WIH is "standard" about Whitworth?

I just emailed my son an told him to leave the 24th open. This all may just work out. I'll be sure to wave as well Mike.

I've got an invite to spend a few days in Letterkenny, Ireland from a displaced U.S. Guzzisti that's been there for 5 months. He'd like to stay, his wife wants to go back to the USA. Ah, the bliss of marital life... At any rate, the whole lot of us (4 or 5 depending upon whether the daughter in law can get time off from her new job) are going to try and circle through Wales, Ireland, Scotland and then back to Soham. There ought to be a few chances in that mix to meet some people although I don't know about hitting the rally dates. We don't actually have an itinerary yet, but as it shapes up, I'll keep you all posted. My son has internet, there won't be any major disconnect.

I've got a set of stock forks if you're interested. They used to be Mike Stewarts and he had them re-valved. He'd have to chime in an tell you the specs and we'd have to dicker over what they're worth if you're interested.

My 97 Sporti backfired once during a ride and after that it wouldn't drop below 3000 rpm and just went a steady 55 mph. I pulled over and the right hand throttle body had blown completely out of the rubber mount.

We're having a family re-union next month in the U.K. My son is stationed at Lakenheath so the wife, daughter and I are going to spend June 7 - June 28th at his place with side trips to Ireland and anywhere else we can manage. The nearest Guzzi dealer to Soham where my son lives is Haywards of Cambridge. He'd like to get over there and see the new bikes and so would I. We'd like to be able to set it up to meet some of the local forum members too if anyone is available at some point during our trip. PM me for an exchange of information if you want and maybe we'll get to shake hands or hoist a brew next month.

I'll go along with what Martin said. If by "popping" the clutch, you mean pulling in the lever and the bike starts, then the problem is the neutral switch and commiserate with not being able to start, you will also not have a neutral light on the dash. Put simply, the bike thinks it is in gear and the starter is locked out. Mine does this very, very regularly. I just sit on the bike, put the sidestand up, pull in the clutch, start the bike and I'm good to go. You would have thought that with an entirely new gearbox on the V11 Sports that they would have made a neutral switch that worked. They didn't. That's so Italian. Alternatively, if everything looks like it ought to work, but the starter itself doesn't give so much as a peep, it would likley be the clutch switch. Two things there, the switch itself - and the wiring. Starting at the simplest point, put your head down by the clutch lever housing on the left handlebar and listen to the clutch handle as you pull it in. If you don't hear a "Click", then the microswitch needs to adjusted. If the "Click" is there, then you have to pull the tank and look for two wires in bullet connectors on the left side of the spine just aft of the left leading edge of the gas tank. Look for a black wire and a black/white wire going into two bullet connectors. Pull them apart and put them back together a few times to wipe any corrosion off of the contact surfaces and put everything back together. If you want to test your work before putting the tank back on, remove the seat and pull the connector off of the ECU. This will prevent the ECU from turning on the fuel pump while you have the tank disconnected. The starter circuit itself doesn't have any direct ECU interaction, so you can while away your merry day chasing down connector and relay gremlins without shooting gas all over the place or worrying about toasting the ECU.

Just... where??? did you find that photo?

I've got 1920 x 2300 and IE still says 23 pages whereas Safari, Netscape and FireFox all say 9 pages. I could say that IE is full of proprietary code designed mostly to make Microsoft oriented web sites incompatible with web standard browsers - but I won't.

23 pages in IE or 9 pages in a good browser such as FireFox or Netscape.

Strange Electrrical Problem - '00 V11 Sport
callison replied to jsciullo's topic in Technical Topics
Most of the stuff you mention comes off of the same supply except that the horn and headlights route through the left handlebar switch assembly. Try checking the left side hadlebar switch assembly connector to make sure that it is completely seated. -
Apparently, pages are defined by screen size. I have an Apple 23" Cinema Display and the page count for this thread is only 9.

If the the fork tubes were blue as well then we'd be poofters...

Now sittiing at the dealer 30 minutes from where my son is stationed at Lakenheath airbase in England. We're haviing a family reunion there next month so I guess I'll go and take some photos of the blue Griso there because dammit, we aren't getting them in the USA. I wonder if the Norge will get this color eventually

Too bad you're not going through Oklahoma. We're going to the UK for three weeks in June and you could have just borrowed my California. Oh well. Have a fun vacation over here while I'm over there.

Sure, just send her back over when you're done. I should be through poking holes in my ceiling by then...

Wow Pete, you went all out! I used vice grips. Really. I just let them grip inside of the toothed rim, not on the gear itself, and let the handles fetch up against the clutch housing mounting studs. Of course, I'm not what you would call a really good mechanic...

Sometimes it's nice to have a lot of junk parts... I just went out to my garage on a notion. The spine frames all have a couple of spots on the spine where large banjo bolts are use for fuel vapor returns, vents etc. I was wondering if that banjo bolt could be fitted underneath the fuel pressure regulator to allow access to the remaining fuel. In a word, no. The fuel pressure regulator doesn't have a long enough threaded portion to allow the inclusion of the rather great size of that banjo bolt. A thinner one might work, but it would have to be a custom piece. The fuel petcock - manual or electric - have the same problem. The fuel level sensor would work with a spacer to insure concentricity. The left side of the tank isn't where we would need the plumbing so that isn't useful information beyond the fact that it may be possible. This information might be useful in a different plumbing scheme. The Californias use an inline pressure regultor with a return line to the tank. That kind of regulator could be plumbed to the right side of the tank along with a fitting to pass over fuel to the left side. Another possible alternative would be to do away with the fuel level sensor, and plumb across as mentioned by Dave at the start of this thread. It really looks as if the petcock and the pressure regulator would be an interference fit though. If I knew where my spare V11 tank was out in the shed, I could find out which fittings can interchange where. One of these days I'm going to do that. Really. Maybe. (Edited late this evening. You know, I would've thought that I was typing all of this stuff correctly, but I keep finding mis-spellings because my eyes are not working well after two cataract surgeries. Apparently I can spell but cannot type.)

Sloshing the tank went out about the time the locking gas cap came in.

Since this is right in my neck of the woods, I'll look into it and see what I cn find out. Fuel Plus II

Mike didn't mention that I was riding my California while he was on his V11 Sport. Very different bikes, ECU's - the works. Mike also doesn't believe in carrying along a pair of vise grips just in case... You ask him, I ain't telling the story.
-
Compared to my 97 California, the V11 Sport is a friggin' lighthouse! I have to drive the California carefully at night lest putting on the brakes dims the headlight too much to see the road. I really, really, need to do the up-gauge and relay routine with that bike. Especially since I just wired it for a trailer and there will that much more current draw.
