I'm now on my 4th Electrex World Reg/Rec !
pasotibbs replied to pasotibbs's topic in Technical Topics
Another failure !! I've hardly used the bike in the last few years and not at all for the last 2 and the reg/rec has again shorted out internally with a 5 amp (on an ammeter ) link between +ve and the body of the unit which totally discharged the battery (it has taken a charge by linking another battery in parallel and is holding above 12v but suspect will prove to be weakened ). I normally have the battery on charge 2 hours every day (on a timer) and run the bike every couple of months but accidentally switched off the socket for a few days and when I noticed and switched it back on discovered the battery totally flat. It must be me but my 26yr old Ducati is treated exactly the same and is still on its original Reg/Rec ! -
If I remember correctly the too short hugger causes water off the rear wheel to soak the gearbox breather ? That would certainly not help gearbox life if the oil wasn't changed often and/or the bike not used in hot /dry enough conditions to allow the moisture to vent out ?

A very funny video, very well done lots of clever touches, the video tracking in and out is very 80's !!! (contains swearing and violence so beware !!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bS5P_LAqiVg

Best budget shock is Hagon as they will build to suit weight/riding style, I may have a Sachs shock if you need to keep mobile for now? Hopefully its in a box somewhere in my mothers garage, let me know and I'll try to find it. Sent from my ZTE Skate using Tapatalk 2

Cheers for that, will now try Bennetts. Stew - not seen me cause bike has spent most of last year in my garage due to house moves etc, might have seen you around though if you were on Halifax Road a couple of months ago! once insurance sorted I plan to be out and about

They look identical but as well as being much better made the Ducati part has a slight curve to the main assembly(and thus lens) but the Guzzi one is straight. you can see the curve on the picture here (the chrome bit is concave left to right not top to bottom) its not a lot but it means the Guzzi lens won't sit flush if fitted.

Tail light from old Ducati Monster fits and looks stock but is much better quality. The unit is slightly curved at the mounting so lenses can't be swapped but any aftermarket Monster LED replacement should also fit.

Although the discs appear true(not warped) they may not be "floating" correctly, even though you've cleaned the bobbins the discs may be stuck slightly off centre in relation to the spindle so the pads are running on and off the normal swept area of the discs ? I had the same issue and "cured" it by replacing the discs with some used Ducati ones,I was able to get the old discs cleaner off the bike but have never got around to testing them.

See here (post 23) for the parts you'll need and here for the guide.

triple clamps appear to be 0.8 to 1.2 Kgm (which I believe is 8-12Nm) Wheel Spindle is 90 to 100Nm I found these in 2 different places so may be best to wait for others to confirm Standard values are quoted as 4mm nuts/bolts 3-3.5Nm 5x0.8 nuts/bolts 6-7Nm 6x1 nuts/bolts 8-12Nm 8x1.25 nuts/bolts 25-30Nm 10x1.5 nuts/bolts 45-50

I suspect that the rear brake pads would wear out very quickly !!

V11 Le Mans Leaks Oil, Relays Arc, Bought It Anyway

Just a thought but if the noise is regular it could be an alarm in "service" mode with a damaged sounder or failing internal battery if the power has been disconnected ? -
It's probably the solenoid, but could be the clutch switch. Mine also has done this but not as bad, usually starting on the 3rd or 4th attempt (I used to hold the starter button in and work the clutch until it started) recently I added another relay to feed the solenoid direct from the battery (to take the load off the alarms immobiliser relay) and it's worked every time so far !!

I removed my disc bolts by drilling the hole 5mm or so deeper (I used whatever size drill fits without rounding off the flats) and hammering the allen key bit into it, it worked for all the bolts. The same method may work for the cush drive cover bolts.

Cliff does/was doing an ignition module for non EFI bikes called "Rec-Ignition Module",it took a bit of finding but it is mentioned on his site under Latest Developments (18th June 2005).
