BUMP... BUMP, cant believe no one here has played with there Ohlins in order to get the bike set up beter, come on who did what to the std settings?
-
Great idea... the replica built for the movie was raced up against Aussies fastest Indian last year, bloody awesome sound.
-
thanks for that 02v11, I wounder how many shells there were then.
-
So whos keen to post up the settings they use with Ohlins? I just cant quite get it right... close but no cigar. I ride hardish, lots a hill work and touring. one up, sometimes with a load on.

OK Just got the missus pissed and stole the book from her, I found this interesting info in it. Burt built a second motor for an American enthusiast who bought the streamliner in 1975, it wasnt the fast engine though, he built one up out of spares Irving and Norman Hayes (NZ) bought the original bikes when Burt packed it in, he quit when he could no longer read his micrometer and the settings on his lathe Hayes brothers were mates of Burts, the original streamliner is in the states with a Burt Munro built Indian engine, but its not the engine he raced and set records with. The original bikes are on display down south somewhere in NZ Burt also had a Velocette that posted a 132.35 mph on a beach and set a new beach record, his one regret was he never took the Velo to the salt flats So I stand corected, the body work you swow in the pics over there may just be the real thing however the engine is buit from spares.

Something just isn't quite right here since the pics of this Munro bike were posted I have been asking questions as someting just dosn't quite add up Now Lex I am not trying to be a wanker here, but from what I have learned there is and has only ever been one Munro Indian... and it in NZ not the US. Now this is only what I have been told by several people buggered if I know but Munro started with one Indian and finished with one Indian...
-
no... she wont give it to me till I do the dishes and hang the washing out Thanks for that info, now I might have to admit defet and do some house work as I wana read that book.
-
velocette! what velocette?
-
Thank's for that Lex, The missus has just scored the book so after she has read it Ill pinch it from her and have a read... it covers the hole time period that he spent to and fro. Darryl

Ohhh yeah sorry, Well the bikes went well on 98 however it was cold and very wet... I have only had problems on very hot days and nailing it in the hills, this ride was flat all the way. Last w/e I had the Guz at the local track, I was wanting to try avgas but was warned off it, so I went for 98 (remember 98 in NZ is imported were as 91/95 is made here and is as shitty as fuel can get) I mixed a high grade octain booster with it and dont think that it made that much of a differance it should have raised the oct too 100. However the bike did not pink once, but thats not a good example as I was keepin the poor thing in the high rev range well over were it might pink. This Sunday weather permiting I'm looking at a ride over the local hills, if so Ill try the booster again and I will know if it makes a differance... then I'll report back, again.

Yeah I have reduced the side stand rubber and after that slid happening I removed the stand, comming to think of it the sport I am sure I removed it on aswell. The V11 has Ohlins and I'm quite happy with the set up, what I think happened is that I had been on my bucket racer the race before were I dont need to hang off so much and I'm thinking I fotrgot to slide of the seat on the V11. The thing I find interesting is the V11 wears the name LeMans, which in times gone have been the sportiest of Guzzie's there race bikes. Now The 1100i sport I had handled the track real well, but I am a tad disapointed in the V11... but I have to remember these to bikes are set up for differant purposes... the V11 is a sport tourer the 1100 sport is just a sports bike, well as far as MG is concerned. At the end of the day, I had a blast on all bikes... how have any of you otheres found the V11 on the track
-
Well Had my 1st chance at the track on the V11 last weekend. now in the past I have had my VTR1000 and MG 1100i Sport out there, and both bikes went rather well, well the VTR would as its Jap right Now The MG1100i sport was awesome, it loved the track and I never had any probs with it. The V11, well this was interesting, kinda lacks a bit of ground clearance on the left aye came around a fast kink on the back straight and ground the stand into the deck, this put me into a two wheel drift, the bike seat now has a permament pinch mark in it This would happen once in a while on the Sport but I modified the stand and it limited the prob, but its way worse on the V11. the power is great on the V11 like the sport not a lot for a 1100 but what it has is usable and is great for rocketing ya out of a corner, and down the straight the V11 winds out well During the day I was racing my two bucket racers, which have race pattern gear boxs... the V11 dosent so as I enterd the main straight at full noise and feed it the fat I changed down NOT up... poor bloody Guzzi, but it took t well. I also had a fang on a R6 Yamy very fast but... no class Also the Missus Buell XB12R man that was awesom, it would run rings around the MG but even tho it has 20hp more I reckon there was nothing between them on the straight. anyway thats how I found the V11 LeMans on the track, hoped for beter but alas its not a race bike now is it PS: will put up V11 pics when I get them.

Correct they are engines built to the same specs as Burts, there were also Ducati powered bikes built and used as the running bikes in the movie, duno were they are now tho.
-
IIRC the movie was based on Burts 1st trip or two to the US, and he visited there for a 9yr period... so I'm thinking that the engine and bike that is in NZ is that bike, I have never seen the body work you have there so I'd say that that bike is his later creation, give it back ya bugger got any more pic's?
-
Thanks guys, I have local made cans on the bike, so they will not be an issue, how ever I am concerned with the 02 sencer. I'm only looking at a max of 100k's and fast k's at that, so unless someone else says NO then... I might try it.
-
Lex, thats awesome to read, cheers for that. Heres a link of the bikes used in the movie from a BEAR's meet local here last year http://community.webshots.com/album/296325135CUQmiB I havent seen the bikes you posted, tell me more about them, are they copys or the real thing... as the origanal bike is here in NZ, and dosent look like that one of yours, its not red... its rusty as.
-
Next w/e at the local track theres a have a go day, now I.m wanting to take the V11 for a strop around. In the past I have run Avgas 100+oct which is a leaded fuel in the VTR1000 and 1100i sport, IMO I reckon the bikes ilke the extra bang mainly in the mid range. Now my 04 V11 hand book says do NOT use a leaded fuel..... I expect due to the oxy sencer in the cross over. Am I safe to use this fuel for a day at the track or will the bike get a shit on with me and play up???
-
WTF??? Ok so what the ell are you lot on about?
-
hehehe... funny Jim, hey so report back once you have seen it and tell us ya thoughts.
-
Ahh yeah they do to, but is there an after market brand as I'm thinking that Guzzi OEM would be rather dear. love a c/f hugger the most as it would match the frount guard.
-
Well, time to do a few personal touchs to the Guz. Is there anywere that you can get a carbon fiber hugger? what about the side covers, I have noticed that some modles have them std but MG parts wouldent be cheap aye. Also..... the dash mount, I have seen these on some modles too, are they real c/f or plastic? Ok on my last bike (VTR 1000) I replaced the indercators with clear lenses and orange bulbs... is this replacement possible on a V11, as in are they available? cheers ya all

Ahhhhhhhh... the good old Kiwi fruit....... hey believe it or not but the last fruit looks a lot like me
-
Hey let me know what ya find aye, does ring bells, and are very keen on the topic Cheers man I'm trying, I'm trying........
-
Hey no worries man, you own a V50, guess if ya cant handle a real Guzzi then... well..... spose you wouldent reconise a decent movie if it bit ya in the arse...... Just in case you missed it here it is again PS: Buells rock Have a 12R
-
Well it dosent suprise me that a few of you yank types dident like the movie that much..... 1st of all its done in kiwi humour, without any offence ment some of you guys just wont get it.... hell down south were the movie was based even me being in the same island thinks that them down ther are all related and thick as a brick shit house, but they have a very simple way at looking at things.... this is what Bert Munro did... hell how many of you at 60+yrs could make a piston from scrap and a conrod from a bull dozer track with next to no tooling and in the room that he slept.... and make the fuking thing beat a record that isent broken today. 2nd..... well a old bastard kiwi chap used a well built yank bike and made it do what no american could do.... he kicked ya arse and for some people thats hard to swollow.... just like the fact that a kiwi nutter by the name of Price beat the Write brothers to flight..... but Price did it in his back yard were SFA could see it, and it was not docomented so the world thinks that the USA was 1st to do the old powered flight thing..... sorry guys
