  1. I have been using the K100 MG stuff for a while. A lt of the local offroad racing guys were using it and swear by it. http://k-100.com/
  2. Sadly, I have been told Mike has closed the place. Rats. Aside from the obvious of Mike running a nice shop for m/c gear, I really loved that model of the Macchi C.202 in his window! His wife's cookie shop across the street is also gone. We can ask Walt, but I gather that the "bypass" killed (already near-moribund) "downtown" Tellico Plains. Bill It was just to much effort for little return for Mike plus being open all the time was difficult. The place that sells the biker tee's is starting to stock some gear and looks to be picking up where Tellico Outfitters left off. Nice B&B right in downtown the Farmhouse Inn, he's a local rider with tools and a tire machine! http://www.tellicofarmhouseinn.com/
  3. Left you a voice message, i'm about 30 minutes north of Tellico plains if you need anything.
  4. I've ridden this road on the GS and the locals call it the "private Dragon' It's a very technical road which turns to dirt at the NC state line and has little traffic. Most people enter in on the TN side and ride easy to the NC border then turn around and speed things up a bit because visibility is much better in that direction. You really can't go wrong the riding is fantastic just about everywhere! Just keep in mind the weekends are busy and those main routes like Deals Gap will be crazy. TN 68 is fun, 315, 39, much of 66 to the north of I40, NC 276, 215 up into Waynesville NC is good. Heck most all of it is good. I did a full day of mixed surface yesterday around Tellico Plains crisscrossing the Cherohala Skyway (which you should do by the way the Cherohala that is). Highlands is a great town and riding is excellent in that area, you can check out two Blue Ridge Motorcycle campground near Waynesville NC, a good place and I hear War Women Road is a good route from Highlands area back into N GA. PM when close to the Tail of the Dragon I live about 20 minutes from there and might be able to meet up with you. Hal
  5. Hopefully my schedule will allow for Spine fun in September.
  6. It's bound to happen everyone else has gone liquid cooled, mostly for emissions reasons. Will it be a real sports bike? I hope so.
  7. I also have a timing cover leak and it did become an annoying mess. I'm not proud of it but i had a number of irons in the fire and ended up giving it a good cleaning and a light smear of black RTV. That was a year ago and I will get to it soon. Best thing is to clean it and then ride it looking often for the fresh oil.
  8. We always called them high gear clamps but also known as a worm drive. Some are specific for high pressure.
  9. I soon eliminated those "quick" connectors as well, I threaded in a couple of barbed brass fittings and use high gear clamps with a very fancy tool called a straight blade screwdriver.
  10. The Victoria Bergmeister was built in the late 40's or early 50's? I think. Did that bike have any influence on the Guzzi V?
  11. Love riding in the Catskills! Woodstock is a cool little hippie town and there is a vintage ride there every year thats always good. Enjoy the days while you can the white stuff is just around the corner!
  12. When I bent an ohlins tube on my RC I installed a set of forks from a Multistrada. From what I remember they were the only ones I could find that would be long enough to work. Everything worked, brakes and even fender so it was an easy swap from what I remember. Eventually I just ordered a new tube and had a friend who is an ohlins tech rebuild them for me.
  13. That's nuthin' ..... my illegitimate son (whom I've never met and I'm not really sure where he lives even) put his Puch on the dyno and got 268 hp. Not bad for a moped! Hey Puch had some hot machines, I had a 175 cc motocrosser that was untouchable by others in the day and they built a twin carb 250cc moto cross bike that produced 50+ hp. So with a little tweeking....hmmm
  14. This bike has been in the works for a while and will be priced right from what I understand. It has the hex head engine (which I have in my GS) not the new water boxer. The hex head is great engine and makes plenty of power but well below the new engine. I think it looks great and its a needed model in bmw's line up...whether it will succeed is unsure bmw has the tradition of pulling the plug on new models quickly when sales figures don't meet expectations. Oh my son put a new water boxer on the dyno and got 209 hp! Pretty hefty number for a big dual sport.
  15. Yes good riding with you guys and finally getting to meet some of you from the V11 board. It certainly was a beautiful day for riding some beautiful Italian spine frames! Hal
  16. Just for those checking in, looks like 129 will be a cluster! (more than usual) http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2013/sep/10/state-troopers-mount-motorcycles-for-enforcement/
  17. Sounds like a plan Docc. I'll meet you folks in Tellico plains at 9.
  18. Last nights weather forecast looks like a winner for the weekend. This has been the hottest its been all summer but a nice break rolling in on Thursday evening. I have some family in town for a few days so I might not get down there on Friday evening but will meet up with you folks Saturday. Are you heading up 360 to 72 to get to 129? Patrols on the dragon have been pretty heavy, several motor officers and Blount Co. sheriff have had some speed (radar) traps at the end of the Dragon. (don't ask me how I know!)
  19. RT 28 was closed for some time but is now open again, one lane closed on 129 a few weeks back. The house I purchased is 30 min north of Tellico Plains so if any one needs a garage to change a shift return spring or other repairs its available.
  20. UH-OH,Hal's gone Reb! Ha! No just a yankee living among the rebs! Actually I have been riding with a local guy (who also has a spine frame) and he wanted me to know this area was pro union troops, they talk about the civil war like it was yesterday.
  21. Upstate NY north of Albany around the town of Schaghticoke, where the riding both on and offroad is great but the winters are 4-5 months long! Not to mention the ever increasing taxes and loss of personal freedom (the safe act). So far love the riding down here although I haven't done to much off road treking yet but some which enabled me to get close to the local wildlife...smoky bear himself.
  22. Well since I moved from upstate NY to TN and now live about an hour from Tellico Plains I better make it this year! The Skyway is open went through there last week on the GS.
  23. Lee, I will look around I did have a spare gauge I kept for parts ...somewhere! Also what jaap said reboot guzzi spares is good place for used bits. I bought an iti speedo for my RC years ago and it was very reasonable and excellent service. Hal
  24. The Cherohala is nice fast run, from what I remember the tail of the Dragon and Hellbender are crazy busy on the weekend. We rode though I think McMinville ? coming back from Texas on Rt 30 I believe which was a nice twisty ride.
  25. I would sure like to make this non rally. We are planing a TN trip (or several) as we make plans to relocate down that way as soon as the house sells. We rode through that area last year coming back from a trip to Texas and enjoyed those TN roads. Hal
