2002 v11 Scura electrical issues....need help
plexiform replied to plexiform's topic in Technical Topics
Ground is in place behind seat lock as described above. I get 12.8v across the battery and across the positive lead and anywhere on the frame so I am assuming that means ground is doing what it's supposed to. Is that a correct assumption...? Haven't delved in to the ignition switch yet but that will be next. If there are any other thoughts I'm all ears. -
2002 v11 Scura electrical issues....need help
plexiform replied to plexiform's topic in Technical Topics
so i went with a Yuasa AGM and filled it and charged it for 20hours per instructions. Got 13.28v across the leads at full charge and then installed it and tried it out. Same thing happened: fuse blew and bike did not start. Not sure whats going on. There are currently 3 wires connected to each lead. I checked behind the helmet lock and did nnot see any wires attached to the frame so not sure where the ground is going. Anyone able to explain or show a picture of what the wires on the battery leads should look like? Thanks I will look at the ignition switch in the meantime. -

2002 v11 Scura electrical issues....need help
plexiform replied to plexiform's topic in Technical Topics
Thanks for all the responses. Might as well get a new battery since I have no idea how old this one really is. Any recommendations as to which one to get? Didn't have a chance to work on it today but hopefully tomorrow. -
thanks, that would be an easy fix.

2002 v11 Scura electrical issues....need help
plexiform replied to plexiform's topic in Technical Topics
Thanks will try the ground wire clean/lube. Yes definitely needs a good tune. I might even just take it to a mechanic once I get it running and have major service done. -
I have a starting problem also and hoping someone could help. I just picked up a 2002 v11 scura and it started initially but the battery was dead when i brought the bike home so i put it on the trickle charger and got it reading 12.48v. When i try to start it now i can hear a pump turn on i can here starter turning but then it slows down real fast and eventually blows fuse #4 for the ignition switch. is that because i am pressing the engine start button for longer than 5 seconds? Anyway i changed out the fuse and it happened again. I can't get the bike started now. Battery is less than a yr old assuming the previous owner is honest but he hadn't been riding much and did not have it on a tender. Where do I start troubleshooting this?

Bought this bike from a guy who hasn't ridden it much lately so battery might need to be replaced. Placed it on battery tender and it does get fully charged. Voltage meter across the battery leads is at 12.5 when fully charged. Then when I try to start it, the engine turns over fine but takes time to start. Got it started like this several times since I bought the bike but today when I tried it, the engine kept turning over and did not start. Eventually starts turning over slower and seems like battery is about to die. Then all the dash lights shut off at once while trying to start. Checked fuse....the #15 fuse with the circle with two dots on it had blown. Replaced it and tried to start it up again and same thing happened. Fuse blew agai after trying to start. Where do I even start diagnosis this problem. I'm new to working on electrical issues so not sure what the problem is. Any help is appreciated

if anyone knows how to post larger images let me know. heres another one my 02 scura in coppa italia clothing.....

I haven't decided if I like the paint this way. There may be a paint job in this bikes future to bring it back to the satin black/gray original look. I think it's hard to beat that look.

Thanks! I've been having V11 envy ever since getting rid of my 03 lemans years ago....finally back in it. This actually is a scura but the owner had it painted to look like a coppa italia color scheme. Paint was done very professionally though.

for the folks who reinstalled the valve and kept it vertical....do you still have tank suck when opening the gas cap or has it solved that problem? Thanks
-
I have a 2003 LeMans....what can I do to prevent this from happening to my bike as well? So far I havent noticed a problem. Thanks.
-
I have staintunes on my lemans and i've been pretty happy with them. If you're going for deep sound but not obnoxiously loud, and you can appreciate the smoothness of the polished finish, then you will not be dissappointed with the Staintunes.

Well the bike definitely has "tank suck". I never noticed the 'whoosh' sound when opening the tank but i heard it loud and clear yesterday when I read the replies on this forum. I have since taken the under tank venting valve off. Fast By Ferracci service department was very helpful to walk me through the procedure over the phone. I just removed the valve and taped the two hose ends together. The bubbling really does not ook like paint bubbling up from teh plastic. The plastic itself is warped. I still dont get how this is related to a venting problem, but ifremoving the valve prevents further warping, thats good enough for me. If I had to paint the tank again i wouldn't be completely devastatd since I know a good painter locally who would do it for a great price, but replacing the tank would be a BIG pain in the butt. The dealership says the tank is $1100....thats simply not an option at this point. Anyway thanks for the replies. Hopefully this solves the problem from getting any worse. I'll keep you posted. One comment regarding the fuel additives: I dont understand why it would just occur in a few areas and not even right around teh tank opening where one would expect to have accidently spilled some fuel.....but anything is possible.

Has anyone else had this happen to their guzzi? There are several areas on the tank that appear to be warped (bubbling outward). Never noticed it before. I've had the bike for 2yrs now and just noticed it the other day. There are several areas on the tank that have this problem. On the right side where your knee rests while riding, the right side just forward from the guzzi logo. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Does anyone know if there is a dual seat with back reast available for the later lemans. I have a 2003 lemans. The wife wants to ride but wants a seat with a backreast. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
