Same here in the gastax capital of the world, plus I have never seen more scooters than now! And know those fugly Smart cars are turning up everywhere. Hal

You could also get a led flasher relay. I did this on my T3 cafe bike and it worked slick plus it was easy to wire and no surprises. Hal http://www.customled.com/PRODUCTS/FLASHER_...asher_relay.htm http://www.customdynamics.com/loadequalize...0Turn%20Signal0

It seems odd the bike failed to start, that almost sounds like some kind of vapor lock. When it wouldn't fire up did you check open the fuel cap to see if there was any pressure? Other than that you could be seeing a fuel filter problem. How do the plugs look? Are they very light in color or more black? Light in color would indicate a lean condition maybe from an plugged fuel filter. The plugs will tell you a lot, if you need more or less air etc. Good luck! Hal

My son and I planned on a trip to deals gap around the national SV rally of which he is a member. It ended up as 4 of us taking a truck and trailer down to North Carolina so we could drive straight through the 950 miles and have more riding time once there. As it turned out we had truck issues which extended our trip by 3 days. This NC and TN mountain area is a fantastic place to ride a motorcycle and that is clearly evident on the weekends when the area floods with bikes of all makes and sizes. "the Dragon' as its called is a section of highway 129 which is a twisty mountain pass with 318 curves in 11 miles! Along with that awesome stretch of road is the Cherohala skyway, foot hills parkway and the hellbender section of rt28. If you ever get the chance be sure and check it out, its a blast. Hal A video of my son in the 'Dragon" A few pics Yes they drive tractor trailers down that road we saw three hung up because the road is so tight. Digging the Guzzi out of a corner a few more pics here: http://s167.photobucket.com/albums/u129/WA...DD/Deals%20Gap/

I insure mine with Foremost Insurance, they may not be available in every state but I have 4 bikes on the policy and its around $600. I also have a clean record and am 48 years old. Hal

Thats great Jaap, loads of fun! Make sure you get a good supply of spare parts to take to the track with you those practice laps are just as much for the bike as the rider! Hal

Yes i did, just a finger smear around the inside of the sleeve near the end and stuff the packing back in. Any silicone will work I used some high temp orange that i had laying around. Hal
-
Hey Stu I think you can do it its really quite simple and all you need is a few simple tools. I did fail to mention the packing is held in with some silicone so you need to cut around the packing in between the sleeve with a thin blade or even a piece of sheet metal. This will allow the packing to separate from the sleeve and come out in one piece. Try to pop out as much of the dent with your hand then use a piece of wood to smooth out any crease. Hal

Coming back from Deals Gap one of the bikes in the trailer got loose and fell into my Rosso Corsa. Fortunatly for him my helmet and Ti can broke the fall of his SV sport. Unfortunately for me my helmet and Ti can broke the fall of his bike! I pulled it apart to start the repair and thought it may be of interest to others so I took a few pics of the inside and how the repar went. I thought of the idea after having most of the work done so no pic of the actual damage but there was a large dent from top to bottom on an angle right by the logo. All I did was drill out the rivets and pull the Ti sleeve out and worked it over with a wooden hammer handle on a piece of 2 inch pipe. Some of the dent popped out initially but the crease was still there and I had to work it for a while using armstrong to smooth it out. Its not perfect but you can't tell unless you reallly look for it and rub your hand along the affected area and feel a few ripples. Hal drilling out the rivets all the iside stuff working the sleeve with a hammer handle reinstalling new rivets Done!

buying old bike in storage 7 years
waspp replied to JoeV11's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Joe That seems a little high to me, as a comparison I paid $950 for the R100/7 i'm working on now and expect to sell it ready to ride for $3000. The bike runs good and is all original except for the dyna ignition (which is a good upgrade). I didn't do a whole lot other than clean it up and change the fluids, I will replace the rear wheel bearings and added a fresh battery. These bikes are simple as a stone to work on and very rugged, if its fully restored it may bring closer to $5000, but thats super nice condition. If you look close at those directional brackets they are cut off, thats what they did to put the fairings on. Not a huge deal but they list for $180 each but you can find them on ebay once in a while for 50-100 bucks a pair. Hal -

If the price was right one of the slash BMW's can be a good bike to take a chance on. The engines are solid and the things are built like tanks! I just bought a 78 R100/7 down in CT a month ago with a similar story, sat in a garagre for 6 years. Do check all the usual stuff tires etc should be replaced, and clean those bings before trying to get it started. Some issues to remember are rear wheel bearings and drive plate (check to see if the rear wheel wobbles badly) and clean the contacts on the starter relay up under the tank (they usually are dirty and give you fits). The stock mufflers can look good but rot right at the seam and develope holes on the bottom. If the bike has a Luftmeister or windjammer fairing on it (which it seems most do) and you want to remove it you will need to find front brackets for the directionals which are scarce and a bit pricey. i Also if you pass on it send me the info and I may grab it! Joe let me know if you need some more info I am somewhat familiar with these and my son works at a BMW shop. PM me and I can send you my phone number. Hal -
Terrble news, RIP drknow! At the very least he was doing something that he loved to do.

That is a nice looking LeMans! Maybe thats a GPZ system, I think they do make an undertranny box type system. Hal

Same here on the Rosso Corsa my valve covers don't even match that well.
-
The valve adjustment was done before about a week ago and the pinging persisted. At that point I figured it was time to check the tps and try to find anything out of adjustment. To be honest the sync wasn't horribly bad and I just went through the steps as posted here. Maybe the pinging was as simple as old gas from over the winter, thats a possibility as well. I'm surprised to see Toms baseline reading thats way out there but hey if it runs well who are we to argue! If I get ambitious I'll check mine as well. Al has the right idea the software should provide a more accurate way to set things up.I've been close to pulling the trigger for that as well. Hal

I wouldn't make the assumption that the mv change was the complete fix but rather all of the steps that Micha follows. My bleed screws were in about 1/2 a turn and my TB were slightly out of sync. The 550mv was just for me to see where it was before. I have too admit the pinging going by by was a pleasant surprise. I actually had a difficult time getting it to ping, lugging it way down and grabbing a fistfull of throttle in high gear. All i can say is it runs fine.
-
Ok, so i had just adjusted my valves before reading this topic so i figured i would try Micha's 6 step tps adjustment procedure. First off its way easier, second it works great! Before I set the tps at 1150 rpm i checked the current value which was 550mv, so i set it back to around 532mv and went for a ride. I noticed right off that the pinging was nearly gone and the bike seemed to run great. Again as some have said it may not work for everyone and i would like to be more accurate with rpms and such but i have to say the bike runs pretty good! Hal
-
It sounds like Micha has developed the "mechanics shortcut" which often works as well as page after page of detailed instuctions to be followed by the truly anal. So by setting the 532mv at idle (and not being concerned with the 150mv at throttle plate closed postion) does that change the range of fuel and timing by the ecu? As Dave said the mv reading at the closed throttle plate position may vary greatly from bike to bike. Is this a problem or is the position of the TPS most critical at the idle position?

Took a nice ride out RT2 down through pioneer valley yesterday, beautiful day for sure! Still snow along the roads out there and piles of the white stuff around. I will put that on my calender and try to get out there. Hal

You could have a personal paypal account and transactions could be made with a credit card or paypal transfer. Its really simple and makes life a lot easier. I have used paypal for years and often its one one of the first things I look for when buying something. There are fees involved but they are relatively small, but the convienience IMHO is worth it. I have yet to send for my relays but i will when I get the chance (if you had paypal I could do it right now) Hal

You might want to try the Motratech kit manufactured by one of our own here on the board. John M. (Ryland) has done a lot of work on a set which lowers the pegs and relocates the shifter and brake lever, very nicely done and from what I hear all day riding comfort. You can search for his web page or look in the MGNOC newsletter for an add, or PM him from here and he will set you up. Hal Her's the link www.motratech.com

Never use owners manual settings for tire pressure always use the settings provided on the tire itself. I usually run 35 fand r
