Almost right. If the regulator has a bad ground, then the regulator output voltage may rise out of limits because any resistance to ground establishes a regulator case reference voltage that isn't actually ground. This isn't much of a problem on any Guzzis where the regulator is solidly bolted to the frame such as the V11 Sport series. On the Sport 1100i's/Daytona RS's where the regulator was mounted on the fairing sub-frame it is a legitimate concern.

Keep the Sporti, buy a Norge to go with it (I did). They're worlds different yet oddly similar. The Sporti is a bit more elemental whereas the Norge is pretty refined. I don't think a 1200s would be a good substitute for either one, either singly or together.

I visited Ireland last year. 5 wonderful days. Waterford in the south, Letterkinney in the north. We did drive(?) through Dublin though. Murderous traffic! I sure hope the new dealer is well to the outskirts of the city. Driving any kind of bike in Dublin would be tantamount to suicide. If there was anywhere in the world outside of the USA I'd want to live, the south end of Ireland tops the list.

That's slightly strange unless other things also went away at the same time. Still... The tach on my Sport 1100i acted up at about 23,000 miles. Though the bike runs crappy right now (timing chain probably), it's not the relays. At 58,000 miles, the original relays are still in there. Apparently, the only thing you can say about Guzzi problems is that they're consistently inconsistent. The only reason that I originally suspected the grounding studs was that the light in the tach wavered a bunch and the ground return for the light is definitely the case, regardless of how the internals of the tach work. Fixing the light fixed the tach as well. As I said, consistently inconsistent. Don'tcha just love Guzzis?

This tach works on a pulse from the ECU. I believe that it will not work hooked across the coil, the older non-EFI bikes had tachs that worked that way. Cliff Jeffries provides a basic description at How My16M works.

You have to heat the bolt heads with a heat gun or something long enough to loosen the locktite before you try to remove the bolts. Kind of late now, but it may still work if you slot the bolt heads with a Dremel cutting disk. I just buy Ducati rotor bolts which are hex heads to replace the silly stock MG ones.

I'm certainly glad you weren't seriously injured. It's too bad that the spare set of rims I have are for an earlier sport, the rear wheel is an inch narrower than the LeMans.

I went out and rode a quick 166 miles on the Norge this afternoon. Oklahoma isn't quite as flat as Kansas but I really did hope I'd find a road that would get me some lean angle. No such luck. When I got back to town, I turned onto a side street at 35 mph, hit a bump and the centerstand actually touched the pavement! Boring. Yawn. Looks like I'm going to have to start trekking the 200 miles or so to the Oklahoma/Arkansas border area and on into Arkansas to get any good riding.

The cheapo flasher bulb in a string of Christmas tree lights has exactly the same mechanism as a typical automotive flasher - a bi-metallic element that opens and closes the circuit in response to a load in series with it.

Uh well, you see - it's a lovely watch, beautiful even externally, but inside it's just a watch. No light and no alarm The wrist band is Italian class weird and can't be made to fit my wrist, so it's kind of sloppy or too tight. It's a really nice watch, but kind of low on the everyday utility side of things so I seldom wear it. Tonight, my wife and I will celebrate our 28th anniversary and for that, the watch gets worn.

That's sure the truth! I went to Denmark in 1986 and the regular grade gas there was about two points higher in octane the highest premium in the USA! We have cruddy gas in the USA for sure. There's something like 22 different blends throughout the USA to accomodate different climates, altitudes and local environmental laws. California is the worst with their gas formulated to reduce emissions but getting a fair percentage fewer miles per gallon resulting in the more gas being burned to make up for it and the pollutants not really being reduced all that much. But for that "privilige", Californians get to pay an average of $.70 more per gallon than I do where I'm at now. California is weird, they've even managed to mandate a specific grade of milk such that milk costs about a dollar more per gallon than it's really worth. There's no knocking the great motorcycle rides in that state, food, fabulous parks and scenery nor the mild weather, but nearly everything else in the great state of California sucks massively.

True enough maybe, but your spotlights aren't OEM, without them the Eldo would probably just be very good. The Norge really lights up the countryside and the beam pattern is excellent - it doesn't need any additional lighting. Better than "Tron", it's more like "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". "The sun came up and it sang to me." And of course, a Guzzi sings when it's in its element, but the Norge has the "sun" as well. MI is breaking in that red Norge for Matt, take it out some night where you can light up the countryside on high beam and see what I mean.

You're dead wrong there mate. This is one of the nicest watches I've ever owned, nicer even than some of the Accutron watches I've had in the distant past. It has a massive polished stainless steel case with the Moto Guzzi eagle etched on the back as well as the raised eagle and lettering on the face. It's still a perfectly common electronic watch inside, but the case and band are first rate. When I say massive though, I'm not kidding. It must weigh nearly a half pound. And it's huge. I only wear it on special occasions like my anniversary which oddly enough, is today, which is why I even have it out of its fancy metal box with the Moto Guzzi logoed lid.

I'm sort of partial to this factory authorized item - but it's no longer available. About 170 Euros when you could get them.
