I reread your post and realized I kind of skipped over the "my rear drive" portion. It is a pretty straightforward job. Good luck. See you at the rally, I hope. Most everybody is packing up and heading out on Sunday morning.

I'm not so sure you want to do the pinion installation yourself unless you have gear mesh testing experience. Pete Roper did a nice write up last year about this drive box. There is a really wierd bearing on the pinion shaft. It has a two piece outer race. There's a male threaded collar with castellations that you should have a special tool for removal and installation.

Myers or Meyers Triumph Ducati Moto Guzzi is 250 miles west in Asheville. Good people. Mercy, doesn't look that far on the map. MYER'S DUCATI 1125 Sweeten Creek Road Asheville, NC 28803 828-274-4271 BARNETT'S SUZUKI 1509 Lake Wheeler Rd. Raleigh, NC 27603 919-833-5575

The bike is at Winchester Motorsports and he's hoping it will be fixed before his daughters wedding.

Guzzbun, I see in your signature that you have a '96 Cali 1100i. Me too. Mine is anthracite and cream with 69,000 miles. What's yours?

And we thought a BMW was a Guzzi with sagging tits. Nice!

Speedbleeder makes bleed nipples with built in check valves. This makes the bleeding process a lot easier not having to open and close the nipple cyclically. There is teflon tape on the threads so bubbles can't get in that way. They also have a bleed bag complete with tube to connect to your bleed nipple. www.speedbleeder.com I believe the nipples are $7 apiece. My '02 Lemans takes (2) SB8125L for the front brakes and (1) SB1010S for the rear brake and (1) SB1010S for the clutch.

Keep popping those wheelies and you will eventually be looking for a rear bevel pinion. Ala Richard100t

Edge, If you are coming to the national that would be a great place to take orders. I'm definitely interested. I made the one with the dimensions but have yet to install it.

They are not talking about the United States of America, they are talking about the Green (Confused ) State of California. Don't give the other 49 a bad rap.

Put the bike on the back of a truck and bring it to the rally. You might get lucky. With 600 people there someone will say, "I know somebody who has a cousin who knows somebody who has a spine frame with an extra drivebox he's trying to give away."

To the above list I would add: 13, 17, 19, 22, 27 open end wrenches. (An excellent 22/27 combination box wrench is available from MG) A short piece of 14mm allen wrench stock to fit the axle bolt. From the Snap On allen wrench set I carry 8, 6, 5, 4, 2.5 A relay. I carry a combination phillips - flat screwdriver. The size for the alternator cover.

Rich's tool pouch is nice. I have one for each of my bikes. For $30 (when I got mine) it does not include any tools. The Italian tools are crap anyway. Get a set of metric Snap ON allen wrench ball drivers ($20) and fill out the rest with Craftsman.

Contact Todd Egan at Guzzitech and he will have the answer you want. He's the guru for Powercommanders for Guzzis. He can even set you up with the right map. www.guzzitech.com

You are disappointed too? I'm in the process of retrofitting a sealed beam headlight per Brian Robson's tip.

I got a call last night from a friend who recently bought a 2003 V11 LeMans. His low beam had burned out. While he was working on the bike he gave me a call. "I'm tearing into this bike according to the owners manual and I'm finding out that it is a major PITA to even get to the bulb. I've got the lower panel off and the screw off the bottom of the bulb housing. Nothing else looks like it needs to come off yet I can't get it apart. What do I need to do?" I said, "It's easier to remove the whole fairing in one piece. Six screws, disconnect the turn signal wires, and remove the mirrors and the fairing will come off." You could have heard a pin drop. So we're talking while he is removing the screws and mirrors. He had a little trouble with the turn signal connectors as somebody had tie-wrapped them to the frame. We spent the last half of our conversation while he was reinstalling the panel to the fairing while it was on the ground. We wrapped up the conversation by him saying he wished he had called before starting the job cause he would have been done an hour ago.

I think I've answered my own question. I put the sealed beam in the reflector and took a measurement with a pair of dial calipers. .785 inch. I then replaced the sealed beam with the original lense and took the same measurement. .720 inch. I need to machine .065 inch off the flange to get this light together.

Get a GPS and find out how optimistic your speedometer is at 125 mph. I think you will find it to be around 110 mph.

I know a guy who had to drain diesel from his Jackal year before last. They were at a gas station in WV or KY and the attendant was marveling the Guzzis. "Ain't never seen one of those before. As a matter of fact I ain't never seen any motocsickle that ran on diesel." Fortunately all Jerry had to do was drain the tank.

All my efforts of recent have been devoted to getting the bulb to go down that last millimeter into the reflector. I've cut down the inner flange to the point it is not interferring. The bulb is resting on the inner edge of the outer flange now and the rim will still not seat onto the clips. Those clips are a bitch! Did you have to grind down the outer flange as well?
-
I bought the headlight and am in the process of modifying the reflector to get the bulb to fit. I started off cutting the 3 notches illustrated. Bulb would not seat far enough to get the rim in place. More whittling. The automotive shop did not have the GE brand so I bought a Wagner. Same part number. Could there be enough difference in brands to make this fix work? I took some modeling clay to figure out where the bulb was hitting on the reflector. It was hitting on the inner rim that holds the gasket in place. More whittling. This definitely a job for a person who can accept frustration. I am at a point where I cannot go back and put it back together like it was. So it's this way or the $250 way. Good thing my hammers are under lock and key. Brian, Any suggestions?

I've heard hydrogen peroxide works well. I've used it on my windshield. It dissolves the bugs in just a couple minutes then wipe off. I polish it afterwards with Honda cleaner.

Here in southwest Ohio we call 'em Briars. There are a lot of briars who've transplanted to Ohio. Seems they go back to Kentucky almost every weekend. Do you know what a Buck Briar is? He is a child born of Briar parents mid-week. If he'd been born on the weekend he would be a full fledged Briar.
