  1. The first bike I ever really loved, mine is '03 registered '04. This bike will stay with me while I still have the ability to ride a motorcycle and then it might, just might go to my eldest son. Others may come and go not this one. Just remember it is not everybody's cup of tea but take time to learn it and I think you will find like me it is the most rewarding of motorcycles. Good wishes
  2. picture of both high and low position here http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...c=97&st=150
  3. Yes, please keep us up to date for booking details etc. Never done a track day - something to learn.
  4. Let's take another tack, you can compare all you like one bike with another but really the wonderful V11 is a 'no loose' bike. All tests say it is low on horsepower and heavy, ergo it cannot compete with the hypebikes - if they are faster than you there is no qudos to them. They are faster than a slower, heavier bike, so what. However, you learn to master your V11, make it work near it's optimum, know your road, roadcraft and lines and then you can get near, match or even beat them on your patch or on a good day. You are then the God, the myth and their excuses come tumbling out, 'my tyres', ' a misfire'. Love your bike - it's looks, simplicity, history, mine will stay with me forever. Just enjoy.
  5. Greg if you've posted this before please post the link, otherwise more details please (Holy grail for a V11?)
  6. Thanks gentlemen, Clearly the sheets match the periferal holes perfectly, I thought there may be some discrepancy in certain models, mine is manufactured 03. Was yours Ratchet? No problem for me Pete the sheet gives me some confidence when the oil level drops and I'm afraid my wheelies are involuntary and usually very short.
  7. Have just installed the sloppage sheet as per instructions I thought. Placed the gaskets on the plate with a little water pump grease to ensure correct seating offered it up, added some periferal bolts loosely then offered up the valve block and found that the 4 fixing bolts would not align correctly. Took it all off and removed about 1.5mm from the side of the 4 holes in the sloppage sheet, cleaned it all off and then fitted again. All good. I was wondering if this is usual, is there some slight variance in the drilling of the valve block fitting? If so it may be good advice to offer up the plate before fitting the gaskets to ensure correct alignment. Anyway no leaks and no stripped threads, so cheers Pete
  8. Oh Bugger! bought six back from Utah. Just fitted the Roper sheet and a new Purolator 2 hours ago Sump off in the morning then. Heh Hoh
  9. You had a 'Velo'? Lucky bugger, I could never afford one. BSA c15 or Tiger Cub, and if you were very flash a 5 speed Crusader. Me a BSA C12
  10. Payment on it's way John. This could be the best mod to my Rosso Corsa. Comfort encourages riding, just the job for my Limoge trip in May. Many thanks for your efforts.
  11. Top man John - no messing about, looks like some long runs this summer. thanks
  12. Put me down for 1 set in the best finish possible. However I will take either option you decide. Cheers John
  13. One of the best road racers I ever had the good fortune to see started with ice racing in Finland. His name was Jarno Sarinen. He seemed to get track records where ever he went. Doing his own spanner work on a 350 Yam as a privateer. With narrow clipons set low in the fairing he was an astonishing proponent of the 2 wheel drift. Something I had not seen in road racing only in flat track and speedway. Even as a privateer he just walked away from the best. Sadly he was killed in an accident together with Renzo? Passolini whilst overtaking a back marker. It was many years before we were to see what is now (for the Gods) a commonplace technique.
  14. To us colourblind (thats colour) people this Guzzi is CAMMO, the new stealth bike. I like it
  15. That's just what DVH asked me but he also seemed to think I would have to dress up. and you're right about the snow I got some chains 5 years ago and never had to use 'em, bloody global warmin'
  16. Passed no bother. No comment on sound, just said it was a nice looking bike. Brilliant ride home before the rain and sleet Sunday sees the sunshine in Las Vegas, see how the 'mericans do things
  17. Sonja to MOT in Harrogate tomorrow morning, she's an MOT virgin - hope they ignore the Ti's. I think I will coast in, that should be quiet enough
  18. I've been chewing this over and realise that the cost of this work is going to be fairly high, non the less I would like a set as they will really make my riding much more enjoyable and extend my possible miles per day. This Bike is likely to stay with me a long time so I don't mind paying significant money for what is a considerable improvement. Looking forward to taking delivery if you take it on.
  19. Not at all Ratchet Your observations were absolutely right I just saw the offroad tyres and could not help but smile. If ever there was real ambition it was there. Could be someones dream but to me it looked like a quick way to hospital - I don't know if you've ever weighed your bike but I'm sure if it ever lands on anyone it will smart My Highland has got some serious traction and with 77 ft/lbs at 4000 and 85bhp at 6000 (claimed) goes like smoke but even this at 370lbs wet is a little heavy for anything technical off the tar. regards John
  20. I'll stick to the Highland after all then......
  21. I now know how to makeover my Rosso Corsa http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=211830 next winter eh!
  22. It just gets better - I should have guessed from the quality of the finish that you wouldn't have missed out on the basic principles. TOP
  23. I think the attractive element here Greg is the extra room, probably twice as much as anything else available (correct me if I'm wrong). There is only one small concern for me: does the much increased length (5 inches) of control levers make a real difference to the feel of the rear brake (could give much more power) and is gear selection less precise? The positioning seems absolutely ideal for the leg.
  24. This seems to be a very elegant way to solve a real Guzzi problem (for some of us). DVH sold his Rosso because of the lack of knee extention and this is one of the few problems I have with the bike. Could we have some pics of the left side fitted please with the same leg comparison. Finally would you make some more and if so what's the deal. Really nice work, congratulations
  25. If you could give us some idea of your programme Pete we could make arrangements for pick up, payment and even a pint maybe? I'll send my phone number and if you want accommodation in Leeds or Manchester please come and stay. I will be in the US however from the 18th March until April 1st regards John
