  1. Thank you. Guess I'm not senile!
  2. I have three SB6100 bleeders that could use a good home. Cheap. I heard those work on some Beemers. Funny, I thought for sure I put a notice here about the right sizes for our bikes. Must have been on the other forum.
  3. They do.
  4. While we were on our BRP trip I had to replace the front tire. I found a Guzzi dealer in Asheville NC www.myersmotorcycle.com I got a Michelin Pilot Sport 120/70 for $127 and installed for $30 on the bike. I may have been able to get it done for less locally but I would have had to take the wheel to a tire shop. The local shop charges $25 for just the tire labor or $50 if it's on the bike. Very happy with the deal and service I got at Myers.
  5. The recommended maintenance procedure for our bikes suggest changing the filter every third oil change. That would give the filter 9,000 miles worth of sludge collection ability. With the conservativeness of maintenance recommendations I doubt the bypass would come into play at twice that mileage. Even with the bypass opened some or most of the oil is still going through the filter. I may be wrong but I believe that if your system pressure is 40 PSI and the cracking pressure of the bypass is 8 PSI then 32 psi or 80% of the oil is still going through the filter.
  6. I bought a set of front pads for my bike this week from a Guzzi dealer and, much to my dismay, found I could buy compatible pads from a Ducati dealer for about 75% of the price. I don't know what the part number is. A couple years ago I bought a front brake lever for less than half the Guzzi price at a Duc dealer but I did not think the case would be the same with a consumable like brake pads. Moral of the story. A lot of the parts on our bikes are generic. It pays to shop around before you buy. Buell turn signals for instance. I got a lense from a Guzzi dealer for $6 a couple weeks ago.
  7. Wrong. The bypass works on the principle of differential. A clean filter passes the oil easily and the pressure is essentially the same on both sides of the filter. Let's say your system pressure is 40 PSI at the inlet to the filter. A clean filter may cause a 3 PSI pressure drop. If you have a 25 PSI bypass there would be 25 PSI worth of spring holding the poppet closed and 3 PSI trying to open it. You would have 37 PSI downstream. As the filter collects sediment the 3 PSI will gradually increase to the point the bypass opens. Even at that point some of the oil will still be going through the filter
  8. I think your tail light socket is plastic too. Have you made a decision about the VA rally?
  9. When I did Tmartin's procedure a couple years ago I found the full mark to be about right with the bike on the sidestand WITHOUT the dipstick screwed in.
  10. Smearing some oil or grease on that seal will go a long way towards preventing that from happening again.
  11. Sounds like the same system I have on my California. That screw goes into a retainer clamp. Once the screw is loosened (yours is) the bottom of the bezel can be pried out. You might need to do a little persuading with the back end of a screwdriver.
  12. When I checked mine they did not need it.
  13. It's a piece of cake. Antisieze paste on the pan screws. Sidestand screws do not need to come off. A light coating of oil on the pan gasket facing the crankcase makes it easy to remove the next time. I permatex the gasket to the pan to make sure the gasket comes down with the pan. My 96 California 1100i has 60,000 miles (read 20 filter changes) and I'm still on the original gaskets. Same deal with the rocker boxes.
  14. Used to see wire mesh lense protectors. Wonder if one is around this size. I seem to recall they just snap over the shell.

    givi bags

Good looking set up. My HB bags are quite a ways forward. My wife has her thighs against the top front of the bags. There is also only about 2 inches of space behind the footpegs. I would be afraid of having all that weight that far back. We seriously overload the bags on trips. We just got back from a 1875 mile trip. I would guess we had 35 pounds in each bag and our 40 pound camping kit was mounted on the tail rack in place of the trunk. Worked great.
  16. Have not had another failure since I started carrying my Karma Spring. To be honest, I don't see how it could possibly fix an oversized boss. If it happens again at least I'm prepared.
  17. May I suggest making a washer to fill the space while your helmet is not there. Put the washers in your pocket to remind you to remove the helmet before flight.
  18. Auto Zone Mobil 1 M1-102 for around $11.00 They also have the 3/8 drive socket wrench for around $4.00. It's cheap but fits snugly and works.
  19. I found one in each universal and one in the shaft.
  20. Last night I removed the rear tire to get a new one. I took this opportunity to grease the driveshaft. I bought a "Lubrimatic" grease swivel at Ace Hardware for around $15. I rotated the shaft to where the zerk was positioned up. I tilted the swivel til it was around 45 degrees. The set up is long enough to reach through the tunnel in the swingarm. Greasing was a piece of cake. Tonight I'll put the tire on and try the cardboard method.
  21. Al Glad I read your response about the clutch bleeder or I would have put the original back in place. Thanks.
  22. Hi neighbor. Our bikes do not care for hard accelleration below 5000 RPM. Doesn't hurt them a bit to downshift to get that 5000 mark.
  23. Looks like you caught that just in time. I should be following you around hoping some of that luck would rub off.

    relay

Bosch relay is the way to go. Do a search on Bosch and you will find perhaps 200 posts on the subject. Go to www.guzzitech.com and you will find information there as well.
  25. "Sigh" The bills are starting to stack up. House needs a new roof. The gas company turned off my gas today and left me a note saying I had an "unsafe condition" meaning I have to replace the gas line from the street to the meter. $1500. We'll be using the microwave and Pizza Hut for a couple days and taking cold showers. I predict to wife to say, "Put off the roof, fix the gas, and for Gods sake get a new tire. I want to ride. I bought you that bike. The least you could do is keep it in new shoes." What a woman.
