Round about nowhere*
callison replied to belfastguzzi's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Isn't that near Roswell, New Mexico? -
It's a nice bag although I really wished it opened from the rear rather than the front. A bit awkward to have stuff blow out when you're on the move and you're trying to re-position your map or grab something out of it.

28 °F / -2 °C Overcast Nowcast as of 10:00 am CST on January 12, 2007 Early stages of ice storm underway... We're supposed to have as much as 2" of ice in the next 36 hours. I won't even take the Ural out in this stuff!

Bags & Bike They're on there somewhere, in the catalog probably.

Expense is relative. Once you've paid the tab for a mercury spill when you've upset your CarbStix, a Twin Max will seem like a really good idea. There's nothing wrong with the water manometer either except that you can't stick it in your tank bag and take it with you.

Useful tools and supplies for Guzzi
callison replied to dhansen's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
I'm sure this will date me but back when I was taking electronics in junior college, the instructor was bemoaning the fact that there was no "dotted chalk" for outlining portions of diagrams drawn on the chalk board. During a short break, I went up to the board and grabbed one of the longer pieces of chalk and by holding it by the back end only, I could get it to chatter on the board and make a dotted line. Once I started that, about 3 other guys joined me and in 5 short minutes, we had completely covered the board in dotted lines. The instructer returned and nearly went nuts. "How did you do all that in only 5 minutes?" We showed him and were thanked duly - after cleaning the board. I don't recall that it helped my grades any though. Dry markers just don't have that facility. Another useful technique lost to progress. Sigh... -
The fork tubes on my Sport 1100i also got scored lightly because I didn't change the fork fluid in 58,000 miles. Fortunately, the scores weren't so deep that I couldn't have the tubes turned down in a lathe by a machine shop and then all of the seals replaced and so forth. It still cost me $500 for the work. At that, I did the removal of the tubes from the bike and took them to Moto Italiano to get the work done. That saved some on the cost but I know longer take it for granted that fork oil doesn't get contaminated.

Okay, here's why: LN Engineering - Oil - updated 12.13.2006 Happy reading guys.

Fascinating thread, made all the more so since I've never heard of durometers, Shore scales and so forth. When my case of oil finally arrives (Agip 10w60 4T Racing), I'm going to be changing the oil in my Norge. I'll have to have to look to see if there's enough space in the external filter recess on the pan for a hose clamp around the filter. Given that there may be nothing for the hose clamp to lodge against, it may be a case of using the hose clamp (if it fits) to secure a piece of safety wire and drill a small hole in a sump fin to run the safety wire through. At least with the external filter, if it lets go, you'll know real quick because it's going to be going to directly onto the rear tire - with possibly fatal results. After reading this thread, it behooves me to aim for the highest level of installation standards or security that I can manage.

Really Nice!!! Merry Christmas.

I'll go with the loose oil line. It's happened to me with the same symptoms you describe.

Mine broke in 2003 while I was on my way up to Mt. Vernon. I had to move the screw up to the slot in the bracket. It's been there ever since. Looks hokey, works okay.
-
Not surprising. A Norge is just a Breva 1100 with a fairing and an improved engine.

46˚F and raining. Norge dry in the garage.

What ever you do DON'T MENTION THE ASHES
callison replied to Morris Sod's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
If the post were from the northern hemisphere I'd say it was a serious case of cabin fever. But that isn't the case. -
scroll to bottom B&B Bags and Bike Be sure to download the catalog (.pdf format), there's a bunch of stuff in there.

Sounds like you've bumped the compression but nothing else. I wouldn't expect a gigantic change as a result. Other, more experienced engine types will jump in soon to tell me I'm wrong...

That's the hardest I've laughed in days! -
Todd, you better get a bike under that bag soon. It looks a little forlorn just sitting there all dressed up with no place to go and no way to get there!
-
That would be great Bill, but I'm 497 miles to the north and although I'll be coming down that way just after Christmas, it will be in the car with family. Let's plan a Norge rally for sometime next year.

Welcome to Norge, Oklahoma - Norge ride report
callison replied to callison's topic in Travel & dealers
Well, maybe, but we'll probably loose a few Norges while they're looking for the place. There are no signs in Chickasha that even tell you where that highway is. It's really one of those "Oh, I've never heard of that. Ask Seth, he kin tell'ya. - (Seth:) Yup, you just go out that there road (Grand/92) and head west a bit until you see a store on the corner. Thet oughter be 29th. Yew jest turn left and follow it a spell. Don't blink now, 'cause you'll miss Norge entirely!" They weren't kidding. If that town (population in the 2000 census: 82) even has a town council I'd be surprised. If they have a park, I'll be even more surprised. You never know though, hosting a rally would give them some PR and a pin on the map so to speak. FWIW, the last Oklahoma rally was not a rally, but rather a campout as rallies engender huge insurance tabs whereas campouts require none. Camping in Norge, Oklahoma though, would probably entail pitching your tent in somebody's yard. Norge would be good local trip from the Wichita Mts where there are good campgrounds and scenery. 50 miles. Please don't look up the Wichita Mts. and remark about how insignificant they are compared to the mountains of the west. I know that, you know that, but the locals just think the world of them and I wouldn't want to crimp they're enjoyment of one of the few noteworthy geological features of the state. -
