  1. Please BBG!
  2. Hey Tod Good choice in bikes .I have an 04STS and would love to have a Factory RSV.No room or $
  3. Anytime Paul. In retail sales we used to call people who would argue over every penny ,"biters".Chomp, chomp, chomp, every penny. They would try to wear you down, very annoying. What I do is ,do the research, know what the real markets bear, then make an offer, always for cash and ready to do it immediately .If they say no,I thank them, shake their hand and walk away. In the hypocritical department,I do have some bling, that offer no functional value.A MG Carbon Fiber Fairing and a Stucci CF Alt cover,as the crap paint quite often peels from some bikes. Keep posting any questions, and congrats on the joining the loony bin,er ,ah ,... club
  4. Sannyasin, Oil pressure gauge is a cool idea,Ive been wanting to do that for years.Member Ryland did a great write-up on an install and I think he has a kit on his site. There was no presumption on my part of your experience.I assume everybody does some homework and makes an effort to do research, but with so much information out there it's impossible to know every tidbit ,about every aspect of the bike.I hate the forum Nazis' "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION" orders.Find that to be quite rude. That wasn't my intention. http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5692 This is a good place to start about common problems, really, it should scream at the top of a page for people doing research, if you haven't seen it yet,I wish I had done a "Scura" search before I bought my Scura. If I had ,I would have saved myself time and $$$ if I had known about the bad clutch's in them.I would have held out for a Nero/Rosso..The Roper Plate is mentioned in there. I had never owned a Guzzi, but was an experienced sport tourer when I came here. Many people have been more than generous, that have much more experience with bikes and Guzzi's than I.Because of that I feel that it is Karma passing on info to people asking for opinions.Although I know a lot more about the bike now, most here will know more than me.What I do know is value, without the emotional/ ethereal factor.I can't explain it but just can't help myself searching ads and reading them for the past 7 years.I've only bought one,but there's always that special one, around the corner.Kinda like the women in my life. I'm with you, bone stock bikes attract me,bling doesn't.Now functional improvements are a different thing. The uprated suspension is quite helpful when hitting medium to high speed turns. It's just planted. The standard suspension is quite good, but as you know, suspension is the best investment you can make for the $.The uprated Ohlins is a good value, not visual bling. The engine in my opinion,is lacking down low for usable power, below 4-5k.Mid-pipes and cans and PC's greatly help improve driveabilty below those revs.Again,a practical improvement, not aesthetic.I have stock exhausts on all my other bikes, but they all have at least 100HP and smooth across the rev range,so more than enough power everywhere for me,fully loaded, for sport-touring. I like to ride longs days.So comfort is important. The seat, foot controls and raised bars do that. You may find that the bike bone stock will work for you, comfort, powerwise.I wish mine did,I would have saved some money. But it is such a fun, unique bike it was worth the tweaking to get it to fit me. Like you farkles just don't get me excited, but a good deal does I'm not sayin the bike your lookin at is not a good deal, just that I've seen examples similar to it for less.Like you said, average price is $4700.00,so add on $5-600 for condition you'd still be looking at $5200-5300.In the dead of winter, the softest market. Good luck, whether with this bike or another,I'm sure it'll work out great. Michael
  5. Found it.Jan/Feb 2013. You can read it here for free. They only allow you to zoom in on 3 pages for free. The article is 4 pages so choose your zoom carefully. http://gb.zinio.com/reader.jsp?issue=416247142&o=int&offer=359663026&pub=359663025&prev=subhttp://gb.zinio.com/reader.jsp?issue=416247142&o=int&offer=359663026&pub=359663025&prev=sub
  6. What month issue is that Guzz? Thanks
  7. Some members have reported seeing the oil light occasionally flicker. The Roper Plate is essentially a metal gasket/spacer that sits between the lower block and oil pan.It is fabricated by Pete Roper the master Guzzi wrencher in Australia .The way the oil pick up system is designed,if your going up an incline or let the front wheel get higher than the rear ,the pick up tube wont be able to grab the oil because it the oil sloshes away from it.The Plate evens the distribution of the fluid in the pan ,allowing constant oil flow to motor.Ive never seen an oil light,as most dont, but some have or install as a precaution. They are available through several sources.Much more information in the forum,... A member just bought an 03/04 Rosso Corsa in mint condition for $5500.00,a great deal, but there are other ones out there,I'm always scanning the ads, just window shopping, but I'm a well informed buyer if I decide to buy another some day.You have a buyer's advantage being winter. At 6K you are in an Ohlins equipped price range,a big improvement from a standard model.FWIW
  8. Ah, never let a little snow stop me from a ride.Actually quite mild, upper 40's and roads clear of ice with a little salt/sand in spots , so got the Scura and Duc out for a short ride to keep the fluids movin, top off with fuel and a shot of fuel stabilizer.
  9. As a self-proclaimed deal seeker that I am,I would be looking to pay 5K or under for an 02, non-Ohlins,few farkles,mid-winter in Northern climes bike.Ive seen 02's in good condition with more miles go for under 4K.At 20K miles they're broken in and usually sorted. If you can be patient, in the 6-6.5K range ,you should be able to find a good condition Ohlins model. My
  10. Ray I rode a rented R1100R for a few thousand miles back in the early 00's and thought it was great but not for me.Ive been riding VFR's for about 15 years and thought they were a perfect sport-tourer. The R handled better than anything I had ridden and I just flew done mountain roads at speeds near or faster than the VFR because of a great suspension and boxer gyro effect, but I hit the rev limiter numerous times looking for more power,it's all down low.Useful but not exciting. The Guzzi is more rev happy, handles great but not as comfortable.I can stay in the saddle all day but wouldnt choose it for a week or more of touring or commuting. The BMer would be better suited to that. MHO,.....
  11. Yes Yes go see the Key Maker !!
  12. Haydn was correct. The seat lock removes easily and a locksmith can make a key from that for $40.00 in NYC.A local offered to do it for $25.00,but couldn't get to them and they were 30 miles away. So if you dont have a copy,do it now,or trace your copy and/or photograph it.Will make life a lot easier down the road if you happen to lose yours. Thanks again to all Michael
  13. Went up to the Western Highlands in March up to Skye and the first thing I thought of is all these off shoot, single track dirt roads that go back into cold, dark, scary looking glens and how cool would it be to have a Stelvio or gulp,..a GS to go exploring! May be some of the best dual sport scenery in the world.
  14. Nice Mini-Documentary on John Britten and his trip to Daytona, other than the rectifier failing that he didnt build he would have beaten a factory bike and rider,.....easily. http://www.motorcycledaily.com/2013/01/three-part-john-britten-biography-video-series-incredible-story-of-a-motorcycle-genius/
  15. Lee it's about a month old but this listing for a parting out has instruments in it. http://www.mgnoc.com/classifieds.html#For_sale
  16. It was quite impressive watching Lewis ride that thing to it's limits.Shame the Guzzi racing program is dead.Maybe if the new lines are successful Piagggio will re-invest that $ into race development I always thought John Britten was brilliant and a revolutionary.Gotta love that ,thumb yer nose to the tradition, attitude .Like most individuals who challenge convention and corporations,it's a long uphill battle to success.(Watch "Tucker"sometime, brilliant movie). But having a vision and putting that dream in motion is only a beginning.Failure is part of the process.Dont think any new idea was finished on it's first try.If John had lived ,I think we would have seen many more great things. The Britten bike worked,it just needed more time to develop.Amazing what he accomplished in a relatively short time without 10's of millions of dollars behind him
  17. Some of you may have seen this already, pretty cool.Just mute the sound as it's horrible music.Hate music over bike videos!!!If anyone has a link to this with sound please post up.
  18. She almost running too good.maybe I'll jinx it trying to give her some more bollocks ? Plan on gettin them on this winter.Hopefully you'll sell yours before that happens !
  19. Peter @ Reboot is a great reliable, bloke.+++ The other sources suggested are also great.
  20. If it's Ed's it will be well sorted,as he's one of the top Guzzi guys in the country. The MG Ti kit is nearly unobtainable now so a big plus.
  21. ***Update*** John from motorcyclekeys.com sent me this, "All of the locks on your bike contain all 6 tumblers so just take any lock to the locksmith along with the key blanks. I will include key cutting info to aid the locksmith." I have the helmet lock off and at a local locksmith and he's looking at it tomorrow, should know by then if it's possible to make key from helmet lock.If not a locksmith near where bike is garaged will come and make one for ignition on site/on bike for @ $125.00,not bad for the price if stupidity. I'm sure by spring my original one will show up.
  22. What about riding it down to Falkirk to Jim Allan's and sell it on consignment? Looks like that's your closest MG dealer .Would probably get at lot more eyes on it and potential buyers.I think the remoteness may definatley dissuade possible buyers.Ive bought several bikes on Ebay unseen in the flesh, but that might not be for everybody.Wish I could pick it up Rob,but I have a Blackbird sitting in Glasgow that I bought for touring Europe that sits as Ive been trying to get insurance for me a foreigner.
  23. Yup John the locksmith who is selling the blanks said that it should work cut from the other locks.I'll be looking for a locksmith tomorrow.http://www.motorcyclekeys.com/blanks4.html If that doesn't work Id be interested in your ZADI removal key .My Gfriend's in Glasgow maybe I could send you $ and you you drop it in the post to her? ,If it wasnt a big hassle for you,if so not to worry. The local locksmith option will probably work anyway, Thanks Michael
  24. I found a source online through a Wild Guzzi post. Seems like I might not be able to get a key cut from the helmet lock because the multi-function keys such as ours have different cuts for different functions.Ignition, helmet, seat lock.Havent proven this or been told by a locksmith that this is true but from a Google search from various MC sites of people who have ZADI keys and lost them, that was the theory.Have a couple of emails to locksmiths out asking that question and one of them sells the blanks,so he would probably know. Has anyone here HAD a key made from one of the other cylinders? Also seems from the search that Triumph who uses ZADI locks for some of their bikes, can have a key made from Vin # as they saved that info in a data base, don't know if Guzzi did that.
  25. Nice! Thanks!
