Intresting just finished reading Enemy Coast Ahead by Guy Gibson VC, DFC and a few others I forgot (awards that is). Unfortantly he didn't survive WWII so it was a very here and now perspective. He was lamenting that the Battle of Britan pilots might not be remebered in 10-20 years time. Athough slightly off track if anyone has Wispering Death (Beaufighter's over the Medaterainan) been looking for it for ages but on the intermet they are talking 45USD bit rich IMO. The idea of guys flying around at 25ft no terrian following radar auto pilot etc etc appeals to me for some odd reason.

Bugger doesn't look like any made it here, not that I'm too serious yet thinking about trying to find a Sifida four valve Magni apprently a lot ended up in the land of the rising sun. Which is not too far from here. If I succed you hear a lot more of me how did you make yours go faster type questions.

Any chance or reading the article online somewhere or at least a scanned verion sent to me?

Visited the orfical factory site along with some neat pic's of the musem and a complete rebuild of the site the V11 Scrua R is listed as a production model. Anyone with closer links to distributors/factory have any comment? 67 Kw single plug head as best I can tell.

Off road machines with for wheels the heavier you are the faster you sink more power doesn't fix that in any way shape or form. Favourite machine is the Suzuki LJ50, current avalible machines Landie D90, Suzuki Jimmy the Griso is still but ugly IMO

The bike had around 60-70 000kms on at the time certainly run in. I used what they recommended from memory the Gear oil was Blue and the final drive oil was red.
-
Well I'll relate my experinces with redline gear oil. I have a 94 1100 carbed sport five speed box striaght cut only three engaugment dogs per gear no cush drive in the rear. The magazines at the time described the box as at best recalcatrent sp? (those with vague knowledge of aust politicts will understand the significance of the word). So I had the oil in the gearbox and final drive replaced with the redline stuff as i was told you hardly had to replace it better shift etc etc well it only wouldn't work, as it was getting close to due anyway. NB I change the final drive oil every 5000kms the 15000km interval of the factory is hoplessly optmistic I can now tell when the final drive oil goes up the creek I start missing gears the false neutrals suddenly return etc etc. Fisrt off there was little to no differnece in shift action admittedly the oil that was removed wasn't cooked. Talked to the redline people who were making double to tripple the manufactuers recommendations. So thinkin it should be good for at least 30 000kms I rode around. The shift quality died at around 9000kms just like the rear drive oil was dead. So I dropped it the gearbox oil come out the same colour it went in, the final drive oil came out a black grey colour and was clearly shagged, replaced it with mineral oil and everything was back to how it normally was. Considering the expense of this stuff thats pretty !@#$ing poor I'm back to final drive changes every 5000kms its cheaper and more effective. To redlines credit they did offer to analise the oil but 250ml was big enough sample they needed a minum of 500ml I was studding at the time and wasn'r prepared to fork out again so I could cook it for thier benifit. I suspect most of the differance you get from this stuff is because the oil that is removed is probally dead and its simply new oil. As to the manufacturer's claims of no life replacment I look at the current BMW no service final drives and wonder how long they really are going to last. Murray

The early V11's had a batch of Siemins relays that were pretty average. Might be worth checking out if they relays have been swapped. The random starting seems to fit at least.
-
Yeah it only took the limeys 16? years to win the game they invented I'm still trying to work out whether it was the English cricket team that won or the misrable English weather .
-
While it could be done I would secound a dual sport bike to begine with things like the verable DR650, KLR etc etc. The Guzzi is a pretty docile machine and the newer ones are a lot easier to ride than the older ones but there is definatly a technique to them and they a quiet capable of been shooved into a spot they can't quiet get out of.
-
Dunno the more I look at this bike the Uglier it gets not to metion the compromised ground clearance it would have to achive the "look".

I got to test the Billet aluminium head protectors late last year at the track. They didn't save the muffler rear brake leaver RH sparkplug and still managed to take some paint off the fron and rear fairings but they didn't get broken or torn (fibreglass on the 1100 sport) However the head and barell were completly untouched. This was a lowside comming out of a corner on the power as I was at the track it didn't have very far to fall. Undoubtely they saved me many thousands of dollars. The only pictures I have seen of oggy knobs on Guzzis fit tem up towars the headstock. I think postioned there they will do probally less that the head protectors (and they are more expensive) athough if they stick out far enough may protect you bars. Ideally in conjuntion with the head protector a set of oggy knobs one down near the foot rest Super motard style and one around the top of the pillions foot rest would be ideal to protect the pegs and controls and the rear body work. I think however they will only be really effective on a lowside. On a high side they are likely to concentrate the force of the impact into whatever they are attached too and bend it ,240 kg would slap down pretty hard me thinks.

For starting an oil thread you shall be tryed under rule 303 You will be Judged buy rule 303 You will be shot by rule 303. Those who have seen the Breaker Morant movie will understand

Stupid suggesting but maybe we are over looking possibly the obious. When you apply full throttle is kinda odd the bike is already running things that are drawing current are drawing current. The only thing that starts working hard and drawing more current are the coils. The alternator starts to produce more voltage at higher rpm but this seems to be a throotle postion problem not a rpm problem. Have you checked the harness that runs near the throttle cables and linkages how about in the throttle body. The linkages or cabe could of rubbed through somewhere and when you apply full throttle short something to earth. Dunno its only an idea the other thing to look at is to make sure the coils are solidly mount and not touching something when the bike suddenly accelerates forward.

I switch between a VOR530 with a SM kit and the 1100 sport. I have done a few things tot he 1100 sport to get it turn quicker. Athough I carried these out well before I had the VOR. Removed the steering dampener even on its lowest setting it still have quiet an effect. Pulled the forks through the tripple tree's around 5-10mm. With Guzzis fairly conservative steering geometry you can get away from this don't try it on a 600ss. After riding the V11's one of the things I would seriously consider is huting down a 4.5 rear rim from the orginal V11's and fitting a 160 rear tyre the carbed 1100 sport has this sized tyre and its well balanced witht he whole bike turning in rather than the fron diving in and the rear relutantly following. I think this would improve the handling markedly with Guzzi's modest power ouput you don't really need a 180 section tyre to get the power to the ground. I'm not sure which variation on the V11 but the other thing to consider would be a proper set of clipon's ones that mount below the top tripple tree to get your wieght forward. My thoughts anyway my biggest problem when switch from the VOR to the Guzzi at the moment is remeber the Guzzi doesn't have a set of 250GP qualifying slicks like the VOR with the ridiclous amounts of grip they provide.
-
Stupid question but have you run a spanner over your battery terminals recently also the bolt that holds the earth strap on the frame. The carbed 1100 sports mange to vibrate them loose occsionally.
-
Well went around to afore metioned thunderbikes and had my first look at the 1100 Breva. While its not the kinda bike I would actually buy Guzzi are starting to get there. Things like the side stand its steel and wait for it half way along the bike. I usally reach down with my hand and put the one on the 1100 sport down its easier there is no way my leg reaches that far forward while I'm on the bike. I've left it so it still self retracts cause again I can't reach that far forward to retrive it ethier on the bike. Oil filter that you don't need to drop the sump or remove a cover to get too. Its getting scary now, providing they hold together rasnobly well and no stupid things start happening to them who knowes the factory might actually start turning a profit. People come up to me and tell me they don't make bikes like mine anymore ,"there's probally a good F@#King reason for that too" will be intresting to see something a little more Sporting oriented. Athough they are running out the last of the coppa Italalia and Cafe sports for pretty good prices too. Dunno new road bike is still a little way away I have a VOR super motard to play with at the moment.

Kinda drifting of topic but the first container of 20 to arrive in Australia is gone as in sold. Three bikes out of the next container are also presold sight unseen let alone ridden. Thunder bikes in Perth WA has sold three in two weeks around here thats to the piont of actually becomming popular.

I wouldn't worry about it if you look at the history og Guzzi especailly in the last 40 years they or thier owners go bust regulary. Somehow they always manage to rearrange the deck chairs at the boat shed and contiune on. Most of the parts are usally scoured from outside suppliers anyway. If you look at the current drama's VOR is going through they havn't produced a bike in almost 9 months. Yet parts are readily and easily avalible through the factory. Quoting a supplier based in Italy "This is Italy and there is not anything you I or anyone else can do about it" he is Italian BTW before anyone decides I need a horse's head personally delivered.

Have you seen thisDrysdale ok admittedly is been around quiet a while. Dunno Lemans Sport has potential an updated 1100 sport wouldn't be a bad thing The GT tourer looks very st1300 and the V8 has some serious Benelli Tornado influences. Won't be holding my breath on any of these I'd go blue and fall over.

The 93 daytona is the same motor as the centuaro In stock form it is not a significant upgrade over the V11/1100 sport. The engine runs a bit smoother spins up a bit quicker and produces slightly lower torque. The Front ends on the early daytona's were also pretty basic yes you can get a lot of HP out of them if you throw enough money at them. However if you really want a collectors item you should find a Daytona Racing these had the Factory C kit which included cams carillio rods pistons etc etc. These are a significant step forward on the 1100 two valver supposedly they only made 100 of these bikes and had the 320mm front discs (as opposed to the 300mm on the daytona) and the latter Marzochi forks that were used on the 1100 sports. These were numbered I even know where number 1 is . Slightly less exculsive but all round a better machine is the Daytona RS same body work as the 1100 sports with the upsidedown WP forks Marchesini wheels C kit motor depending on who you listen to 2-300 bikes made. Stay away from the US versions as they didn't get the C kit motor.

If you ever make it over to the west of Aust contact me. I work away so it might not be possible to catch up but at least we have the best Guzzi shop in Australia here Roads are a bit open and stupidly fast around here though and the one between Sydney and Perth is a bit of a drag Nullaboring.

I think people are missing the piont regarding the power op. This is the touring model not the fire breathing sports model. Don't want to scare all those ex BMW oners with mountians of power now do we? Jibes aside the engine is tuned for flexiblity and smoothness. With the redesigned engine compents for the fist time I'll take a wild stab in the dark and assumed the engineers left themselves some room to manouver. If there is at two valve MGS01 or V11 sport replacment (if they ever actully do it) I would expect the hp output to be little higher. The look of the tank well umm I really have no opion until I see the bike but I am usally more concerned with how much the tank holds rather than what it looks like.
-
I dunno I have a very hard time looking at the back end of my bike while I'm riding it. What the back end of my bike looks like to people behind me is thier problem. I don't tend to look at the back end of my bike because it means I'm not riding it. Or maybe I'm just missing something here.

Actualkly there is a secound hand black Magni Fairing at Rick Gills Honda (he's the local offical Guzzi dealer, everyone in practise actully goes to Thunderbikes) in Perth for sale athough around 1700 I think can't remeber. Might be a nice replacement for the orginal.
