  1. The Cycle Garden guys will be falling all over themselves to, ah,"service" him.
  2. Welcome xroads.Good to have another North Easterner in the fold. Cafe Sports really are the best of all the nakeds. Most problems have been sorted. Some have had problems with the clocks.Speedo gear stops working and condensation. Pawl springs have been problematic among all years so good to have one if yours breaks.A $10 part but if you dont have one on hand you could wait weeks for one if out of stock. Bullet connectors under tank are part of the side-stand circuit and occasionally get loose and bike won't run till crimped. I would check wheel bearings and engine mount bolts ASAP.Bearings have been known to be under-greased from factory leading to premature failure. Some owners find it hard to grease the front nipple of the driveshaft ,so I would make SURE it is well lubed. There's a long list of farkles and upgrades but these will get you started. Also check this out, http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5691 Enjoy her, they're a sweet ride! Pics please. Michael
  3. PS I may have a spare pan gasket if you damage yours.
  4. Lee Moto International should have those in stock.I've never seen this gasket as most of us find it easier to drop the pan. There is a paper gasket between the block and pan and can be re-used several times if handled with care. Also a hose clamp around the new filter to prevent it from backing out is advised.I don't have one on mine FWIW.And make sure you have the old gasket from the old filter.Dont ask me how I know this. Also cleaning the mesh filter and check with a magnet for particles would be good practice once a year.
  5. Yer sayin your wife has nice cans? Salute
  6. PS Your probably gonna do them anyway, but a reminder that it's a good time to grease rear drive and rear wheel bearings.Bearings tend to come undergreased from factory and mine failed at about 18K.Coulda been bad Docc wrote up a great article of "Things to do with the rear wheel off".
  7. I use the red stuff.Hmm can't remember name brand or specs.I'll have a look when I get home.Sorry to be to so technical. Someone smarter than me will chime in.Too bad ,I was in Phili last week to work ,woulda been happy to help .
  8. That would be awesome.
  9. My thoughts too Jaap, but awfully thick to fit in those forks, but I don't know the internals of these beasts. "or something" Ha!
  10. Thanks FG.He was given a box of parts, nuts and bolts with no indication as to what they were.So that very may be the case. He's an experienced home mechanic who's retired and spends most of his time restoring old European bikes. But he is using German(he doesn't speak it) documents and manuals(where the bike came from) and Guzziology to reverse engineer what's been done to it in the past.He has dozens, and I mean DOZENS of Triumphs,Nortons,Guzzi,Indians and Vintage Harleys in his barn. Most of them runners and registered that he restored or fixed up,probably one of the largest collections in the country.Hope to shoot all of them and write an article about the collection.Cant tell from the phone pic but it's coming along nicely, should be rolling in a few weeks and I'll get some better pics. It's got a lot of nice parts and mods done to it already,....
  11. A friend of mine is restoring a 85 Le Mans for a friend of his.He was given several boxes of parts and a frame and a "have at it" slap on the butt.I'll post some pics as he progresses but he was wondering what this part was.Anyone know? Wheel ,axle assembly?
  12. We're all assuming it's the clutch(my first guess) without seeing or hearing it.Could you post a video of it? May help.Any members nearby that could take a look?
  13. Pro Pilot rebuilt my forks and maybe the rear shock because of what I believe was covered under warranty, leaking fork seals when the original owner of the bike had it.I am very happy with the how it handles and rides.I spoke with the owner about re-doing my Speed Triple forks a while back and remember him being pleasant to talk to but I havent done business directly with him yet. FWIW Can anybody confirm if that was an official recall?Would assume it wouldn't still apply today.
  14. Great news Lee.Glad it's all coming together. They are quite fun beasts to ride, especially when they're able to breath with aftermarket cans. Also the X-over and PC111 or re-flashed ECU help widen the fuel response once tuned properly. Im busy the next couple weeks but I'll try to get up there to do a scouting trip for a group ride. Also Manic Salamander makes heavy bar ends that smooth out vibes.I have the Throttlemeisters .They make a heavyweight bar end ,so you get that and the throttle lock advantage. http://throttlemeister.com/app/inventoryapp/moto_guzzi/inventory_view/83-0-246-1.html
  15. Good on ya holding yur ground John.I hate it when someone acts like their doin you a favor by takin your money.Understood it's part of the negotiation process there but I see that here in the States also. If you need help with a bike from the States let me know as Ive bought many bikes on Ebay with great results.Griso's are common(relatively for a Guzzi) and cheap here. Good Luck!
  16. Wot Tom says + Very easy to strip the nut on the bleeder.Note post #21 here,.. http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16028&hl=mznyc&page=2
  17. Count me out,deal breaker.
  18. Good to know that the Highland Cow still grazes here! How much longer are you there for John? Working? What's life there in general? Feel free not to answer, just curious about life for a Westerner in the Middle East.
  19. Works for me Lee,did about 6 hrs on Monday. The most important mod I have put on all my bikes is a throttle lock.I took mine off the Ducati whilst working on a problem and had a pretty sore wrist after 5 hrs yesterday.
  20. Isn't there a gasket required for the CPS?I thought I replaced one in there when doing my overhaul this year, could be wrong, but I'll ck pics and paperwork,...
  21. Look like a very nice bike. http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17926
  22. I agree changing the fluid if it hasnt been done in the last few years would be worth a try!
  23. Possible and likely but I have the original Spark 500 in my '02. As long as you give it an overnight charge if it's been sitting for more than a couple weeks, it starts right up! So HOW the battery is cared for is as important as how OLD it is.
  24. What's you're mileage vuzzi? These could be the problem.I would try them in this order, Grease the external linkage as discussed. Check linkage adjustment. Clutch MC bleed. Take off PS cover and inspect pawl spring and arm. If none of those work you could also try to adjust the eccentric adjuster, most have had varying degrees of success with that . After that, clutch plates could be possible cause if they have high mileage on them. I did all the above to cure false neutrals and it turned out to be a bad PS assembly.Don't know what went wrong in there, still haven't figured it out yet,but put another one on and she's shifted perfectly since.
