about that. Its much more comfortable than my Dainese th1 leather jacket but of course if you were to crash I'd think you'd rather have the leather than the gore tex fabric. Life is usually about compromise though, you give & get. I got such a good deal on the jacket that I was just going to resell it on ebay until I wore it a few times. Now its mine until its junk. Thats how good it is.
  18. It could be that your throttle bodies are out of sync. Thats what mine does when the tb's are a little off.
  19. Ok heres what could have happened. Take the valve cover back off & reckeck the clearance of your valves. Sometimes when you tighten the small nut on the valve adjuster it will turn the adjuster knob slightly. It may seem like it didnt move at the time but the knob is very sensitive. Only an 1/8 of a turn of the knob can mean the difference between a good job & a bad job. Dont take any offense please, thats just something that I learned the hard way
  20. I have been thinking about a new exhaust system lately. I prefer the two pipe standard setup for looks & sound. However when you factor in the cost of the new cans plus buying the x over seperately for several hundred more the Quat d starts to look pretty good. Plus I think the Quat D is probably lighter & easier to install. The sinking value of the dollar vs the euro is a main factor holding me back right now. Well that & I havent been working any overtime lol.
  21. I'd say to go for the Ohlins suspension Goose. Otherwise try to find the Lemans with the most aftermarket goodies. Usually its way cheaper to buy a bike that already has the goodies already attached. If you buy one with around or over 10k miles most of the issues will probably have already been sorted out. Dont be afraid of a Guzzi with some extra miles on it.
  22. I too went for a ride tonight & it was as good as it gets. The temperatures have cooled down to the upper 60's here in Ohio tonight & that engine was just made for cool evening rides. No pops, backfires, or anything else it has been doing in the extreme heat lately.
  23. Theres a comparison of the multistrada & the v strom in this months cycle world. Dont read it if you're a Duck fan lol. OtOh they had a wonderful write up of the new Norge
  24. Has anyone tried that swingarm thats on the site? I dont see any prices with the stuff either.
