How long ago did you sell the bike? If more than a few weeks I don't see why this is your problem. Is your friend expecting you to fix this at no cost to him? There's no way to tell if oil was added after the failure. I'm no expert but I'd guess the copper looking shards in the sump could be rod bearing fragments. There have been some reports here of rod bearing failures for no apparent reason, so that's a possibility. Something must be really wrong for the motor to be frozen...

How did you do at Daytona this time?

I love the fact that this site is focused on the V11 spine frame bikes and I hope it continues this way. If it had to change I wouldn't mind the inclusion of older spineys, or even Tonti LeMans ( ), but please no cruisers.

Nice bike Guy. Be sure to post your wheelie videos once the roads dry up.

In addition to what the others said I'll mention that you should check the swingarm mounting pins too. Mine were loose when I bought the bike used, I could feel the back wheel moving a bit when rolling off the throttle the rolling it on again. Handling got much better once I tightened the pins up. You should probably check all of your motor mounts and frame bolts. I found some surprisingly loose ones when I did. One of the motor mount bolts behind my fairing was about to fall out

FWIW the former owner of my '02 (with Ti ECU/exhaust) mostly eliminated the 4k rpm torque dip by adding a PCIII and getting a custom map done. I have his before & after dyno charts that show this. It's possible that the 03-04 V11's didn't have the dip because of a better map from the factory along with the new crossover.

The newer Guzzis with 2-1 exhaust have catalytic converters. Wouldn't the cats strangle the sound a bit compared to the old V11s?

I was able to get parts for my '84 Honda from ronayers.com. I had to find the Honda part number in my manual then enter it in the search field on that site. They didn't have an online parts list for my bike but they did stock the parts. I don't know if they have parts for 60's Hondas.

I'm sure I saw a picture of a Nero with a mono wheel trailer on here a while back Rocker. Searching.... Aha! http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...&hl=trailer

Did Todd recommend a map for your bike? I'd go with what he recommends over what your mechanic picked. I seriously doubt that a map for the Quat D under transmission exhaust is ideal for your bike with the Mistral crossover and Mistral mufflers. IMO you need to find a map that most closely matches your intake and exhaust setup for your exact bike. I believe the 2003 and later euro bikes had a catylitic converter in the crossover. I don't know if the factory map for those bikes is different than the non-cat'ed we got here in the US. If so a US developed map might not be ideal. If no one here knows the answer to this question I would hope that Todd could help you out there. If the factory mapping is the same as the US bikes there must be a few members here with a very similar setup to what you have. Maybe they'll step up and share their map with you. If the Euro bikes got a different map you may want to start a new thread here with a title something like "Euro PCIII map needed", and detail your modifications in the body of the post. Hopefully someone will have a map you can try. Finally, your best but most expensive option is to get a custom map done at a PCIII dyno center. Good luck!

I had a V65 Sabre too WC. Great motor. Great bike for it's time too. I really should hook up with some of you guys for a ride this year. Me & Ouiji traded a few emails last year but never managed to meet up. Hopefully I can make some time this year. Sorry for the hijack V11crazed. I'll butt out now...

I just saw a bit of this upcoming TV series, a film clip on Ducati. I liked it. Certainly better than a lot of other motorcycle related shows that I've seen. The series looks promising in spite of the dumb name, except that they don't cover Moto Guzzi Turbo

Yikes! That's horrible John! Aren't you one of the unfortunate folks who had their oil filter unscrew itself? If so I wonder if the scoring could be from lack of oil? The cracked cylinder is just bizarre. I don't see how a drop could cause that (crack below the crankcase mounting surface), but I don't know what else would. Maybe Pete or Greg will weigh in here their with take on it. They must have seen something like this before.

Beautiful bike Diesel. Those spoked wheels are AWESOME ! edit: BOTM! BOTM! Send those pictures to Jaap! " Send your pics and words to: info (at) v11lemans (dot) com "

It should NOT be shaking like a paint shaker or a Harley. Do you know the service history on the bike? It may be time to adjust the valves and sync the throttle bodies. Both are real easy to do on a Guzzi...

If you're really interested in the 1098 you should give this a ride too: The bike! RC8 test: http://www.biketestusa.com/Article_Page.aspx?ArticleID=6090 , I'd probably go after an 848 if I was in the market for a new sport bike. Even though I think the MGS is the coolest Guzzi ever, I don't think it could compete in the sportbike market with a 120hp air cooled motor Slavomir, please let us know what the Voxan is like once you've ridden it. I like that one and the naked version, but have never seen a post from someone who's ridden one compare it to a Guzzi. I doubt I'll ever see one for real on this side of the pond.

I did the Phil A airbox modification when I added the crossover last year. The bike runs great except for some pinging which has been there since day 1. I'm going after that problem again as soon as I get the bike out of my basement. Edit: Looking at this again, I bet Greg's reply was meant for V11cafe...

I have the Ti kit with an FBF crossover which is supposed to be functionally identical to the Stucchi. I think the crossover made a noticeable increase in power from around 3500rpm on up, but I made other changes at the same time (PCIII map and airbox mod), and my bike is older than yours (no front balance pipe, different factory map), so my experience isn't necessarily applicable to your situation. I guess that doesn't help much, does it? One thing I can say is any V11 will be louder with any aftermarket crossover. Edit: An FBF or Stucchi crossover will also lean out your fuel mixture. You may get some popping when you roll off the throttle. IMO to get the most benefit out of exhaust and intake changes you need to address the fuel map with a PCIII or some other software product.

I'm using Metzeler Z6 Roadtecs. Probably not as sticky as your Sportmax's but they seem to last longer than a full on sport tire while being sticky enough for a lot of the guys here including me. Getting rid of the squared off tire that you have should really help your handling, and going to a "pointy" tire as Rocker suggested does seem to be the way to go on these beasts. I really liked the handling improvement that I got when I went from the stock 180 tire to a 170 (2002 and later bikes came with a wider rim/tire combo than your bike). I think most of the pre-2002 guys here who dropped from the stock 170 to a 160 width really liked the change too. FWIW If the PO sends you a tire that's any wider than stock I'd advise you to get rid of it and get one that's narrower.

I'm still wondering how Pedrosa pulled that holeshot. He started 4th and absolutely blew by everyone well before the first turn. It was looking like he might run away with the whole race for a little while there. Kudos to Stoner for biding his time back in 4th or 5th before picking off the leaders one by one. Obviously he looks to be the one to beat again this season. OT: The craziest race that I saw this weekend was the Daytona Supercross. It was a cross between a jetski race and a tractor pull! Sorry for the dirt bike content here but this race was much different than usual. More pics etc here: http://www.racerxill.com/articles/detail/3...ace-report.aspx

Welcome Joe! The Ballabio is a great bike, hope you enjoy it.
