Hmmmm lets see we have a high cost of living, soaring income taxes, lots of cold weather, soaring property taxes, people who don't know how to drive a car, and a Governer who wants to give licences to illegal aliens! (thankfully hes backed away from that for now) Did I mention high taxes! Fortunately i'm north of Albany where there are still more cows than cars1

Wow! Way to goo John, that sounds like a great trip. I have a pair of Olympia all season pants that work really well. The pants have armour and hip pads for protection as well as a wind / waterproof insulated liner. When the liner is removed the pants are mostly a mesh material which allows good airflow for warmer weather riding. I usually wear the mesh outer pants over my jeans in the summer for the protection and use the liner for those really cold days. Price was reasonable as well. Hal

Welcome! I may have the perfect solution to your situation. Hire me as a motorcycle tour guide, buy a Quota and we can switch bikes for half the season. Love my Rosso Corsa but wouldn't mind a Quota now and then as well. Hal

V11 owner looks longingly at BMW HP2 Sport
waspp replied to Bbennett's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
I must say I love that HP2 sport as well, in fact I like the whole HP2 line! I had the chance to sit on the new Megamoto and loved it, as soon as I can ride it I will, its a fantastic motorcycle that looks like it would be a sweet bike. The HP2 sport is something special a true sports bike for sure. I have ridden several new R1200s's and while its a fine motorcycle it didn't feel like it was any better than my RC. No way could I justify the money to move to bike that was not much different from the Guzzi i was riding. The HP2's however are very different and a blast to ride, Maybe when i'm ready to buy a Megamoto Guzzi will have something to offer that will be similar ... modern NTX maybe? -
Great musem! Its definately is worth the time to check it out, and yes he has some Montesa's there as well. Here is my 360 H6 for the Montesa fans out there.

Are you mad man! Get over it , that flast paint is beautiful and very hard to duplicate take good care of it.

I have the Guzzi race cans with the ECU and they sound great and look good as well. However I have ridden with some friends who have the M4's and must admit they sound better!
-
Very nice for sure! What exhaust system do you have on the 1000s project? I have been looking fo a system for my cafe bike with upswept pipes. Hal

Oh man that to bad! That was difficult to read and its not even my bike....bummer! Guy has some good advice think it through before you do anything. Well at least you have the winter to gather parts if you go that route. Good luck. Hal

Guy thats taking shape nicely! I'd like to see those upswept Mistrals, I have to get a decent exhaust for muy Tonti. If you go with a small gel battery you can hide them in a lot of places. My battery box is in front of the rear wheel but I think with the right gel I can move it back under the bubble tail and reclaim my center stand. Its good to have some adjustability on those bars, they look great low but are a bear to ride any distance. I've moved my Raask bars around a hundred different ways to get the proper riding position. My son took some pics when I was building mine and posted them on the SV board if interested. http://forum.svrider.com/showthread.php?p=828430#post828430 Hal

Rac, I have been using Mobil 1 15w 40 (gold cap) synthetic but the manual suggests a lighter oil I beleive 5w40. I think i'm going to switch to BMW oil which is a motorcycle specific oil with a weight (10w50) which will be more inline with factory recommendations. Its available close by and my son works there so I get the family discount which helps satisfy my cheap qualities. Hal

Well said These retro bikes are a great way to rekindle the emotion of bikes we knew and loved in the past, but with all the modern technology. I wouldn't be surprised to see a sport varient follow, maybe a special limited edition. I have been condiering a breva 750 for my wife who is ready to upgrade from the ninjs 250 and this bike would be my first choice.
-
I agree with you on this one. The GS is a great bike and the F800 gets my vote for best all around, that V twin of the Aprilia hangs out there to much for some of the places I go. The F800 will replace the F650 GS which BMW has discontiued.

I'm about an hour or so north of Woodstock so maybe next time with a little notice and I can meet up with you guys. Hal

Looks very nice! A great new retro version of the V7 special (1969) right down to the paint scheme, the sport model will most likely follow in green with a red frame.

1979 V1000 G5...anyone know anything about them?
waspp replied to NorBSATriGuzzi's topic in 24/7 V11
Hey Doug there's a guy in Mass with a custom Guzzi chopper that can make some really uspwept exhaust! Hal -
How about a Premier ?

I'm also running the Metzler Roadtec on the rear of the Rosso Corsa but am using the Sportec on the front. I ran the Michlien pilot roads before and liked them as well.

You can always get back to some serious riding in the future. When my 4 kids were small my wife and I stopped taking MC trips and sold my new bike for a beat up Triumph Bonneville project. I went through it and rode it around on just short blasts. As my 2 boys got older we began buying, fixing and riding dirt bikes (which we still do) and now with the youngest in high school my wife has her license and we he 11 bikes in the garage!

Don't grind on it unless you have a crack in the glass that needs repair. Use various grits of sand paper starting at something around 80to strip off the old paint and work up to a fine paper lets say 220. Use your paws or if you can be trusted use a small orbiting sander, just be carful not to take off to much. Prime it when done with a good urethane primer (SEM rattlecan would be ok) and wet sand with 600-800 for a smooth finish ready to paint. Hal

The F650 and F800 series BMW's are Rotax powered. I believe the 650's are actually built by Aprilia, in fact some of the parts come in Aprilia boxes. The new 450 series are the same for now, but with BMW buying Husqvarna that may all change in the future.
-
No doubt those BMW's are pricey, and truth be known the 650 is really an Aprilia! Since my son works at a BMW shop we managed to score the X challenge at a greatly reduced price, it was used with 9 others as demo bikes at a large rally. The nice thing was it has about $1000 worth of upgraded parts on it. Its a great bike fairly light, powerful and loves the dirt! The KTM 's arn't cheap and the dealer network sucks. Yes they do break down! Many of the KTM dealers won't even handle the road bikes because of the cost involved.
-
When they're a bit on the ugly side you don't mind as much when you start banging it up. After all its an adventure bike, it should be dirty and scratched. I like it! It looks smaller and more nimble than a GS 1200 that would be a good start.

Yea while us "squares" are out doing stuff like this on our BMW's guys like you are home waxing your prissy ducatis!

Welcome Guzzieke! Hope you enjoy that LeMans
