  1. I was thinking of doing that with the streetbob, I like a little crome on the engine to make it stand out but the rest of the bike blacked almost as a shrine to the ol' lump. they looked at me like I Was crazy when I was like yeah these upgraded pipes are nice, where can I get'em blacked out? tho I haven't gone that route I don't think I can afford(or convince myself) to get a harley for a lil bit yet. :huh2:

Yeah they are a lot of cash for the bike you get, but that blacked out Sporty is under 10k, so I can at least justify thinking about it. Ideally I would like to set up the Guzzi as a dedicated sport-tour bike, then get something else to thrash day to day.

  2. I've had an awful hard time forgetting the new blacked out Harley Nightster lately...set of blacked out pipes and Buell heads, and it could be a pretty fun tire smoker. :bike:

  3. I had the same problem. If the bags are off, like mine were, you can just take the lock assembly apart and remove it altogether. Maybe not the most secure, but that's what I ended up doing. :huh2:

  4. I have no plans to sell the V11, but I will be getting another bike to try and keep some of the mileage off of the Tenni. Just can't decide which bike! I've narrowed it down a bit:

    -newer Guzzi California Vintage

    -'nother V11 (sport maybe?)

    -Duc GT1000 :P:

-Kawisaki's new 1400 Ninja looks fun

-BMW somethin or nuther. That new 1200 looks nice.

    -Buell Ulysses

This isn't going to end well...I'm already planning on a bigger garage.

  5. I just bought Nolan's N102 to replace my HJC. Worlds better, but not perfect. I had to by an XL due to a narrow front to back fit, which left it just a little looser than I'd like, but not too bad. That's not the helmets fault though, since they all fit a bit different. My only complaint: the draft that funnels its way onto your face is really pretty annoying in cold weather. Otherwise, I'm happy with it so far and assume I can get thicker padding to address the fit issues. :mg:

  6. Summit Racing sells some vintage looking (not quite like the Veglia, but similar) gauges that are self calibrating and electronic. I'm thinking about swapping now that my tach is starting to act up. Not a perfect solution, but seems to be the best option I've found. :huh2:

  7. don't mean to hijack, but am having some trouble with my nuetral light also (scura). sometimes when pulling up to a stop light and I down shift to nuetral, the nuetral light doesn't come on (no big deal...been happening since I bought it). But now, if I put down the the kickstand it kills the motor (don't remember that happening, could be going senile though). Also, sometimes the light doesn't work even from a cold start. Other times the light works just fine.

so to get to the question???

where is the switch on the gear shifter you guys are talking about? I know about the switch on the kickstand, which I clean periodically. but I don't see any electrics on the shift lever.

appreciate the help. also, stormedge, might meet you at Kirts sometime so we can head over to a coffee shop.

The nuetral switch is kind of above and behind the shift lever, and (I think) you have to pull the starter cover off to get to it. On mine, it's got a violet wire running to it. Real easy to get at.

  8.

I use a jack stand on the right swingarm pivot, a car jack on the left to lift it off the kickstand, then a 2x6 under said kickstand to keep everything level. NOT the best way...I'm sure I'm asking for disaster sooner or later. :o

I'm a little apprehensive wrt Harbor Freight's stuff-I had a sandblaster who's regulator blew off and flew across the garage the first time I pressurized it. But, for stuff like a bike lift I'm sure it should be just fine. :bier:

  9. Yeah, my Aprilia top box mount broke a weld and spent around 800 miles or so digging a quarter-sized hole into the tail cowling on the Tenni before I noticed it. Good times. I figure I'll just paint the whole damn thing in a few years vice trying to get a 'perfect' match for blending. :homer:

  10. FWIW, we use the nitrogen in aircraft tires 'cause it's more stable WRT temp changes and doesn't develop moisture like O2 that can cause corrosion. Also supposed to hold pressure longer. All this is, of course, on aircraft tires running 100-175 PSI, so don't know how or if those benefits transfer to a car tire running 35 PSI. :huh2:

  11. I have to stick with the 916 on looks alone. Absolutely one of the best looking/sounding bikes around. I loved looking at my 748R, but that went away in about 85 miles...unbelievably painful bike to live with day to day.

That's why I love my V11; alomst as good looking, and infinitley more liveable. :mg:

  12. 170 is the number I've always heard...the price is about right. That's really a low number if you think about it. In comparison, in 1963 they made only 2250 or so Mercury Comet S-22 convertibles (one of which I own as well) and that's considered fairly rare. That being said, these cars command a little over 3 grand over a regular car, so it's not that far outta whack I think.

  13. The BMW's are nice, but the BIG deciding factor for me happens when you mash the starter button. The BMW sounds, umm, kinda cheesy to me. Really lame, actually. :mg:

As far as ergos, comfort, etc... I think the Goose is fine. Of course with any bike, it takes a little conditioning (and some rubber hose on the foot pegs) before your body will allow any real mileage. Personally I've covered 10,000 this year with no real problems, and range/reliability has been great. Around 75-85 mph on the highway gets me around 170-180/tank, and that number goes way up if you drop the speed down to around 60.

It's all wind in the face, after all, but I'm a bit partial to the LeMans in the end.

  14. you can borrow my bike, I have barely put on 3k this season, school and work have been brutal, changing careers sucks.

    hopefully it pays off. :2c:

Well admittedly, that's 20k total. I bought the biked with 9k, so I guess that's around eleven thousand for the year. Either way, I feel your pain.
