I don't see why not. With the airbox off, the remaining free volume is identical. I believe the throat diameters are even the same. Paul M??? You got a reading on this?

I like my Mistrals. Just enough deep throated boom to just barely chirp the car alarms without irritating the neighbors into showing up at my door with pitchforks and blazing torches. Tell your dealer to stuff it.

When Laverda announced the V6 endurance racer way back in the early '70's, I had high hopes it would become a street bike as well. It made one appearance at the Bol D'Or, failed to finish, and was shelved forever. Then, in 2001, the never-to-trusted head honcho of MGNA told me that not only would Aprilia revive the Laverda marque, they would release the V6 the following September. That never happened and there is not one single thing I've found appealing in any of the revived Laverda models. The V6 endurance racer is still one of the most visually appealing bikes I've ever seen or lusted after. I lament its passing unproduced.

No. That's NOT the first one. That's the re-designed one. The first one, the Mk1, was styled by Pininfarinag and believe me, it was frickin' hideous. .

It's probably the last one available because it's the first one that was built. That particular bike was undeniably the most hideous appearing motorcycle ever built.

I've put my transmission back in twice in the last month. The gas tank is pretty trivial after that exercise. It's pretty trivial anyway. If you want misery, change the fuel filter on a 97 California. It takes me FOUR hours! Same job takes 20 minutes on the V11 Sport.

When I use the access port, I invariably cannot get the filter loose. So I remove the sump which isn't much of a chore compared to trying to remove an obstinate filter through that hole. Plus - if you cross thread the port cover, you're looking at some very expensive replacements of machining costs. I have heard of it happening, so anything is possible. Another thing about the port - you can't neccessarily see that you've installed the filter correctly if you're not familiar with filter installations. The Rosso Mandello in Ecuador had that happen and blew the engine when the filter was installed slightly cocked and failed to seat properly as a result.

Robbie, have you been reading your email? Eldo John off the Wild Guzzi list beat you to that bike by about two weeks. Sorry. FWIW, you might want to consider a Ducati Monster if Ingrid is moving up to a larger displacement bike. If that's a tad tall, contact Mike Stewart about the mods he did to his wife's monster to accomodate her lesser stature. Heck, the Ninja is probably a better bike than the V65C - unless you're just plain stuck on Guzzi's. There is a better example than mine of a V65C in Texas down around San Antonio that's for sale at the moment. Half the mileage on it too.

The Fun: The Beach Boys immortalized "California Girls", they just mentioned the others. Go to our beaches and you'll see why. This won't work in La La Land if you're allergic to silicone... Straight pipes invite raw fuel etc at some point in their combustion/scavenging/rpm cycle along with other noxious byproducts. The Honda hybrid doesn't. Neither does my Prius, but I don't drive my hybrid for fun, the bike I do. I don't need straight pipes to have fun on a bike either. You need fun roads. California has plenty. And the CHP has radios. You have to be careful where and how you exercise your priviledge to have fun. Note that it's priviledge and not a right. If you over exercise the privilege of having fun, it always seems like someone else has the right to arrest you for it or deprive you of it. California is ridiculous is a lot of ways, but it isn't bad - just very expensive. Still, it's cheaper to buy gas at our inflated prices when compared to anywhere in Europe, so it's all relative. Cigars? Smoking is almost a dying fad out here. Why smoke when you can take a deep heady breath of equally deadly (long term) smog? No tax on smog either, all you can breathe for free. In fact, if you want some smog, we'll be happy to share. Just come on over, breathe deep - and leave the state before you exhale That's why Bush did so poorly here during the Presidential elections. He doesn't "inhale". We couldn't send any smog back to Texas with him.

I dunno. Perhaps you could stick on Daytona RS barrels, heads, smog crap etc - exhaust system too, the complete set of lighting to meet DOT requiremets, take it down to the CHP and tell them you re-framed your Daytona after an accident and have it re-registered or "Blue" stickered as a custom build.

Oh crap! You're right. I looked at the wrong side of the kill switch on the diagram. The fuel solenoid is fed by Fuse 8 which is in turn fed directly off of the engine RUN/OFF switch and back through all of that other stuff. It lives all right, but the top part of the gasket on the timing cover either slipped, tore or is the wrong (?) one, so there's a gap at the top. Who knew the timing chain could throw so much oil through such a small gap? At any rate, that's the last "known" problem which I hope to resolve this week and then proceed (yet again) with the formal shake down period. I will admit that the larger rake of the 1996 frame feels weird on this bike. It ought to feel just like the Sport 1100i, but it doesn't. I'll have to take some wheelbase and rear ride height measurements and compare those with the Sport 1100i to see if fitting the six speed transmission into the earlier frame is the difference. Or it could be that this frame is even shorter than the early V11 Sport ones, but that's doubtful.

Tuck it underneath and out of the way. That's the plug for the electric fuel solenoid valve which your bike no longer has. It is on a separate fuse, but don't be tempted to use it to power an electric vest or driving light or anything of that sort. That plug is powered off of the clutch interlock switch which is not a high current circuit.

I wish... This is from the original V11 LeMans concept by Marabese Studios. Courtesy of an eBay auction, I have the original hanging over my computer. The closest I'll probably get is this: I'm not fond of the rectangular headlight, but changing it over is beyond my skills. And my budget (zero at the moment).

Well for sure it's going to be (hideously) expensive - even with used parts. A bit of drilling on the fairing is almost certainly going to be required because the Lemans has an extra bit of space in the frame just behind the steering head that the earlier Sports don't have. Since the rear of the fairing is supported by some small brackets that bolt to the cylinder heads, the brackets will not line up directly with the mount holes in the fairing. Outside of that, I don't have a clue. I do know that mounting an early Daytona fairing (or later one for that matter) to a Sport is a lengthy and expensive proposition. It might be a better choice to trade in or up to a LeMans and let someone else battle the elements on the Sport.

Let me clarify that. It's the bracket that I have, not the arm. No matter. It's a bracket from a 1996 carb sport and it is flimsier and even further forward than what you had. THe ONLY mount point it has is that same bolt hole that's damaged on yours. I can just visualize using this poor excuse for a sidestand bracket and having the bike fall over after five minutes because the remaining threads stripped from the stress.
