I purchased a BMW F650 X challenge for my offroadand adventure fun. Bmw makes several variations of the F650 a cross country, X moto and the X challenge which is a serious off road bike. The bike is loads of fun, rotax powered built by Aprilia, a real blast. The 450 series is expected out next yaer as well. The X challenge features a Continental air ride rear shock which gives you great adjustability. I hope to get a set of super motard rims later to be able to switch it up a bit.

For some reason I now have to log in at every visit. I checked the "remember me" box but no change! Anyone else experience this?

I am presently repairing my "spare" speedometer as an eventual replacement using the JB weld repair. Its fussy work for sure but it should work ok as long as the JB weld holds up, we shall see. I picked up my current speedo from Reboot Guzzi Spares as I couldn't get a new one at the time. Good to know you can purchase a new one if needed. Hal

MRA also makes a high quality OEM replacement as well as a slightly taller version. Available at twistedthrottle

The standard Breva is nice all around motorcycle, very comfy. The Breva sport model is yet to be released but is supposed to be a well mannered sport bike, it looks the part and we will see how it performs. Its no GXER, HP 2 sport or 1098 but it is a sport bike. Hal

Hey John It took a while to get home as I picked up a piece of steel im my rear tire about 45 minutes from home. Of course a thunder storm happened by at the same time but some kind folks let me in out of the rain (more important the lightning) I got home eventually. I just put that tire on less than 500 miles ago! I'm picking up a Metzler Z6 this week from the shop where my son works and hope to get in on this weekend. Hal

How much vacuum are we talking about? After setting my tip over valve upright I still have slight pressure when the tank is low and outside temp is pretty warm, not really an issue. I have noticed this on just about every bike i've owned, the worst being my old Honda supersport. When the valve was sideways my tank would shrink nearly 1 1/2 in width due to the pressue. If you do remove it just don't tip it over! Good to meet you at Marsh by the way, nice to see so many turned out. Hal

Someone had a post on repairing the worm gear with JB weld, I beleive this was a reliable fix and not to difficult. I hope to try it on my original speedo.

It almost sounds like a bad ground of this particlar circut, arn't these items (tach, headlight starter solinoid) on the same relay? It could be a poor relay connection or damaged (pinched wire) somewhere. Hal

It's a very interesting mod, my concern would be how will the plastic fuel tank like the ethanol? As well as the rubber and aluminum parts? Looks like runs pretty hot as well. Hal

Most likely thats the case, someone made some modifications in an attempt to increase the cables life. The last cable I purchased has gone for 8000 miles, a current record for me. I replaced my ITI with a used part from "Reboot Guzzi Spares" off a Nero Corsa being parted out. I think they are available through any dealer.

I didn't see any pics of that "beautiful" Guzzi chopper? I'm sure it won peoples choice award again, so much for the peoples good taste! Hal

Good to meet you as well John! The speedo cable from Harpers was I believe a factory replacement but a different design. The previous cable didn't last long at all and was different from the original and the one purchased from Harpers. I'm not sure how many design changes there are but for whatever reason this one has worked out well. Hal

That is what makes a good dealer, going the extra mile to get your bike going not just passing the buck as a "Guzzi problem" After a friend was stranded on his brand new Griso with less than 200 miles on it he did some research and got the part from MPH himself because the dealer was unaware of the faulty fuel line issue. The dealer was going to wait for a replacement fuel pump assembly! BTW my Harpers purchased speedo cable on my 03 has lasted 8000 miles! The factory replacement one before that lasted less than 500.

It seems to me the dealer has a responsibility here for some of your issues. Machines should be properly set up and checked out before delivery. if faulty parts are to blame the dealer should be your advocate with the manufacturer, heck at the BMW shop where my son works they will pull parts of a new machine on the floor if its nescessary to get you going. The tank suck issue shouldn't be a drivability problem for an 04 as the pump is located inside the tank. Many of the things you point to are minor and believe it or not happen to all machines, many caught by good responsible dealers before delivery.

Welcome dp guzzi! To be honest I haven't cheked my tire mileage exactly, usually the front lasts longer than the rear but 8000 seems about right. I am on my second set of Michelin pilot roads which I like very much, good grip and wear well. They also have a new tire coming out soon a dual compound tire already available in Europe which is supposed to be very good, harder compound in the center for waer and softer on the edges for grip.
