The Nuovo Falcone went on to a plain bearing.

I'm certainly getting a lesson here, thank you gentlemen. Just looking at it from a layman's point of view I suspect that the change to plain bearings also has something to do with the improvements in lubrication technologies - I notice the oil specifications are continually changing. I would guess that it would rarely be cost effective to change from a plain bearing to a roller because of poor lubrication, surely improving the oil flow would be a cheaper option. More metal to support a roller in the forging or casting would I suspect often require a major redesign, larger oil pump or improved galleries less so. Any thoughts?

Hope this works - I just like her smile sorry if it's been posted before

No Paul - nothing to show loss of pressure yet. Waiting to see what happens when it is fully stripped. Rock and Road, where I bought it are always really helpful and it is in their hands now.

The reason I ask is that I have just had a catastrophic failure with my Highland. Just put the Rosso Corsa away for the winter, blocked up, cleaned, lubed, battery stored and SORNed. No salt for my beauty. Then the following day on a wet and windy motorway north of Blackburn doing a steady 80 - 85 the Highland big end collapsed. The bike has been well cared for, never thrashed - (it is very fast) and I just don't understand it. Taking it down I see there are roller and needle bearings throughout and it seems really well built. This in contrast to the KTM LC8 that is similar in design yet with all plain bearings. Haven't heard of bearing failure with those. The Highland is such a top machine for me that when this problem is sorted I need to ensure it never happens again. Constructive advice would be really welcome.

Does an engine that has roller and needle roller bearings for mains, big end and camshafts have any advantage over one with plain bearing only. Comments on longevity, friction, and expense would be welcome. Simple language please.

Ask those who died by the firing squad of their own side 'what is freedom?' Freedom - what is it? Does it apply to everyone? Are weak, old or sick people allowed it? Some gave their lives, most had them taken. Conscription, the Draft - freedom? All the pomp, the flags, the speeches for the dead, yet we cannot even give the survivors the decent life, care and respect they deserve and have truly earned.

Whats with the Brits?
John in Leeds replied to dhansen's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Today is Remebrance Sunday, when we remember those killed in recent wars (from 1914). I think this is a time to honestly think whether our views and actions make war in it's many forms more or less likely for future generations. Yesterday a small group of people from the islands of and round Diego Garcia staged a demonstration outside Downing Street for the return of their land stolen from them by both the British and US governments some 40 years ago. This simple injustice is one of many that can only fuel resentment and build up the fires that armement manufacturers are happy to stoke. Committing our men and women to conflict should never be for self interest or lies. Otherwise we will in the end all loose our honour, our authority and our friends. -

Yeh, what the hell go for it! Wave the flag, just don't let it take the brain out of gear. The written principles of US society are shining as are those of many other societies, unfortunately behind the marketing there is also a reality. Best system, for who? Can you think of any for whom it is not the best? Benign - Blackwater? Who will or can hold them for abuse of power in the US society? us old gits eh? -

I know I'm going to regret posting this because it will bring all the flag wavers out of the woodwork , but it needs to be said. We seriously need to consider if the world needs a proven bent policeman. In a society where self interest and consumerism are the guiding principles it is very difficult for the honourable 'policeman' or politician to flourish. It can also be argued that many of the insecurities that the developed nations face today have a route cause in the inadvisable 'police' actions of the past. -
Is it worth changing the ECU chip on it's own...?

The lads on the trails reckon even the Highland is far too heavy and they're right. It is however far lighter then my old 1150gs, there's no way I could have ridden the stuff we did on Friday on that. The Highland will also cruise all day at the hundred making it one of the best dual purpose bikes. Access to trails is a real problem, Dave and Stuart are long time TRF (Trail Riders Fellowship) route experts. Legality is changing all the time so it is important that historic roads are claimed before they are lost. The main problem has been irresponsible bike users creating unnecessary nuisance and damage. They have f

The Highland died the death in the US because they couldn't get it to run to Californian (?) standards. The current inlet problem set up is difficult to modify because of the specialist fuel tank. This does not stop it being an amazing bike and really worth having. Currently developments are being tested in Sweden and are promising with even more power that will solve the problem. Unfortunately they are a small outfit without the resourses to make the best of their product. I expect the bike to be coming out of China soon, made under licence. It should then be cheap too. http://www.tradeatchina.com/company/catalo...Motorcycle.html http://img2.tradeatchina.com/photo/51339468/Motorcycle.jpg http://www.tradeatchina.com/company/catalo...0cc_Engine.html http://www.tradeatchina.com/company/sokuso/index.html
