"Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Bike
John in Leeds replied to mznyc's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
The first book was particularly disturbing to me in detailing the brutal misuse of power on a helpless individual. I would like to think it was also disturbing to others highlighting a dark factor of humanity that can be be combated in nearly all areas by a culture of openness. It could be that the popularity of the series is partly because the sensible if disturbing portrayal is coupled by a fulfilment of the revenge fantasy that it inevitably engendered. Would that it were so in real life -

"Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Bike

Not forgetting violence, sadism & torture, described in loving detail without aim of furthering characterisation or plot. Could have been an epic story but got bogged down in vouyerism. That's the book, not seen the film. KB In our house violence, sadism & torture are seen as totally different to gratuitous lesbian sex We sadly get violence, sadism & torture every day on tv often sponsored by our masters. How pleased I would be if it was replaced by gratuitous lesbian sex -

Nah, definitely light on the gratuitous sex. I read all three hoping they would improve -

Great trilogy Hollywood on the money pump, if The Killing series remake is an exemplar I don't think I'll bother -
Think the above post needs a little bit of sorting out Skeeve mate. Interestingly UK also had a large area of oil ownership in the North sea too. Strangely (to some) the long term benefit to the UK is somewhat less impressive.

Stew died in a fire and his body was burned pretty badly. The morgue needed someone to identify the body, so they sent for his two best friends, Mick and Paddy. The three men had always done everything together. Mick arrived first, and when the mortician pulled back the sheet Mick said, 'Yup, his face is burned up pretty bad. You better roll him over.' The mortician rolled him over and Mick said, 'Nope, ain't Stew.' The mortician thought this was rather strange. So he brought Paddy in to confirm the identity of the body. Paddy looked at the body and said, 'Yup, he's pretty well burnt up. Roll him over.' The mortician rolled him over and Paddy said, 'No, it ain't Stew.' The mortician asked, 'How can you tell?' Paddy said, 'Well, Stew had two arseholes.' 'What? He had two arseholes?' asked the mortician. 'Yup, we never seen 'em, but everybody used to say: There's Stew with them two arseholes.'

Replaced mine with GSXR seals for a longer life. Hope they don't wear through that gold finish too quickly. Felt as if the forks were less compliant but my guru (mate) said it was likely to be the fresh fork oil. Even with a click off comp and rebound they don't 'feel' quite so silky. Could be the mind plays silly tricks of course

A little more reasonable from here Micro relays Scroll down. Can't remember if they had the diode in though. Mine are still going strong after replacement edit - BTW this supplier is excellent for all wiring and plug products. Have a wander round and see how much Guzzi applicable gear is there

There must be too much heavy traffic to make a ferry practical for that spot, so the investment in the bridge was worthwhile. Either that or traffic is so infrequent as to make a ferry non-self-supporting. Be nice if one of the Norwegian brethren could chime in here but I don't really think economics could justify some of the massive infrastructure spending in the last 20 years. Some of the tunnels are astonishing.

A couple of years ago Sue and I were planning to ferry to Bergen taking the tandem. Train up towards Hardangervidda plateau getting off at Myrdal then riding down the track that follows the railway to Flåm, a fabulous ride that I did years ago, about 20 miles if I remember and all downhill. Then the fast ferry back through the fjords to Bergen. We got saved up and then Fjordline stopped the service. Thought we could use the DFDS to Christiansand and they stopped that too. So it looks like we might do 2012 but as Søren says 'very expensive'

Looks like Fjordline are back in business Delighted Edit - just been on the Fjordline site, Avast flagged up a trojan but they're taking bookings???

Goldmann Sachs runs the world
John in Leeds replied to Baldini's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Indeed what does it say about the BBC 'presenters' who are amazed at the relaxed revelations from a trader. These presenters are in the 'security' business (thanks Monkey ) and therefore really don't want to know. -
Goldmann Sachs runs the world
John in Leeds replied to Baldini's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
I guess most of you don't bother with the Keiser report on RT. As Keith says, this is not news to many. Yes, this is diabolical and unethical but since when was the market place anything else. A few win big, the rest of the world can fight over the crumbs. My question would be 'who runs Goldman Sachs?' and I don't think the clue is just in the name There are 2 circles in my estimation; Greed, secrecy and corruption, Ethics, openness and accountability. One of them is broken, one is ascendant Could this be the new Global Warming thread? -
Years ago my one armed mate had the clutch lever positioned below the front brake lever. He managed everything well. Not sure how he worked the clutch and front brake together though the clutch and throttle was no problem to manipulate. There must be loads of peopple in the same position, so there's bound to be a solution

Been said before... F_U_C_K IT'S QUIET!
John in Leeds replied to ScuRoo's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Quite chilly! It bloomin' well lashed down! Sounded like 20,000 horsemen of the apocalypse riding over the roof. Black as sin. We had some snow in parts today. Tomorrow: "South and East getting away with some sunshine.." her words (just as I was thinking, the Southerners seem to be getting away... "a lot of dry and sunny weather across Kent" he says. "Across north and west the showers keep going relentlessly", he says. Looks like the 'Global Warming' thread is sneaking in through the back door here Better keep you eye on these boys Jaap Could be some serious trouble -
What do you ride that for?
John in Leeds replied to PeteTW's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Yes, what a beauty but why try to pick holes in someone's joy? Just don't get it myself. With regard to the front plate issue, my AJS from 1960 had the plates on the sides of the front mudguard (see Avatar) it did mean that the valances were a little deeper than the sports models. Back to the original question, if anyone is stupid enough to decry Sonja, I usually reply (with a little smugness) 'no I don't think it would be for you' -
Old style touring
John in Leeds replied to gavo's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
What a wonderful adventure I'll give it a serious going over this weekend. Particularly liked the pictures of the S8 Sunbeam. One of many bikes I had as a 17 year old. Very reliable and incredibly smooth for its day -
Try before you buy, there's lots of other bikes you can ride slow but I think you'll want the whole range Just be aware the V11 may not be for you but if it is
