I have the beginnings of plans to head that way in Aug. Wondering if it's as spectacular as The Gaspe.. If not maybe do the Gaspe again...maybe just stay drunk in Quebec and chase the little French girls around... Anyone have pics?

"concentrating on ALL the CHEAP and EASY stuff first! wink.gif" Thats 99% of what we see here..ininit? Just a small handful of goofy little gremlins. This forum is the best cure. Worth 3 tool boxes and gas spectrometer. Don't start no drama and there wont be no drama. Get the good Chinese GEI relays from Dan...not the Siemmens, not the Bosh.. the cheap Chinese ones. $15 for a handful.... See Orangeokies' rules to live by.

Clonking noise from down under (not Australia)
Ouiji Veck replied to Guzzi2Go's topic in Technical Topics
Wheel bearings are very suspect on these things. Have a buddy haul it over on it's kick stand, get the back wheel off the ground and grab the back tire with both hands firmly and give it a good side to side shake. Don't wait till your 200mi from home like me when I noticed mine "clonking". If thats the case you'll want to chase down the "short spacer" thread. Seems there's a short spacer in the rear hub that likes bearings for lunch on some V11s. Good luck -

Yea...they're very old school Guzzi. Next time your there give 'em a little nudge towards this forum... I don't even know if they know what a "forum" is. There's a lot of history there. http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/halloffame...page.asp?id=222 My bike is half ripped apart for a 30K mi freshing ...maybe see ya in the spring. -
I guarantee I'll be riding a lot more. Not only will my bike be all fresh but I've unburdened myself of the ol' ball and chain. Already locked into W.Va/ Deals Gap big Guzzi rally and a Michigan trip... It was 23deg. here today...I've got about 4-5 weeks to get the bike right then we'll be over 40 every day...I'll be hard to find on the week ends... @ 30K mi I guess I should check the swingarm bearings too ... hmmm... it's starting to look like "just pull the motor" time. I'll see what I think after I pull the plastic and tank off....get a look @ whats involved with the hoses and wires.
-
Thats what I was thinkin'...just let it turn to tar and seal itself. I've put 2000mi on it since I THOUGHT I would be putting it away. I did clean all the areas I thought were suspect before I rolled her in flour. I just wanted to get some idea what it might be while I could still run it/ before disassembly. Removing the T case cover looks like no fun seein' how it's an engine mount so I was praying it was one of the penetrations seals or oil line. Breather hose...? God usually has more fun with me than that..but a good call. I'll be rattling your cage when I pull those forks apart...looking forward to new springs and a new Willlllburs.
-
Well I finally got heat in the garage, cleaned it up and sorted out the tools. I plan to replace the my leaky Sucks shock with a Willlburs and put some new fork springs in....address the headlight and free up juice for bar heat... get the charging light to stay off...service the drive train...etc..etc...etc.. But first...chase my oily ooze down. I thought I'd be at it a lot sooner but it was an unbelievable winter so I let her oooze. And ooze she did. Can it possibly be just from the chain tower seam? The oil line on top and other penetrations look fine. Whadya think? Chasing a leak How do I get these pics in order? Oh well...

Is there an echo in here? I love everything about the Ducatis ..especially the bone-y looking trellis frame...the only thing I prefer on my LeMans is the power band...and I prefer it a LOT! I had more than a few 400 mi days on my SS but it gets tiresome having your fangs out ALL the time. The Guzzi you can Beemer around on or Duc around on...There's no such option on the Ducati. It's ALWAYS barking and snarrling... Down boy! Down! Which is fine for a Sat. afternoon with the hooligans but thats only 25% of my riding. Not much room for a sleeping bag or a tent either... let alone beer and fire wood.... But!! When I have $$$ for Xtra bikes I'll have one of the Duc classics..
-
Yea...thanks for that. Let's pony up and make an indi feature film... So wonderful.....so poignant....

Thanks G. A couple of Guinesses and I get down right misty eyed sloppy about riding the Guzzi.

Hi Firecracker...you'll never regret going Guzzi...if you really love motorcycling. I've been an avid rider for over 35yrs. Even spent 10 yrs. racing everything from MX to RR to ice racing. To this day all I want to do is ride...camp ..ride I rode mostly performance inlines after teething on British twins in the 70s. I got my first Guzzi 6 yrs. ago....a 1980 1000SP ...after a season on that I was hooked. It took me another 5 years to land my V11 LeMans..after a 3 year affair with a lovely Ducati. My 02 LeMans is a little quirky but nothing serious. I went down the forum here and headed all the little gremlins off @ the pass. 27,000 mi and I've never been stranded. (well once, close to home...wheel bearing.) None of that matters. The thrill and satisfaction of a Guzzi just makes everything else "white bread". I think the aforementioned oil filter problem is a rare occasion. I've never thought twice about it but will pay extra attention when spinning a new one on. There's people on this forum that are the quintesential Guzzi Gurus.... Greg Field of Moto International ..Seattle....he has the inside skinny on the oil filter deal.... Pete Roper... Guzzi Proffesor and sit down comedian. AU ...down your way Todd Haven...Dr. of all things Guzzi...MPH down in Texas.. And a number of others who I am embarrased to leave out because of thier incredible contribution to this board, it's menbers and the fantastic bikes we ride and love. Get thee hence and log on 100km on one and let the big grin come. As much fun as Ducs, and Ks, and Rs and CBRs are, the Guzzi is just much more so. Thunder and grace.

Winterizing my Guzzi
Ouiji Veck replied to Ouiji Veck's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
I get my gas at a gas station. Driving down the road, need gas, there's a station. pull in. fuel up. It likes 93 or 91 oct. Pings a little on 89...but.. I'd be more apt to put 2 head gaskets in to reduce compression so my Guzzi would run on 87 Oct. than put AV gas in. I think it's a tractor/ ditch pump ...and I love that. -
Ahoy heathens of the north....... Knowing the importance of keeping the 93 octane from becoming varnish in the injectors and the dry cell from becoming a boat anchor I jumped on the LeMans for a quick run around the block. @ 31 degrees I headed out to the oposite side of town but the Guzzi had differnt ideas and headed for Rt. 49 and up to 2 Brothers. Managed to put 48mi on and drain some petrol out of the tank for my long put off winter maintenance. (the guzzi shut off petcock only being a petrol "slow down" petcock) Stoped in @ 2 brothers for a Harpoon and a Jamesons and the lovely company of miss Tricia who made the delightful Freudian slip of saying "babysitting...I mean bartending... on Sat night" Big Laughs..... Gleefully snatching gears and carving corners on the way home (as well as I thought 30deg. pavement would allow,) I, for the 200th time, reflected upon.....what is it? Why am I out here trying to use some sixth sence to see around the next corner,.. is there's any ice there.? Then there is no ice...there's only shake, rattle and roll. Buddha found enlightenment under the banyon tree...he didn't stop and say "why do I find enlightenment here under this stupid tree?" Thats the difference between Buddah and me I guess...he's always just around the next corner.

Doug I ride out of Monson with 8-9 guys I've ridden with since highschool. We do 5 or six Vt. / Nh.rally week ends a year and usually a 4-5 Kmi Big trip every year. Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Tenn, Va. All grown ups that can ride safe but still tear it up. There's a 20 yr. old Guzzi rally thats been going on @ Partridge hollow in Sept. too.

Doug...I have a set of stock pipes here in Mystic (02 LeMans) I doubt there are any here that have trucked more bikes than Doug...which begs the question.. What the heck happened to the Ancaras?

Very interesting. If I ever did go for something else it would be a Duc.. and I'm often tempted by the STs...but having a venerable SS for 3 yrs. I know what your saying. I like the Ducs for thier fit and finish. They are a tinker toy to work on once past the learning curve but are built to be ON all the time. It's tiresome. I was thinking the ST or DS would be different but your message comes thru loud and clear. I second the "gear it down" vote. Go up a couple of teeth in the back. You shouldn't need a PCIII. The Ducs are abFab but always foaming at the mouth. 4000 rpms is mandatory. Like I said "tiresome" Thanks for reminding me. I love my LeMans

Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner....... I belive it's the old shit/ shineola syndrome you've found yourself on the upside of. God bless those wannaBe's that don't know what the F' they want. Good thing I didn't come accross that deal. I woulda had to buy a huge shoe horn to get it into the garage with.. but I couldn't let it go by. Good on you. Where's the bags?
