Measure before AND after removing lock nuts. You want them to retain the same place after re-assembling A Jaap and Paul say.I removed wheel and swing arm and lifted the rear from the sub frame with an overhead lift, cheapo from Harbor Freight.

Couldn't hurt. Amazing how great the internet has expanded communication. This wouldn't have been flagged so quickly 15 years ago.Hope no one was ripped off.

Nice Joe Would be a good opportunity to re-paint the rear box, paint is shite on these.

I had asked what this procedure involved a while ago as it can up time to time without pics, but no responses,so hope to learn something here from this when it's time for mine to be done. I cant offer much help but I do wonder why you left the drive shaft attached.Seems like it would be easier to handle without it there and you could inspect/lube rear splines.Just a thought,...

Downloaded the Mac vers and it wouldn't open.Got a "it might be damaged or incomplete" error message.

No Steve. The Guzzi kit includes the Ti silencers and ECU only.

Here it is,From Dan Prunuske Here is a simple test to check the starter, solenoid and battery. 1. Pull the starter relay. 2. Turn kill switch off. Turn ignition off. 3. Using a big screwdriver or a needle nose, carefully, but very firmly, jump the 2 big terminals on the solenoid. One of these goes directly to the battery, the other, directly to the starter motor. 4. Does it crank? If so, rule out battery and starter. 5. Disconnect the small lead to the solenoid. (This comes from the start relay) Using a test lead, jump from the small terminal on the solenoid either directly to the battery positive terminal or to the big solenoid terminal connected directly to the battery. 6. Does it crank? If so, rule out the solenoid. If all the above tests are OK, you almost certainly have a short in the wiring.

My solenoid was isolated as the culprit when I was blowing fuses when hitting the starter a couple years ago.Think it shorted when removing battery and touched the ECU ground.Replaced solenoid and no problems or blown fuses in thousands of miles.Relay Dan talked me through the diagnostics and was dead on.I'll see if I can find that correspondence.

If nothing had been changed and bike just sat no reason for anything to be shorting and blowing fuses. But cleaning and checking connections cant hurt.If you need a battery the Odyssey 545 is highly recommended,I have one sitting in the closet by the original Spark is in the bike working just fine,.... Couple of out members are 'lectrical experts,so Im sure they'll help.

Regulator or battery?Try having the battery load tested to see if its healthy You will blow fuse trying to start with near dead battery.charging a battery that's on it's way out ,will work for a short period but die quickly.

I just replaced mine with the MG part from MG Cycle.I tried to get the NAPA equivalent but they didn't have it in stock so got the Guzzi part.for 10-15 buck more I was happy not to modify.Im gonna wipe some kind of protectant on it whenever I have the tank off to hopefully keep it from cracking.

Guzzi Ti's.There was a set in the forum classified section.Get em while you can, getting rare.
-
Whoa,ya what the heck are those?Looks fuel related.
-
Be careful removing/installing ECU, because the battery leads will short if you touch them.ALWAYS have the Neg of the battery disconnected when working on the ECU.I disconnect both leads before touching it.

Going from Scura to Twin plate I used the twin plate button that came with it and a 2plate hub.The stock Scura hub should be the correct hub for a RAM.I think some who have exchanged the Scura for aftermarket RAM didn't change hubs. Can any one confirm?Keith did you have pics from the switch out? Iknow what the single plate hub looks like,...now. Maybe a call or email to Agonstini,TLM or MG Cycle as they sell the kits.

Ha ha,no many more have had a lot more problems than me.I think Chuck's Rosso was a lot worse from abuse when he got it and now sorted. Would have never happened without Jaap's forum and the people who support it.Luckily Im too stubborn or foolish to take the advice of the member who tell's me to stop dicking with it whenever I have a problem. I only changed the 3 springs in the cover. But PO replaced the pawl arm to corrected part.I'm gonna have Charlie Cole look it over and see if he can see something obvious. Thanks!

Over a year and a half it was down Docc. I still need to do a comprehensive write-up with pics. That thread dealt with issues as I ran into them and is not cohesive. Basically,I started missing shifts up and down. Pawl and spring had been replaced by PO and shifted trouble free for me for several seasons. I checked and replaced all springs in cover. Checked shift linkage, changed to Moto-Bits All internals of the cover looked good. Bled clutch, changed fluid Changed to Redline in box and diff. Changed single stock clutch to used 08 Griso 2-plate with new friction plates. None of this worked. Bought a used 04 Trans with cover. For yuks ,put cover on my box and it shifts perfect! Have several hundred miles on the new set-up and it's been trouble free

I'll have my schedule kinda sorted in a couple weeks ,thinking 2-3rd week of May before the summer crowds invade the Adirondacks. I forgot you got a hot long distance ride! 1K miles for you,so offer will stand if you change your mind and you want to fly.

Thanks Jason, The fogged up phone pic doesn't do it justice, she really cleaned up nicely! It's been quite an adventure and Ive learned a lot along the way. Thanks to the help, knowledge and encouragement from you and many others.Funny thing was after all that work it was the pre-selector cover all along as I had suspected at first. No matter as I wanted to change out the twin plate for the stock single. Still thinking of a get together for the V11's in the Lake George area in mid May .You'd be welcome to the Scura or ST4 if you can make it. Posting ideas in a few weeks,.... Michael

Very Nice, low mile Cafe Sport on Ebay,... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Moto-Guzzi-Cafe-Sport-/251217990319?pt=US_motorcycles&hash=item3a7dc252af

Cant agree more.Guzzi, even with the standard suspension is still superior to the Speed 3 ,but it's got a great motor and looks.Built like brickhouse.
-
And dry! That is the condition that will deteriorate rubber seals over time.Maybe factor $500-1K into the deal in case seals need to be replaced in future.Just forks and brakes would cost a few hundred if done by a shop.Internal ones,ah,...more.Not likely, but possible.
-
I think a well informed buyer is a smart one.Only way to do that with time and research.Good on you not running out an making an emotional purchase ,as I did with my Scura.Dont regret it,got a great, unique, blast to ride machine, but with a little more time would have found the same with a better value. I wouldn't be too concerned with low miles but it is a legitimate question about seals.the main question would be what kind of environment was it stored in.I would definitely chuck the tires of a 8 year old bike.Fork, brake, clutch, engine ,tranny, seals could have dried out.Unlikely, but something to consider. If you can get a test ride and get it up to full tempeture and everything is dry,it may be fine.Just no way of knowing till you have a considerable amount of time with it.
