I was life threatened the other day.
Keith Foster replied to Alex-Corsa's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Sorry to hi-jack the thread Alex, but I too have always appreciated a good knife, mainly folding pocket knives. When I traveled to Minneapolis I would visit the Mall of America and there used to be a good knife store there, alas it closed several years ago. One thing I have always been interested in is a good sharpening method/knowledge. So what tips or techniques do you use? I am partial to water stones. Are the various guides/jigs sold useful? -
It's a tight fit between the housing of the speedo and the mounting bracket that it fits through. I don't see how you could get a clamp on it and then reassamble. Maybe the idea is to clamp it up after fitting it through the mounting bracket. Then the outer cover mounts to the studs which loads the housing in tension, seems tricky, best of luck.

Hi Fred, I've just been through the same scenario you are having. See this thread: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...pid=110773& I got my replacement fairly quickly (a relative term) from my dealer (Speed's Cycles) here in Maryland. I'm sure they would be happy to sell another one. , but that defeats the purpose of trying to do a repair. Dismantling tips appreciated! Regards.

Well it's a late update but FWIW I'm back in business. The correct MPH/KPH reading speedo showed up on Nov.22nd and I installed it in early December so all's good for another ah... 10K ? MG PN 000017624900 if you are interested, cheers.

In an evil twist of Italian irony...tonight I finally get around to swapping out the old and new units. I take a good look at them side by side and lo and behold... the frigg'in new one is a KILOMETER ONLY instrument!! WTF well, back to the drawing board (and send this thing back to Speed's Cycles. It looks like I will be reading Mr. Orwig's article - thanks Greg.

FYI - this week I received a new speedometer I ordered from Speed's Cycles, Guzzi #01761560 It arrived in 2 weeks basically. It set me back $215.85 w/shipping+tax. In all not too bad.

He lives in the Philadelphia, PA area. A guy I know (multiline dealer owner) got some tranny parts frpm him for a project bike last summer.

I ordered up my set, good timing as I was beginning to shop new skins for my worn out Stradas. If the pic is what will be delivered they will be Diablo Corsas. FWIW, I have gotten nearly 12K miles out of the Stradas. As usual for me the rear is going first.

For me the coolest would be the Brake tech composite/ceramic discs. An awful price tag, but man are they light.

>From Dolores we travelled up Hwy 145, which follows the old RGS rail line over Lizard Head Pass to Telluride and Placerville. What a small world - barely two weeks ago I was on the same stretch of highway, going from Telluride to Placerville, through the same construction and such. I was on a dual sport (Honda CRF450X), nursing along a KTM LC4 with a broken clutch cable. At Placerville we stopped at (I love the name) a shop named "To-Hell-You Ride" Motorsports in search of a replacement cable. The vistas out west are beautiful

Greg, can you elaborate on "could not be easier"? Due to my recently misfunctioning odometer I'm trying to get into the case now. I see the pins on the underside of the rim, I push on them gently, nothing; then harder, still nothing; harder still, no dice. Being plastic they are deformed a little, but nothing gives. Did you use a hammer to tap on them? Do the pins actually move or do you drive them through and clear them out, like punching out a rivet? I don't want to bust anything up at this point, your advice appreciated. Hi Paul, I might be needing a replacement speedo. The ebay link of your post is out of date now it seems, but if you see them listed again please PM me, thanks.

It looks like I will be doing this myself soon. FYI I checked with Palo Alto Speeometer today on a repair for my '04 Nero. It went like this: Hi Palo Alto Speedometer: I have a 2004 Moto Guzzi LeMans and the odometer quit working yesterday. The speedometer is working OK, but the trip meter/odometer does not work. I understand the instruments on the later year Moto Guzzi’s are made by ITT instead of the earlier Veglia’s. So, I wanted to confirm that you guys can repair/work on this before I sent it to you and get a ball park cost. Let me know, regards. PA Speedo's reply by Hartmut Mees: I am sorry but we are not able to get parts for the 2004 Moto Guzzi instruments. We have tried several times to repair these, but without parts there is no reliable repair possible. I am not sure who to recommend you to, sorry. Thank you for asking. Bummer Anybody got a plan B?

I've been itching to go to this show for years, maybe I can fit it in.
-
You have it right, they went away from the alternating year thing. Maybe it had something to do with somebody needing to book the new exposition hall in Milano

FWIW - I would like to, but I have two work trips that month already. I won't even ask SWMBO.....

Go for the latest model you can find, travel to get it. The later models ('03,'04's) have better build quality and less chance for the earlier problem areas (relays, paint, instruments, external fuel pumps, bearing spacer issues, shift spring, speedometer cable, ahhh anything else?) to arise. Hunt, watch ebay, watch this site, trader online, network - they pop up.

What Martin said - exactly - WOW, beautiful!!

Don't let your Moto Guzzi garage with a Superhawk...

Nice job, good color match too. How about a front on shot? -
FWIW, there is a Corbin on EBAY up for bid for the V11 Sports as we speak......

I have a set of these from Aaron installed, for a year and a half now I think. I do have a small spot where exhaust seeps out, on the left hand connection. Over time it has left a brown discoloration spot the size of...of..of... a couple of postage stamps. The other side is leak free and the cross over pipe itself remains secure. The seep isn't enough of a bother for me to pull it all apart and try to eliminate it...YMMV. This isn't the same as the factory gasket blowing out as this left a loose/woobly/rattly crossover when it got bad. I don't think the Aaron shimset could ever get that bad. I suspose you could pull it back apart to smear around some hi temp silicone, its your call as to how bad it is and how much it bothers you. But I can't see that it would cause any problem beyond cosmetic.

I've found if you pull in/out the lever several times while at a stop (in neutral of course) or coasting in to park you can always find a time (with the clutch lever released) where everything is closed up nicely and you hardly hear any rattles or nashing. I do this all the time now when I park. It also makes start up time later a quieter event (lets me hear the bella exhaust note better too). 2-3-4 times usually does the trick.

For me it worked very well, but I did the following which wouldn't be for everybody: Saturday and Sunday mornings I was at the parking lot between 8 and 8:30am. got dropped off at the track basically an hour later. Saturday I left right after MotoGP qualifying, just before the AMA Superbike race. There was a short wait, maybe 10 minutes. Sunday I left after 3-4 laps of MotoGP, there was a small line, one bus about took everyone. For me it was easy come easy go. Talking with the driver on the way out, he said he was the last bus to run the "normal incoming" direction, the ones after him were told to reverse direction to take people out. And on our way out there were 30-40 busses coming the other way down the narrow property roads. They had set up the routes so that there was one way traffic only for the buses on any one road at a time I understand. He said there were 75 busses in use for the event. The busses were the motor coach style that hold what, 80 or so people? I agree that Laguna leaves a lot to be desired in terms of location. I taped the event and will watch it when I get home. I wonder how the people who rode to/from the track had it, if that system worked OK.

Ebay auction ended-sold for $157.50 - what's Italian for "eating crow"?
