Hey folks ive been brainstorming/brainfarting about places where the fuel pump could be relocated to to avoid engine heat, would it be possible to put it under the seat to where the tool kit is located, running longer lines, and extending the wires, leaving the fuel filter where it is. It seems doable to me. what do you folks think?

Thats an interesting idea(Yes it shows your age!) HeHe, if this insulatory wrap doesnt work, i will have to relocate the pump i live in arizona and its hotter than hell here.

Yesterday after a long highway ride in 90 degree temps,I parked my guzzi in the garage then came back 25 minutes later and tried to ride off. The bike would start, miss then die numerous times. the fuel pump would pressurize then shut off. I tried to get it to run 6 or 7 times and it woul act like there was no fuel, when I twisted the throttle, then stall out. then I got an idea, I got a spray bottle filled it with cold water from my refrigerato, sprayed down my fuel pump, hit the starter, and it immediately started and ran normally. I am personally convinced the cause is heat on the pump from the left jug. Tonight I made a heat shield from aluminum flashing material, and lined it with 1/2" foam rubber on the inside, then wrapped it around the fuel pump, and secured it with nylon zip ties. Time will tell if this does the trick, Im keeping my fingers crossed......

Steve, is your fairing the givi a755 or the a750?
-

Is cracking of the crossover common to all v 11 sports, or only certain years? I recently removed my 2002 fpr polishing and it had reinforcements at all 4 outlet pipes.....

Yes Vicodin can be wonderful, but you have to watch out for severe constipation caused by it. If you dont take agressive measures to prevent it ,it will plug you up tighter than a drum. You need to eat lots of fiber, and drink lots of fluids, on some nurse with a long index finger will be doing a digital disimpaction on you. Dont ask how I know this.....

Excellent post KB, very well said. To be quite honest, though, I love my guzzi, and its a fact that there is no feeling like riding a Guzzi, my 21 year old son who has been riding motorcycles since he was 7 ,and currently rides a new fuel injected CBR 600, takes my V 11 out for a ride and comes back saying" this bike is really fun, I cant explain it ,but it really makes you feel good all over to ride it" Were it not for this forum, and the excellent people here, I would not own a Guzzi ,though.

Ahhhh, The magic redline elixer! I still get down on my knees every couple of days to check the top of my crossover for a red drop of leakage, but its dry,YES its dry! no leakage at all! back in 2001 I sold my beautiful Rosso Mandello because I got pissed that the tranny had a leak, If I had known about Redline SPH I would still be riding that beautiful machine. Oh well, I love my 2003 naked as well.

Hey Windchill, all these problems your gearbox has given you, has it been the shift spring breaking every time, or have there been other issues with the gearbox? Maybe the solution would be to install one of the aftermarket springs that are made here in the US. They are supposed to be of better quality. also many have had success with rounding off the area where the spring touches. What is that number you posted,is it a phone number?

Thanks for the links, Bellfastguzzi, great pics, eh! I see you have an 02 scura, no spring problems yet? how many miles on it? I want to be proactive in this thing, I hate roadside repairs! makes no sense in waiting for that sucker to break, when a better spring is available for under $20. and the boss is easily filed down if needed. also I have a good supply of cold beer in my garage, and way too many rattlesnakes on the sides of the road here in Arizona!
-
Thanks, Good tip, I usually forget to disconnect the battery! The ensuing sparks are an expensive reminder though Im not sure what a draw hammer is? is it a slide hammer? are there any safe places to pry on the cover? Thanks again!
-
Thanks, Mal, I appreciate the tips, I dont really want to wait till it breaks, Im anxious to measure the boss and see if its too big,and file it down if needed. distances between towns are usually over 50 miles here in rural Arizona, and a breakdown in the middle of nowhere in 100+ degree heat is no fun!

Thanks for the reply and tips , Phil . everyday I learn a little bit more, Im feeling confident that I can do this job, thanks to all the fine folks on this forum.

Im getting ready to check the shift spring and boss diameter on my 02 V11 naked Ive read all of the posts and seen all the excellent pics posted here . (thank God for this forum,or we would be screwed) my question is is the aftermarket spring from "bonnie" at cannon racecraft better than the MG replacement? has there been any failures of the aftermarket spring? It seems possible that not only the 16mm boss ,but also poor spring tempering by MG may be a factor. one last question..... after the cover is removed ,with the bike in neutral I assume? Is there anything special to watch out for when dissassembling the shift mechanism to get to the spring? Thanks Folks, Im trying to build up my courage, beforew I start wrenching!

PHEW! (sigh of relief) I was starting to worry that our trannies would grenade for an unknown reason! Thanks for the reassurance

Thanks for the reply, I need to check mine, but im a little hesitant to take the side cover off and not put things back together properly. Is it pretty easy to do, or are there pitfalls with lining up the shifting mechanism properly? Rick

Whats the best way to file that boss down, a Dremel? is there a danger of messing it up if you remove a little too much material?
-
Did the dealer ever figgure out what caused your tranny to explode? sounds like it was something they did during the recall....

900 miles after putting in the heavy, and not a drop of leakage on my crossover, the gearbox is much quieter, and the shifting is silky smooth, I love the strawberry milkshake!! but I live in southern arizona , where todays temp was 98 degrees F . and it rarely gets below 40 degrees in the middle of winter. Im deffinitely sold on this stuff. I also put it in the final drive of my 1500 vulcan and it runs MUCH cooler to the touch. maybe a mixture of light/heavy is better for some people, But the color wont be as pretty!
-
Thank You, Rob, Im so happy my leak stopped . I was dreading taking my beloved V 11 to the dealer to be taken apart for God knows how long. Life is good!
-
Hey, What a great idea, Im there dude!

2 days ago I converted my tranny to RLSPH man, thats some crazy stuff! first of all, it looks like a strawberry milkshake, the funnel I used to pour it in was still coated on the inner walls the next day! talk about cling strength! that stuff doesnt drip off. I noticed an instant smoothness in shifting, a quieter gearbox, and lo and behold my tranny leak has stopped! not a drop on the crossover after 200 miles in the hot arizona desert. Im a believer! Yes I am..... I put it in the final drive too, in the final drive of my nomad 1500,also . Im walking around the house with a can full of the magic red elixer to find other things to lubricate, Aha! the squeaky door hinge of my Camry, what else? Im still looking....

My 2003(actually 2002) naked has a set of the Ti,s and accompanying ecu. it was strictly plug and play and it runs awesome, not a hiccup. Also the throttle response is crisp and powerful, much improved over stock!
