Yup The 900ss wont run if the temp gets down much below the low 40s f depending on the humidity. The carbs are about a foot from the heads (talk about your velocity stacks!) and they freeze up while under way. Stop for a few minutes and the heat from the engine thaws 'em out. Luckily there's a forum as good as this one for the 900ss (thanks Mr. Japp) and I knew what it was the first time it happened. A lttle dry gas and problem solved. Not that I really think this is the problem here. Just thought I'd throw it out there because the symptoms sounded so familliar. My V11 loves the cold (unlike myself) and I've not heard of carb icing on one. Then again if your getting crappy fuel it could be the deal. Hope you get it sorted out.i

Sounds just like vapor lock....but it's cold. Temp sensor ?? Maybe try some dry gas? I need it in the Duc in the cold.

I get a sound that sounds exactly like a dry leaf in a car heater fan....very internitently and only when rolling around a parking lot......(at least thats the only time I can hear it) exhaust gasket? ( thought I'd get in on playing name that sound)

Finally the week end to put old man winter in his grave and doing the pre flight walk around Fri. night I find my throttle cable pretty far gone down by the TB cam. Rats! ...Ok ...looks like it can make the 45 minute ride to the shop...I could be there by nine..throw it on there...though it looks like I'll have to remove the tank. OOOoops Wait a minute...it's a Guzzi...I'll have to call first...get there by ten. They must have a cable for an 02 in stock....hmmm...maybe not. Long look @ the Duc that hasn't been started since July. I'll sleep on it..Up and in the Garage @ 6:30. Better put a little charge on the Duc battery...just in case...do a pre flight. Tires real low...chain nothcy...needs oil. Compressor needs a fitting...go to wall mart for compressor fitting and give the battery rack a look...hope against hope...run into a rider friend who says "Bennys right next door has lots of Bike batteries...got one for mine there." Oh well..it's right next door...Wow...they have one listed for the Duc! Ok...I'm in buisness...WRONG! Take the hoplessly wrong battery back to Bennies...Run back home , Call shop for Guzzi throttle cable. "We don't keep any Guzzi parts in stock...but I can BACK ORDER it for you" (This with new ones on the floor!) Was he being funny? I wasn't laughing.. OK... back to the Duc. I've been waiting all winter for today. 75 mi to meet my good riding buddies and watch the Daytona 200. Duc is going no where...battery IS kaput... Considering battery box remodeling...I'm riding today dam it! Back to Bennys with measuring tape....no friggin' way.... Back home...10:30. Standing in my garage with 3 motorcycles muttering "What the F@#$!" Then a light comes shining in on my Guzzi....I rip the seat off...measuring tape in hand... FoooooBahhhhh....yip yip yip...150 back road miles on my good little Duc. Now...where to get a cable ......and maybe I better not sell the Duc.

I think the Nero is the best looking bike in the world With the pipes and the red that one is beautiful My Champagne will be black one day...will never have high pipes though....she's loaded with camping gear half the time.

Well that sucks flat out. Hope you gave him the 2yr old on a tricycle guilt trip. God...my ears are turnin' red just thinkin' about it. Congrats for maintaining your composure.... My Guzzi My Guzzi....go run over an HD for Gods sake! There's plenty of them around.

Yup. "It's 98% rider!!!" You learn that the first few months of racing. Imagine what you learn racing every week end for 10 yrs. Mostly ya learn to quit trying to prove anything, just go out and have a good time It's all for fun. (unless your getting paid )

Ha! I can't be retrained.... The first thing we used to do to our brand new..I mean ZERO miles.. MX bikes was rip the air box/ filter out and toss 'em...bring the main needle up a click or 2....change the fork oil...cut the bars... What i THINK I'm compromising is milage for traction...(ain't we all) Yea...I believe the experts...but get two of 'em togeather and there's gonna be a fight! I'm always fighting with my tire pressure....where does it go? I get real antsy on a trip...loaded with luggage...the more I check it..the more it changes. God I have a lot of fun though. Self deprecating humor goes a long way with me.

Conti road attacks call for higher PSI for whatever reason... I was running mine @ 40...compromiseing.. They were holding up well....but then I got a sick valve...who knows how many milesI ran it low one of the last times I was out......Dammm! The never ending struggle for tire life and performance goes on.....and on..........

Spent the whole day shooting and editing the significant others Public Access TV show. She wins awards and has lots of fans. Good experiance for when I start my "Euro-Trash" motorcycle show. ( I intend to spend plenty of time dis-ing choppers) The technology is incredible and the only limit is your imagination. Looks like MC season starts next week...yea yea yea yea...

Hi Geno Welcome to the fold. Wait till you get on those roads and get that Guzzi in it's natual grove...swooping, deft, wondeful feel and power. Top end speed and frantic wanking become passe... Your gonna really dig it

Hmmm.. I've done some considerable stand scraping on my LeMans. Always thought it wuz jolly good fun. Are you saying you were on the stand so hard the back tire was getting light...sliding? ( that would be jolly good fun too...as long as it was predictable and controlable ) I go out intententionally looking for corners fast and tight and remote enough to drag my stand...Maybe I should find a new hobby. Anyone else have near get-offs playing this way? Wondering if it was a quick Jab when you transitioned or if it was in the middle of a long scraaaaaape?

jeeeeeeezzz You guys come waltzin' in here with your new Coppa Italias....and Nero Corsas,,,Sheesh Where's that green emoticon Japp? errr....I mean ...welcome...be prepared to fall in love with a motorcycle. There's a bunch of little niggles to check out...just hang around this board... My handle bars are filled with bird shot or buck shot according to the previous owner. Probably helps...never felt it was an issue. Good carb balance helps too I'm shure. How to do anything and everything is right here somewhere and lots of friendly assistance...lots of laughs too. All we need now is spring!

AhhHa Though I've read it a few times it does my heart good To see others find screwing the manhole cover on a bit spooky... The instant I saw those threads I thought.."ooh boy..careful with those delicate aluminum folicles" After about 5 nano seconds of attempting to get the threads started the first time I layed right down under the bike to get real familliar with the realestate. Now it's no problem except for how tight. I go with TIGHT! The proper torque being.... get it pretty tight....then imagine it comming off... then tighten it...(after your balls return to thier normal residence)

I wax my poetry with Guiness It's not just a great soft drink.

Ha! Thats the problem when you love the road more than the parking lot @ the hangout. We wear the mud of a 3000mi trip like a badge of honor just dying for an infidel to fall into the trap. "Ever wash that thing?" My cleaning routine is usually a frantic rush before the traditional week end ride. Luckily the LeMans is a matter of a quick spray, wipe, armourall ...I like my seat slippery 'cause I move around on it. and simple green on the greasey parts and black engine paint. 20-30minutes. It gets extra attention before a rally or long trip. 6-7 times a year.

Sounds like they didn't get much advertising $$$ from Guzzi. Screw them.. I've ridden 'em all and have a beautiful 900ss in my garage. It's a kids bike. The V11 is for grownups. There isn't a single bike I'd rather have. It's all an illusion and a fashion show. The king has no clothes. My LeMans is the motorcyleiest motorcycle I've ever motorcycled. It makes my heart smile. Where's that in the stats?

I've got an 02 LeMans myself..Chmpagne It's my favcrite bike in 35yrs of riding. The 03 seems to have less bugs. according to the reading I've done here in a year, but I've really had no trouble with mine. "Cept the Sachs shock going away on me...dried seals...fresh oil and it was cured. It's a deep soulful thrill it delivers. Big fat power, beutiful note..very confident handling. Walking @ 80...purring

There is Hope.. Good luck @ Daytona MG Cupertino, CA – February 15, 2006 - Ducati, the Italian motorcycle company world famous for crafting high-performance race, street, and touring bikes, announced a record-breaking start to 2006, posting an 80-percent sales increase for the month of January. The strong sales numbers generated by Ducati North America are a bright spot for the global motorcycle manufacturer, Ducati Motor Holding, with the North American subsidiary continuing to find success. This comes from the introduction of the retro-inspired SportClassic line-up and the new Monster S2R 1000. This summer they will debut their most powerful naked bike ever, the highly anticipated Monster S4Rs. LINK to complete article http://www.motorcycledaily.com/021606pressrelease5.htm

Once a millenium ago my Chevy Nomad wouldn't fire up. I was late for work of course.... Suspected it wasn't getting enough juice to the starter so I jacked up the front end enough to crawl under with jumper cables... stuck 'em on the starter...she fired right up....in REVERSE... front wheel went over my shoulder and I came up jumper cabel in hand still connected to the battery...Held onto the cables like a bridle as the nomad backed into my neighbors 65 Impala repeatedly....bam bam bam...

Hey vratbastard... Sounds like your diggin' your Guzzi...glad to hear it. With a name like vratbastard I knew you would. Wait till ya get the pipes breathin' ....FooBahhh

Leave it to you guys. When I needed to rebuild the Brembos on my 900ss I was told in a lot of places (including the great yahoo Ducati forum) that Brembo had put the NIX on seal kits due to our wonderful judicial system. (rumor was... someone put in a kit incorrectly..crashed...blamed Brembo.. won the suit. You know the deal) I had even went to Yoyodyne....Finally got heplped out by BMC in Laconia New Hampster...great Ducati people...who sent me a set up for a 996 that worked but wasn't the same kit. Here some one asks and BAM! Ol' TX comes through... Glad to see we can get our hands on kits....thought the calipers were starting to look cheap @ $70.00... I've book marked that Yoyodyne page and am sending it on over to the Ducati forum. This place ROCKS!
