  1. And now, for a bodge relating to the Guzzi, I found out today that my Aprillia top box mount has broken three welds. The end result? I just noticed this morning that I have a 1" diameter, 1/8" deep hole dug in to the back of my tail cowling. Good times for a Tenni owner, as I'll prolly have to have the whole damn thing re-done after I fix the 'glass damage. Good times...all I'm trying to do is break 20k miles this year. S#@t.

  2. I had a Porsche 914 that I re-did back in high school. When I installed the carpet kit, I secured the carpet to the firewall with beautiful button-head stainless screws...that went right into the front mounted gas tank. All twenty-four of them. Sure enough, three hours later I had an entire floorpan full of a nasty gasoline/tar soundproofing molotoff cocktail. Way to go.

  3. I sort of manufactured my own, using a 3"(about) piece of hollow nylon spacer with rubber grommets around it, and an allen head thru-bolt with a nut on the end holding the whole taco together. The idea being that the grommets were a little longer than the nylon spacer, allowing some flex for vibes once the thru bolt was snugged down. I got all the pieces at Home Depot and did it in the parking lot, since it broke on me halfway between San Diego and here.

There's probably a better/easier way to do this, but I tend to overbuild stuff, and I haven't had a problem in 10,000 miles since. :huh2:

  4. Ummm, don't know how to tell you this. but have you been to a BMW site? yeah I think you should go check some out. Then you come back here and compare. I think BMW's get wayyyyyyy more bad press, they are just a MUCH larger company. MUCH larger. like comparing BMW cars to saabs. Hard to do. :huh2:

good luck with your BMW, lets hope she doesn't spew her oil.

MG has its warranty issues(as of late) but at least they don't try and blame you for everything.

Yeah, they'd much rather just ignore your phone calls and blow off your dealer. :)

  5. Dr Gil: Just you come check it out Saturday (10/7) at the NorCal "Guzzi by the Sea". This should psyche you for some rainy weekend in the garage...

As for the eagles, IMHO this bike is crawling with the things. Enough! My own spouse says "What's with the Eagles, is this trying to be a Harley?". Would that I could say Guzzi had 'em first, but all I can say is the Italians probably weren't paying attention, or thought Harley used a turkey. Anyway, I kept the Eagle, in fact I removed some grunge from the chrome plate - just be really, really careful.

I periodically wipe the headers with Micro Mesh 8000/12000 when the blue gets bad. It rapidly reacquires the nice faux titanium brown patina. Flexible, really fine sandpaper, pricey, but lasts a long time and beats steel wool in my opinion. Check micro-surface.com, I get mine from the local Rockler woodworking shop.

What's this Guzzi by the Sea business? Where might this be happening? I'm about a 4 hour ride from the Bay Area...might be worth taking the ride.

  6. I dunno. I ride mine every day, but it means I spend a lot of time looking things over as well. This thing acts like the helicoptors I work on-the more you run it, the better she behaves. It's when it sits for a month or two that I see gremlins. On the flip side, I can certainly see why you'd not want to run it into the ground. Hell, just ride the damn thing. Parts are out there. :bike:

  7. I have the FBF setup, and my only complaint is with the taillight- it's almost worthless. It helps to do a little "aiming" to try and get the LED's at the right angle, but there just aren't enough LED's in there IMO. Part of that is that the turn signals (stock) really overpower the smaller taillight. I'll probably fix this this winter. :huh2:

  8. Buttercup Rocks!

    As does the Ninja 650R

Yup those are both nice bikes-if the new 650 rides anything like the old 500, I'd want another one. Good buy! Ditto on the suspension, but with a little attention (sound familiar?)...
