  3. I've got a black 1200 Sport and a red 2003 LeMans. To your question: > Is a V11 a very different animal from the 1200 Sport in terms of the riding position, handling and overall character?? Riding position: I have bar risers on the V11 and Mana Bars on the Sport. My Sport is more upright with more legroom. It feels larger and roomier. If you played basketball in college you might prefer the Sport. If you are smaller in stature you might like the V11. Handling: Both handle well. Character: The Sport is a more refined machine. More of an all arounder. A V11 is sportier and a bit more raw. I could be happy with either. Mike

  6. That's my old Scura. I did swap out the cans. I put the carbon cans on my LeMans because I prefer the sound. Just a bit of history. I bought it 6 or 7 years ago in Wisconsin. A divorce I think, and the wife was selling it. Before buying it I ran a VIN check and it was clean. I found the previous owner and called him. He said it was a good bike. So I knew much of the history before buying. I rode it back to Arizona from Wisc. I spent 5 or 6 years polishing the jewel. The list you posted is partial. I pretty much went thru most of the bike. I loved the bike and selling it was very, very hard for me. But I never rode it the last 6 months. So made the decision to pass it along for someone else to enjoy. Hopefully to someone who will love it and take care of it. Here's another pic or the right side of the bike. Mike

  8. Yeah, that's my old Scura. It got bumped out of the garage by my 1200 Sport. It was in great shape when it left my place. I saw it on Ebay a few days ago. I wouldn't have any hesitation about buying it back. It should make someone a nice bike. Mike

I considered having them carbon dipped using hydrographics. Mostly all that ls left for the LeMans is "polishing the jewel." Replace the front fender, carbon hugger, 3M Scotchguard clear bra for the fairing. maybe powrder coat the exhaust headers black. Do you know if Bill is going to do the San Diego rally this year?   11. As a way of introduction, I’m the guy who got Tim’s LeMans that was the subject of a thread here. He and I worked a deal around my ST3 and his LeMans. It worked well for both of us. He loves the sporty nature of the ST3 and I love the long legs of the LeMans. I don’t post much to forums, but thought you might enjoy an update and perhaps a couple of the changes I made might work for other V11 owners. I swapped the titanium exhaust for a carbon one because I prefer the deeper resonance of a carbon can to the metallic sound of a metal one. I had my FI guy put the bike on an exhaust gas analyzer. He richened the mixture and got rid of any hiccups by loosening up the valve settings. (When the engine gets hot, the metal expands. It causes the valve to stay open longer. It then backfires thru the valve causing the “hiccup” or even killing the motor.) Now the fueling is flawless. Even at 108 here in Phoenix. I liked the bars on the ST3 and looked for ways to replicate them on the LeMans. I solved the problem by using the stock bars and adding a 2” riser. I bought some nice, CNC machined, black risers from AliExpress for $28. (Go to Aliexpress and search for 2” handlebar risers.) The stock lines worked, but had to be rerouted. The front brake master cylinder contacted the riser and had to be trimmed. (That one took awhile.) The stock base and bars were painted black. The additional comfort means longer days in the saddle before fatigue sets in. I decided to try one of the $19 clip on windshield spoilers. Again from Aliexpress. (Search for “adjustable motorcycle windscreen deflector”). I like the adjustability and easy on/easy off for summer days. It’s moved the wind blast from my chin to the top of my helmet. Lastly some soft bags from CycleCase (www.cyclecase.com) and a backpack for luggage. Plenty of room for a 3-5 day extended weekend. My V11 Sports were great day trippers. But lacked the continent piercing ability of a big motor GT bike. A well sorted LeMans will cover ground molto veloce. Long legged indeed. I hope to see many of you in Datil in August. Mike

Since both the Daytona and Sport 1100 and Scura are all spineys I'd assume the fit is similar. On the Daytona fairing I had to trim the fairing near the tank. Otherwise ok.   16. Hi Bob, It was a Daytona fairing and lowers on a V11 Sport. Not a Sport 1100. I sold the parts when I decided to keep the Scura original. You can buy a Sport 1100 fairing from Airtech. But Daytona fairings and lowers are unobatnium. Shoot me an email if you have any questions. Mike
  17. The only rumors I'm hearing are Japanese. The Honda Neo Sports and 2 from Kawasaki. A supercharged ZX14 replacement and a 900 retro bike. Nothing from any of the euro manufacturers. But I wouldn't be surprised to see Guzzi bring out some new V9 models. Mike

  19. I might add the 1200 4V motor is rated at 95 hp, the 8V at 105. Mostly at the top of the rev range. I did find a Stelvio dyno chart. It's the 8V motor. Note the steep power curve beginning around 4K.. I might add here, the difference between the 2 is purely personal. You might find the 8V more entertaining. I'm just trying to point out there is a difference in power characteristics between the 4V 1200 and the 8V 1200. It's noticeable when riding. There was an 8V 1200 Sport. One with 2 valves per cylinder and one with 4 valves per cylinder. Mike
  20. While you're at it Milar, could you address the "2 step 8V power band". What is that, and could you give any further insight to the differences in the 4V and 8V? Thanks for asking. The 8V motor is plenty strong, but really comes alive in the higher rpms. But it starts pulling harder at the bottom and the curve is flatter. It's a matter of taste which you prefer. I happen to like a lot of torque off the bottom. The other issue is the failure of flat tappets in the early 8V motor. Moto Guzzi finally switched to roller tappets around 2013 (?), but the first years of the 8V motor are subject to failure and should be converted to roller tappets. Moto Guzzi made the V11 platform that spawned an number of bikes. The Daytona - Centaruo - Sport 1100 - Sport - LeMans. They replaced that platform with the Carc platform that spawned 3 models: Breva - Norge - 1200 Sport. (The Griso/Stelvio use a different frame) The original bike was the Breva 1100. An 1100cc standard style motorcycle. The next bike introduced was the Norge. A touring bike with full fairing. It went thru various refinements and 2 engines, a 1200cc 2 valve and a 1200cc 4 valve. And the last model was the Sport. It was based on the Norge, not the Breva. It featured a tuned 1200cc 2V motor with petal brakes, free flow exhaust, sport suspension, tube bars and a headlight fairing instead of the Norge full fairing. It was only imported in the US in 2008 in black or red. I hope that helps. Mike
  22. I might be able to contribute here as I've owned several of the bikes mentioned: I currently own a (black) 1200 Sport and a Scura. Previously I owned an 8 Valve Griso and a Breva 11. They all do have separate personalities. The 2 closest are the Scura and Griso 8V. I had both in the garage at the same time. Sold the Griso and kept the Scura. But you might feel differently. Both are bad boys. The Scura the badder of the two. The last of the red hot Guzzi's. The Breva and Sport 1200 are based on the same platform, but aren't very similar. The Breva is soft and comfy. I called it my "cruiser." The Sport is much more athletic and much faster. It feels as fast as the 8V Griso but has a broad torque curve w'o the 2 step 8V power band. I'm not sure why Guzzi built the 8V motor with it's problems. In a nutshell: Scura: the sportiest and baddest of the bunch. Great for weekends and twisty roads. Charisma in spades. Griso 8V; a larger, refined Scura. Ok to tour on. But it's a power cruiser at heart. Closest in feel to a V11. Breva 11: One of the best touring bikes I've owned. Did a Saddlesore 1000 on mine and it barely broke a sweat. But a Scura/Griso leaves it dead when the road starts to curve. Sport 1200: The handling and power of a Griso/Scura with the touring ability of a Breva/Norge. IMHO the cream of the Carcs. I hope that helps. Mike
