As I mentioned before if you first check for misaligned gasket blocking the vent you'll be able to avoid drilling. Costs you nothing.

IMO Napoleons look the best by countrymile. Besides they're exact copy of classic bar end mirrors, especially Italian. Because of their weight these are the only mirrors which effectively kill vibration too. To mount them I asked my friendly machinist to cut a thread directly in the moddle of removable, stock end weights. Next I asked him to cut a 1/2 inch deep slot inside the weight to acommodate the Napoleon "insert". The mirrors simply bolt directly to so modyfied bar end weights; of course you discard all the expandable part of mirror mounting assembly.

I completely forgot about Stucci x-over writing my list; it is wonderful, totally agree.
-
My personal list of mods which satisfy me the most: 1 - Napoleon bar end mirrors mounted at the bar ends (doh). Kill vibration, add to safety since you can USE them and enhance beautifully the retro look of the bike. 2 - Redline Heavy Shockproof gearoil in both boxes. The quality of shifting has to be experienced to be believed. 3 - Factory shop stand. Greatly helps in bonding with the bike. 4 - Open airbox, good cans and PC-III. The sound alone is worth it. 5 - $10 watch which looks like at least $200 one and matches Veglia instruments perfectly. Double taped to a big nut top in front of the gas tank. 6 - Spare front half of the front fender and spare passenger seat cover - both red plus Stucci flyscreen. Now I can modify my bike look in many ways. Tremendously adds to my vanity. 7 - All the emission stuff and gravity valves removed and sent to the garbage bin. Great satisfaction of poking up the nose of bad politicians.
-
On the other hand not ALL Veglia instruments suffer that malady. Mine are perfect for the third year now. That proves that the engineering is correct, just the assembly happens to be wrong sometimes and does not vent properly, I suspect. Before drilling I would look for a rubber ring misaligned or something of that sort.

I don't have any doubt that Stucci x-over eliminates a dreadful 4,000 RPM dip. All you need to do is swap them and just go for a ride.
-
I have the same set up, callithrix, except stock pistons. Which map are you going to use?
-
Also, if callithrix rode the bike stock for some time, maybe even dyno it and THEN installed new pistons we would have a really good insight what these pistons are good for in a objective, "scientific" way.
-
After all what do they know at Moto Guzzi factory; all they do is make these bikes.
-
I went for: Stucci X-over, open box, Ferraci carbon slip-ons, PC with the map copied from Todd. The loudest, meanest sound possible, faultless carburation (I did some peresonalized tweaking and it is perfect, really is) and I can still keep my Techno bags!

I also think that this religion will die out very soon because in 5 years nobody will carry non-synthetic oil. You will have to special order it. Like an abacus.
-
And also: All these questions and answers re "When To switch To Synthetic" do not have any sense since all our bikes WERE FILLED WITH SYNTHETIC AT THE FACTORY! And that is what factory recommends from day one. Some religious people never stop.
-
I think that one could easily discard all teoretical ramblings and just try the simplest and therefore most elegant solution already recommended by Ferraci; Next time when you have your tank off just unscrew the airbox top and put it on the shelf. Then ride the bike and see if you like it. I did. If you do not like it you can always install your airbox top back. If you see clearly that it is an obvious improvement (most likely scenario) then you get from ferraci the brackets preventing your filter from flying off, inrease fuelling with PC and just enjoy better sound and performance.

Let me also add that in my opinion our engine is such a fantastic machine at the pinnacle of a pushrod two valve twin development just because it retains these characteristics. And no hydraulic valves for me please. If you redo it into four valves you will gain some power at the top revs at the expense of low and mid torque hence driveability. Why do it? It will never be able to compete with water cooled modern four anyways and you end up with a bastard good at nothing. Not fish nor fowl. Why do it?

I just looked up in my Parts Manal and the offending part is 04 21 49 00 and in their pidgin engglish they call it "Moveable Hose 3-5-4-6" - (shift sleeve)?. In German Beweglich Muffe or in Italian Manicotto Scorrevole. It looks like a ring with cutouts installed on the lower layshaft between 4th speed gear and 6th speed gear. My bike # is ZGUKRAKR61M113782. Anybody would know if it is affected?(MY 2001)
-
All that worries me. Should I then stop riding because locking the wheel at speed really sounds deadly. Will you guys stop riding until repaired? Anybody?
-
But Lex, read the first post again. Your bike (and mine) were model 2001 maybe but still built before April 01 and therefore affected by the recall. But also the other part of the recall info specifies model 2000 only. So finally it is hard to tell what do they mean.
-
Automatic transmission?? Only 680 affected? They must have build more then that between Oct '99 and Apr '00. And why model year 2000 only? Does not make sense. My bike is MY2001 but was made Sept. 5th , 2000.

There are still reasons for factory to recommend a synthetic oil to all after 1999 bikes. You just found one of them yourself. I am only trying to help.
-
Why would anybody switch to non-synthetic oil in the first place? This engine is designed for a synthetic oil only and that is what the factory recommends.
-
All who experience bad wear/handling ; is it possible that suspension is not set properly up? I know that the original tires on my bike (BT57?) scalopped badly but that was on factory settings and springs which sucked.
-
On v11S the front lasts 10,000 km,rear 8,000 of aggresive riding. The last 1,500 km is low on thread so I do not ride in the rain .
-
I am on a third set of just 010 (160/60 rear) and have no problem with scalloping whatsoever, excellent grip and handling, quite acceptable longevity (although the wear is not consideration for me at all). Did you ever try 010 front AND rear, it means no mixing? Don't you think that might be a simple solution of your quest? Sometimes the practice defies any theory, no matter how logical.

I tried a few times but was unable to get it from Guzzitech. Everything seems fine until the computer starts connecting me to AOL ... anyway I was not succesful. Could you send it to Jap?
