Stucci x-over finish/color - a long-term match?
Janusz replied to al_roethlisberger's topic in Technical Topics
The funny thing is that I just noticed RUST on my X-over. What kind of stainless steel it is which rusts? The rest of stock exhaust - not even a speck of rust. -
Sorry to contradict you Carl but IMO if there is one original accessory for our bikes which is the best in quality and design that must be that stand. Why look for anything more if you have a perfection right here? What i like the most is that it lifts the bike at the side plates and not by the swingarm. This way you can easily service not the wheel only but the whole rear suspension. also the additional prop lifts your front wheel in an elegant and simple way. The build quality is to the highest order too. And there is a nice MG sticker too .

In the meantime try doing what I am doing and as a result my nuts are still sharp as new ; I always smear some thick oil on them and the stand seats.

Thanks. Something is wrong then since my average mileage is 7.9 l/100 km or 29.8 m/US gal or 35.8 m/Imp.gal. Stock pipe, Panel K&N in a stock airbox and Power Commander with stock map. Granted, I ride kind of hard comparing to some other people and live 1500 ft above town but the mileage is really bad. The bike runs perfect otherwise though. But the gas bills are killing me,HELP!

The inside of my exhaust ends is covered with a black but dry soot. Whenever I touch it with my finger it's solidly covered with it. Is that normal? My gas mileage is not very good (30 mpg) and I am afraid I might run too rich. Please help.

I was always able to take side panels easily (they are black by the way, not silver ) but come to think of it my tank was always off then. My panels were stress cracked from day one right where the top fasteners are. I noticed later that on most of the other bikes, including new on the showroom floor, were the same cracks. Factory overtorques? My dealer got me brand new panels under warranty, no questions asked. The factory warranty on body panels expires after 6 months, be careful then.

For all it's worth I think that a too bright headlight masks your turn signals sometimes. That might turn out a bigger safety hazard then a brighter headlight benefit.

See if the lever is not too low. If it is you can adjust it.

My V11S uses (burns I assume, there is no leak anywhere) some oil from day one and does not seem to stop even now at 18,000 km. It is not much, maybe 1/2 liter every 4,000 km (one quart every 4.500 miles). Is that something to be concerned with? Do your engines use any oil?

All you need to do is take a gas tank off and a sctewdriver and small hammer does an easy job. Do not forget dabble some oil between the ring/spring as per Shop Manual. The factory wrench is totally useless.

"pinging" when accelerating/Use of moly in gear bo
Janusz replied to RichMaund's topic in Technical Topics
It's pretty easy to tell what is too rich and what is too lean if your bike is running well before you install the Power Commander. Pay attention to your throttle openings and RPM. It's really easy to do, just takes some patience. Could you please elaborate a bit to make me (OK, I am not ashamed to admit I do not know how to tell just by riding if it is too rich or too lean) understand and be able to tell? I am sure there would be others to benefit. Thanks. -
Anybody could suggest what is the best to use on these rubber parts to keep them in good shape longer? Would silicon spray be good?

That will not work since our computer is 15M not the old 16M. You cannot open and change 15M so readily. The best way is PCIII. -
The dealer i bought my bike from is a very good one - I think the best and most knowledgeable mechanic I ever saw (in Chilliwack, not Vancouver by the way), but my general rule is not to trust or depend on anybody anyway. I servce, modify and repair all my vehicles myself. The very first service (1,000 km) was done by the dealer though since he did it for free and I was present all the way. Anyways he set up everything to factory specs on the Guzzi software except valves .15/.20 (.006/.008 for metrically challenged) and the bike run perfectly since day one. I switched to all synthetic Mobil 1 15/50 and this new wonder Redline stuff in tranny and Redline also but regular synthetic gear oil in rear end. It run even smoother. Next K&N panel filter did nothing noticeable but Stucchi x-over did a miracle of getting rid of this 4000RPM valley completely. But I seemed to have lost a closed throttle 3,000 RPM and below smoothness. Power Commander III came in and with a stock map seemed to run even smoother generally and +2 clicks (4%?) at lo and +1 at mid made it run excellent so I left good enough alone. That is all what I remember more or less. All the rest is stock. I am amazed with a constant engine improvement with mileage even now at 17,000 km. It even seems to be louder and better sound - is that possible or just a wishful thinking?

As I mentioned in other thread my bike runs perfectly when under way always but nevertheless after a god run and stopped for a short break it will stall on occasion after start up. But then fires right away on a second try - never failed that. All my emission canisters were removed when new together with rubber hoses and valves and all that garbage on the first day of ownership after I noticed a strong vacuum build up in the tank.

Just to make sure you guys do not loose hope (seems everybody has this problem) I would like to report that my bike runs perfectly (17,000 km since new) and never stumbled, hiccuped or missed a beat. So it is possible

Just for the record I'd like to say that my bike not only NEVER pinged but it is impossible to make it ping even if you want to. And yes, I am very familiar with what the pinging is on a variety of engines. So how does it fit with the above theory? I just think that if it is properly tuned as it should be then it will not ping. -
The holes under cap ARE NOT FOR VENTING but for overflow draining. Your cap is good, get rid of pollution stuff and valve under tank.

OK, now I know what I will do with my exhaust to bring out a proper sound. I want something along the lines of an open exhaust without any consideration for a noise regulations etc. The reason I can do that is twofold; firstly, if Harley guys can do that why not me and secondly, I do not ride in the city too much, use my bike for entertainment only and my neighbours are far away and don't care. The only consideration is I do not want to loose any performance but having Power Commander already I think that'll be easy. I would imagine some kind of nice looking end cans only would be the best and I would keep my stock cans after all just in case if I really wanted to revert to stock for a while which, having PC, would be a snap. I consider getting another set of stock mufflers (take offs) really cheap from my dealer and totally gutting them but maybe somebody will have any better suggestion, please? Does anybody make open pipes for our bikes?

In my opinion nothing, absolutely nothing beats an original Moto Guzzi paddock stand meant for V11S/LeMans/Scura bikes. Firstly its nicely made and painted red to match the frame . On more serious side it fits well under the side plates, is easy to use and lifts the whole rear of the bike which, on top of tire changes enables you to set your rear sag easily, disassemble all swingarm, shaft drive etc in a case of need. It also comes with a neat engine prop which lifts your front suspension easily. I would never consider any other stand for my bike.

I had some kind of Gel Grips installed on my bike since new to lessen vibration. Then I installed my Napoleon bar end mirrors and vibration was not an issue anymore. So recently I reinstalled the factory grips (they were not damaged - taken off the bar using compressed air. Nice trick I learned from my dealer) and surprise! ; the feel of the road through the front wheel and grips is BACK. I did not realize how big difference it makes. There is a reason road racers never use soft grips and no manufacturer installs these on a performance bike. Now I feel so much more secure riding aggresively...Give all the soft grips to Harley riders and other poseurs.

Hello, callison, out of all the bikes listed in your signature which one do you like the most and why?
-
The rearmost relay controls pump, coils and injectors. Carry one or two spares (Bosh of course) and you'll be immune to further troubles of this nature, Brent.

It happened again today: I hit a false neutral. They are not very frequent but I would have one say every 1,000 km on average. Mostly on upshift fron 2nd to 3rd. Maybe when I am somewhat sloppy on upshift but then no, it normally never happened with my other bikes before. Do you guys experience that? What might be the reason or a possible remedy? What is the best course of action when it happens at speed; I always slow down and upshift again; would going down back to 2nd be better?

OK, it seems almost clear now and sorry for being so nagging. To everybody who answered - big thank you . The only thing which is hard to believe is that somebody who designed official ShopManual and Owners Manual would be so careless or lazy that did not delete or modify this safety related paragraph. That really undermines my trust in Moto Guzzi official literature.
