To reiterate this same posting on the GuzziTech.com forum What Greg said. Having gone the through the agony of rebuilding one of these after an accident I can tell you that it simply is not worth the trouble. The transmission cases alone run about $618. If the transmission case has cracks, there is a high probability that the front engine mounts on the timing chest are cracked. If you see any cracks up front, run - don't walk - away from that bike. If you're still interested in the bike after that, yank the tank and look very, very carefully at the spine. Any bends, wrinkles or twists in the metal at all, and it's toast. I wouldn't give a plugged nickel for having it straightened either although it has been done.

I would highly suggest taking 89A south out of Flagstaff and experiencing Oak Creek Canyon and Sedona. Not to be missed. Really. Then backtrack back up the way you came back to Flagstaff and continue your trip.

I missed about a year and a half of riding FrankenSport while putting it back together and another 6 months trying to find out why the ECU fuse would blow when the throttle was whacked open. I never did find out why, just that changing the 5A fuse to a 7.5A one seems to have cured a marginally higher thn normal current draw when the ignition, fuel pump and anything else involved suddenly got tasked with more work to do. That's all time I wish I had back, but I don't. It's worse for the Sport 1100i. 200 miles in nearly 4 years. I'm going to get it running, really I am, but at this point, I may just transplant a V11 Sport engine into it along with wiring and use the spare engine for screwing around with. At the moment, I'd trade all of my Guzzi's for a Griso or a good down payment on a Norge.

Hey Dave, why not remove the starter lead for a day and see if there's still a drain. It's simple enough to do (cheap too!). Perhaps the starter solenoid is the culprit.

With a little luck, we've just gone the B&B route out in the county. Thanks guys, I couldn't have done it without your assistance. Of course, it could all still fall through and I'll have to pursue a booking again but at least now I have a bunch of bookmarks to assist.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a reasonably inexpensive (read cheap) hotel in or around the Dublin are of Ireland for early June? I need names, web site or whatever is available. Thanks Carl Allison, soon to be visiting the UK with 4 other family members in tow.

Spark plug wires. Check 'em to make certain they're still seated. The bike was ruuning before and probably has only been moved. The only thing external that can affect one cylinder specifically are the spark plug wires. After that, should that not be the problem, report back and we'll throw our collective intelligence at it.

Lower the clip-ons, add an Air Hawk, some Rok straps and Teknic bags for your gear, a pair of ear plugs and hit the road! Best I ever did on mine in one day was about 700 miles. Nice enough trip.

That couldn't be any worse than the trip I did today. Left home at 2:33 AM, 335 miles and 6:45 hours later, i dropped the Ural off at the dealer. Then I turned around and went home. Different route. 305 miles and just under six hours. Got home at just 3 minutes after 3 PM. I've done drives like this on the V11 Sport too, but I had an Air Hawk cushion. I should've used it today in the truck...

The trip planning is a little tight at the end, we have to get my daughter-in-law back by Sunday night so she can go back to work Monday morning. -

We'll be arriving in Scotland on the ferry at bit after noon on the 15th of June. Since I'm notoriously thrifty (read cheap), I'm wondering if there are any forum members in the Glasgow or Edinburgh areas that would be willing (or crazy enough) to put 5 Yanks up for the night. We would like to see more of Scotland than just the road from Cairnryan to the English border. Also, how long does it take to drive from either Glasgow or Edinburgh to the Cambridge area of England?

That would be great but my daughter in law has to be back at work early Monday morning and diverting further north might not be the hot ticket. I suppose it depends upon the roads from Glasgow or Edingurgh southwards to the Cambridge area of England. How long would that trip take? For that matter, how long does it take from Cairnryan to Glasgow?

Pin #17 Dave? I think I'd be looking at the bottom of the ECU relay socket to see if terminals 30, 87 or 87A are bridged to another pin by something or pop the ECU relay out in case it's the culprit. After I added some Fiamm horns to my Sport 1100i, the horn relay got water into it and after a while, the insides corroded enough to make the water real conductive. That drained the battery. Then I jump started the bike. That fried the regulator. I learned something that day...

Hi Steve, my son is stationed at Lakenheath. It looks like I'll just barely miss the Irish Guzzi rally. Not for lack of timing, we'll get there on the ferry the morning of the 10th. It's too far southward though considering that we'll be heading north to the north west part of Ireland and that will take most of the day. Someone in Scotland wants to put 5 American tourists up for a night either in Glasgow or the southern part of the country. Edinburgh is probably too far to consider. The ferry ticket just about busted my budget. I'm going to have to go to work to be able to afford being retired. My son and I will be at Haywards the 24th. Unknown as to whether my daughter and wife would go as it's just another motorcycle shop to them. Are there any interesting shops in the immediate vicinity of Haywards that the females of the clan could go shopping at? Wow. Less than three weeks now. I really, really want to see a Norge if they're on the showroom floor.

This is why I now have a 2005 Ural Patrol instead of a Breva 1100. I had the money, but the USA deliveries slipped so many times that the money eventually burned a hole in my pocket. I'll never know if I made the best decision or not but at least the Ural won't fall over on the @#$^%(* gravel road to my house.

We already know the tank flexes. Steel plates molded into the plastic wouldn't, so you'd get cracks. If the plates were mounted inside the tank, you'd have a tank that's even more expensive to mold and assemble than the one we've got. In as much as the stock MG bag works really well, I'd just say stick with that. I love my MG bag, but I truly wish it zipped open across the back rather than the front as it is possible to forget to zip it shut, take off and have it blow completely open. The map pocket as well would be easier to use if it velcroed down one side of it's complete length rather than a flap at the very front edge. I think the unzip, flip and gas design is really great, so much so that I modified the Marsee bag I have on my California to operate the same way.

Well, it's not available yet - maybe in August or September. Somewhere in the ballbark of $400 too as it is an entirely new design with custom housing and more functions etc. Details are somewhat sparse but eventually, we'll find out more.

The email for the tool was a virus for the starter motor... Seriously, the starter motors can be rebuilt, but it's hardly worth the effort unless it's just new brushes or a housing with new magnets. Yours sounds a whole bunch worse. Hopefully you're still under warranty.

I neglected the WP's on my 97 Sport 1100i for 58,000 mlles. The rebuild charge was a tad over $500. I was lucky I didn't have to have the fork tubes re-chromed as they weren't so bad that they couldn't be turned down in a lathe. Now... is there anybody that thinks it isn't necessary to take care of fork oil on the regularly scheduled interval?
