  1. Well, you can. When I go WFO on my V11 Sport, the ECU fuse blows and WFO becomes WTF??? I did ride it to work and back once last week, but it's not a lot of fun when you have to gingerly apply throttle to avoid coasting to a stop.
  2. Okay. My bad. The $500 is for the winning bid. Somebody did exercise the "Buy it now" option last time this one came around and probably was a false bidder and the $500 requirement is the sellers protection against these kind of proceedings. If I had the money for an MGS01, would I buy it? Well, maybe. There are other things in life than just owning a beautiful piece of mechanical artwork or a particularly unique harsh riding difficult to register street bike. If I was going to go down the path of an extremely expensive (for me, never mind the HD lemmings that spring $30,000+ for a chromed "me too" bike), I would probably opt for a MV Augusta. But I've got to admit, I relish the idea. Whatinhell would I do with an MGS01 in Oklahoma though? The wife wouldn't let me keep it in the living room, the road to my house is 3900 feet of very rough gravel and the roads aren't particularly demanding in that region in terms of riding skills other than those of avoiding cars, deer and law enforcement officers. I can't afford a museum piece, pretty though it is. $28,000 dollars (USA not Canadian) is about right for here (California) I think. You might be able to find one a tad cheaper, but that would have been at the original purchase price and as these pass around in the current market where they are scarce, there will be some profiteering. There will never be so many that that won't occur either, so be prepared to see some weird prices posted for these eventually. I wish MG had a definitive plan for a 2V version at a (much) lower price.

  5. The only beer I've found in the USA that really has something going for it is the house Porter at the Independence Brew and Pub in Philadelphia. For bottled beer, I'll stick with the occasional Samual Adams.

  7. We had a guy here in Modesto take his green V11 Sport to Moto Italiano and they put a lot of scratches in it. He wasn't thrilled about that, so for the transmission rebuild, he sent it to Sacramento. That dealer really fried him so he made MGNA buy it back as a lemon.
  8. The first Honda Goldwing to enter the state of Hawaii in 1974 was promptly used for club road racing. It sported both street bars AND clip-on's! Quite a sight.
  9. MSG gives me the sh*ts. So I stay away from it. I used to drink a lot of diet Pepsi until the aspartame (Nutrasweet) poisoned me and I lost all the feeling from my waist down and most of my short term memory. Removing the nutrasweet from diet made that problem go away and since then, I've managed to stay away from sodas entirely. I only have 3 or 4 beers a year, so I should be safe with that. The only beer I ever had that was truly unhealthy was some Tiger beer when I was in Singapore. That stuff must have been 50% formaldehyde. One bottle and my eyes hurt, couldn't stand the light and I had a splitting headace. A real hangover would have been pleasant by contrast. There are so many things out there that just aren't quite what the body wants. Oh well, eat healthy and ride your Guzzi a lot. Best RX in the world.

  11. I don't even pay attention to the speedometer when checking the maximum speeds attained. I use a Sigma bicycle speedometer that's been carefully calibrated and then just recall the maximum speed when it's convenient to do so. To date, the best I've done on a bike is 134.1 on my Sport 1100i on a clear 1 mile stretch and 135 on the V11 Sport with bags. Neither time were the bikes up to their limit, I just reach a limit of my own before the bikes reach theirs. I did hit 131 on the V11 Sport when it was fully loaded for an eight day trip. These bikes are awesome at times.
  12. Back when the vapor lock thread was going full swing, I changed out my electric fuel petcock for the manual type when the electric one quit working. The electric one has an angle on the hose fitting of about 45 degrees where the manual one is ninety degrees from the body. I didn't re-route the hose and that put a more severe bend on the fuel line coming out of the petcock. Everything was normal until the engine area warmed up when the fuel line warmed up and softened a bit, then the fuel line collapsed at the additional bend and cut off the fuel. I re-routed the fuel line to avoid the kinking area and everthing was fine. Eventually, I re-built the electric petcock and returned to the original configuration.

  14. I wouldn't stress out over it. If it happens, it won't be until you have a fairly large amount of miles. Granted, it really shouldn't happen at all, but perhaps by the time your bike was manufactured, 5 years after mine, the materials etc had improved and it won't happen at all. i.e. Go ride.
  15. The specs say the model year ends at 1995. Uncertain if that is just BMW's (probably) or includes MG's too. More information required. Sure as heck would be nice to have that much current available though.
  16. You need to be injecting grease into the zerk fittings on the Cardan joints. Every 1500 miles or so (according to the owners manual) if you're doing a lot of high speed riding, less often if you putter around like I do. The 15,000 mile thing is something the lawyers came up with after a few drive shafts on the early Daytonas came apart. They didn't have the zerk fitting on those, so they were a disaster waiting to happen. I talked to one guy that had the driveshaft fail on his Daytona at over a 100 mph and he spent a fair amount of time in the hospital with some pretty severe injuries. MG doesn't want that to occur again so they've chosen to be extremely conservative on the maintenance intervals.
  17. £14k works out to $26,685, which I think is below what the MGS01 is listed for here. So the price seems to be right. It's just really expensive. For that kind of money, an MV 1000 F4 might be a better choice for a street bike.

  20. I toured the west coast and did 3000+ miles in 8 days on my V11 Sport. No windscreen. Enjoyed nearly every minute - except torrential rain in Tacoma Washington. Touring on the V11 Sport is a different kind of thing, but it can be done. Never got over 131 mph with the bike fully loaded though.

  22. So, let me get this straight. Whenever the pump is in the circuit, the coils etc don't work. There isn't much on that circuit. The injectors, the coils and the pump. Pump not connected - everything works. Pump connected - nothing works. So it has to be the pump, but the pump sounds like it is pressurizing normally. Was the pump energized while it (the tank) was off of the bike and at that point it sounded normal? Speculating for the moment that while off of the bike, the pump was hooked up with the correct polarity and it worked normally, then perhaps the connector for the pump at the wiring harness side has the polarity reversed. The pump would try to turn but the impeller blades might bind in the reverse direction and then the pump motor would draw its maximum current which would probably be enough current to sag the voltage at the coils and injectors. Or, running in reverse, the pump is trying to draw suction on the very low volume of the injector feed lines and is basically stalling and again drawing maximum current. It doesn't matter that it was working before being brought to the shop if the mechanics start pulling connector pins trying to trace the problem and put them back in the wrong positions. Anything is possible.
  23. That's a 1N4007 diode, probably intended as a "steering" diode. Since it's on the ground side of the ECU relay coil, it won't be doing diddly squat to protect the ECU. But, referring to V11 Sport schematic and looking at the ECU relay coil on the +12V side, you will note that there is a connector in series with the ignition switch wire that energizes the ECU relay. Assuming that one would want to be able to test the ECU/EFI on a bike on the production line without using the key, then you would disconnect at the connector (#57) and energize the ECU relay directly using +12 volts or some piece of test equipment. I'm guessing the diode has something to do with that function as the injection relay, which is also hooked into the ECU wiring mess, has no diode, so it is safe to assume that the diode is not performing an anti-emf function in conjunction with the relay energizing or de-energizing or both relays would likely sport a diode.
  24. I think the V11 Sport cardan/shaft unit has a different number of splines than the Sport 1100's. You'd really want to check before bidding. I haven't heard of any V11 Sports with worn driveshafts and several of the Sport 1100i's are getting up towards the 100,000 mile mark without shaft replacements. The key here is good maintenance.
  25. Yeah. Some twit broad in her Ford Expedition parked it on top of my brand new Toyota Prius nearly 8 weeks ago. It's still in the shop. She gets to drive off, I get towed. Now I'm back to commuting on the California. It's okay until it rains hard, but I'd rather not be in a position where the bike is my only means of transportation.
