Engine oil leak may be from the breather pipe on top of the engine,it goes from the rear of the engine up to the frame near the coils/headstock. I think this does throw oil all over if it splits so may be worth checking ? Hopefully the gearbox fault is just a selector issue and easily fixed. Dave

I think someone here used a heat gun to soften the plastic so the mirror could be removed ? Maybe extra weight could then be added to the casing, mirror itself or both in a more controlled way?

Have a good look around to see if there is any damage to the casing if none are visible then I'd drain the gearbox oil that remains(if any) and see what else falls out! If big bits of metal fall out then its bad and like the others have said, take off the side cover and have a look inside. If you get a small "christmas tree" on the magnetic plug (tiny metal filings) its probably not terminal some metal here is normal. The gearboxes have been known to act up if they get really hot (as in your situation) and then behave normally when they cool down again but your's throwing its oil out sounds more serious. One possibility is that if you've ridden in the rain (well you do live in the UK!!) spray off the rear wheel may have got into the 'box (a known fault) and then when it got hot turned to steam and tried to get out again throwing oil everywhere ? It may be that replacing the gear oil will cure it, but I'd be tempted to remove the gearbox cover and check/clean inside before riding again (you can also change the Pawl spring while your there) If everything checks out then I'd use Redline gear oil as others here suggest. The fuel light bulb needs to draw enough current to cause the thyrister to heat up when not covered by fuel so it may be worth looking at the bulb type used (it may be an LED).

One of the reasons for the minimum thickness is that a pad worn close to the backing plate could possibly make a bid for freedom between the caliper and disk !! (I've seen cars do this) Its possible to go below the recommended thickness but only if the pads are checked (with our bikes the rear disk is probably the one most likely to be dangerous due to its ability to wear pads at a rapid rate !!)

If you've ridden in heavy rain the oil pressure sensor probably has water in it (my V11,Paso, mates 850 Lemans and another mates 900SS have all done this) swap it out as Pete suggests.

Replaced mine on Monday, it was still ok but as I had a new one I thought it was better to do it now !! I'm glad I did it as the boss was 16mm and the old spring had a greater range of motion than the new, I filed the boss down to 15mm and fitted the new spring.

Its not a terrible job (unless the leak is from the pinion seal) as you should not need to remove the pinion gear ( a real pain). Thread here and here (the tread I posted pics in) Seals for bevel box are...(prices are 3 years old) BRTS70X85X8 OIL SEAL £1.64 +VAT BRTS32X52X7 OIL SEAL £1.03 +VAT BRTS37X55X8 OIL SEAL £1.64 +VAT BS163 O RING £0.50 +VAT from reading the thread it looks like I found one seal size to be wrong (38x50x7 instead of a 37x55x6 ) but as thats not on the list I'm not sure if there is another seal ? I have a bearing puller if you need it (I can't remember) just PM me.

I can confirm that the starter off the 1100 Cinquecento (FIRE Engine)is not the same as ours, even the solenoid is different. The 900 Cinq or old type Panda may be the same as ours but I can't yet confirm this...yet

No problem with disconnecting power to the early type ECU but I'm not sure about the later bikes with a Lambda probe, I think at worst it would have to re-learn your riding style but i'm pretty sure they only have a lambda because they have a catalytic convertor ?

I went to the bike yesterday and even with a low battery it started without a kickback(in fact it started several times as I was too slow with the fast idle). I charged the battery overnight and as I'm not at work today decided to warm both bikes up, again no problem in fact almost better at starting than the Paso !!!! Don't know why but it seems cured

My friends 907 used to kick back against the sprag clutch so hard he had to replace it every 2 years . His bike was standard (as far as we knew) and would often kick back and stall while cold if the fast idle wasn't fully on !! The starting problem he had was probably because he left the bike stood for long periods and as you know the clock on Paso's will drain the battery, I think the crank speed was then too slow for the ign timing that was being used. It may be that the starting problem and stalling while cold may have been related to a map issue,in fact another 907 owner advised him to try a different map(a new EPROM if I remember correctly ) as he claimed to have had the same issues cured by this, but the battery would seem most likely . Charge or replace the battery, the problem is most likely due to that.

The on/off nature of the throttle at low speed has been looked at before here (post 10), I made one out of 5mm alloy and must admit I'd forgotten about it so it must work

Good idea, if it works I date or name my maps (ie after xx changed.ecu) and keep them in a couple of locations, that way I can find them quickly if I need to. Running closed loop means the map I started a ride with may not be the one I return with so I tend to save the map before and after a ride(before ride to x.ecu,after ride to x.ecu) to compare the changes.

I also found that setting the TDCwhilecranking to 0 solved my starting issues but I also altered the enrichment and timing values as well. My map is posted a few posts above so you may want to compare, Raz posted a map from a 1100Sporti a few pages ago that had the targets narrowed (as you are doing) to improve mileage so you may learn something from the work done there ? Starting on mine is now a matter of spinning the motor over and opening the throttle until it fires, then setting the fast idle to stop it stalling, there may still be work to be done but I haven't had a kick back since making the changes (and they where BIG kickbacks ,a couple of times so loud and violent I thought a rod must have made a bid for freedom !!) Glad its not just me that had this issue !!!(maybe its fuel quality that varies between countries ?) Dave

Cliff's reply "Yes that's normal and is a result of the way the throttle pump emulation works. It only works as expected when the engine is running." That explains it, I'd not noticed it before but thought it was probably worth mentioning here as others will no doubt find it useful to know.

I've PM'd Cliff with this, I may be missing something but I've just noticed there seems to be a big difference between the throttle position and the area of map actually being used ?(could explain a lot !!) I hit the top row of the map at approx half throttle which seems wrong to me !! like I say it may be I'm missing something or have screwed up my map somehow? Almost certainly normal Guzzi sound (clutch,gearbox etc), I was always under the impression that worn big ends got "vocal" at max torque rather than idle (unless the oil light comes on that is !!)If it was a car I'd would expect a big end knock to show up initially on a cold start with it going quiet when the oil pressure built up and for it to return when the oil was hot at max torque RPM ? If a previous owner has allowed the oil light to come on whilst riding (low oil level,harsh acceleration etc) then they could be failing but they'd have to be really bad to drown out the other Guzzi sounds It may be a bad idea (others will advise I'm sure)but I'd be tempted to warm the engine up then with the engine at idle put the bike in gear and with a brake applied use the clutch to slowly load up the motor, the idle speed will come down (reducing oil pressure) and the load on the bearings will go up, if the oil light comes on or the knock gets worse then you were right if it goes away or reduces we were . just don't do it for long !!!

They give a weird "fluttery" exhaust note most noticeable on the over run (I quite like it) , and certainly take the edge off the noise!! I drilled 4 holes 90 degrees apart at the inner end and threaded them to take small bolts to stop the baffle moving off centre when fixed in place( I welded the ends of the bolts together when I had them in the right position so they could not move)
