I bought a big bag of bolts and fasteners from Rick, some slightly charred from that bike,so if you want to donate to my spares shelf feel free to disconnect that switch!

Great, glad it worked out Rich.I havent heard of a ratchet spring breaking yet.Any one else? Jaap would it be possible to import the write-up into the "How to" section? Since Ive been in there so many times I wanted to do this as many new members have been having stuck shifting I thought it would help, but dont think I can improve much on Rocker's thread.

In the US that would be an 02 model, dont know if they were offered in Europe any earlier. Some of our East of the Pond members may be able to confirm or deny.May have been made in 01 but offered as a MY 02. By the way one of my favorite color combinations. That red is quite a beautiful finish!

The MPH bars work great for me .6'+ with long arms and have found it to be a perfect blend of sportiness and comfort for a long day.And have a OEM look.

Also Gotham,if you are going to look at it yourself,it really is very simple, here's the list,in order of how to get her off,...ah so to speak Put bike in Neutral Warm bike up to temp, dump trans box fluid save it if it's recent, replace if it been more than a couple seasons ***IMPORTANT*** Disconnect battery,Neg first, then Pos,be careful not to touch ECU leads. Take off starter cover Take off connections to starter Take off shock remote Disconnect neutral switch Remove starter Disconnect gear change linkage Remove the 11?! bolts that hold on cover, may have to tap off with a rubber mallet and yer in Take note of the position of the selection gears there should be two indents to indicate alignment Yours may have extra bracing that Guzzi added later, mine doesn't

I've been holding off comment as the old girls been in pieces in the garage for a better part of the year Feb-Sept I think it's now sorted and what a blast on the right road, just run er up to 5-7k and she's happy as a clam. Had three perfect rides this week, fall colors brilliant, perfect weather and a bike that works as it should.havent had that for almost three seasons, feels good :thumbsup Anyone thinking about doin the changeover to a twin plater should really consider it.Bike runs just a well without all the clatter of the single plate knocking at my engine cases. All you need is standard tools,a couple specialty tools for the clutch(which I'd be happy to loan out to members),a twin plate assembly , 2 friction plates.,a couple seals for piece of mind and set aside a few days to do it.took me so long waiting on parts from dealers, multiple mis-steps by them, and unanswered emails and phone calls .If you have all parts and tools together,8-16 hrs would be a fair estimate for a first timer. Isn't suede allergic the water? Doesn't it rain a lot in Northern Ireland ?

Torched tyre! playing on the track?......my tyres look worse than that after the post delivery ride home from the dealer. Ciao And here I was about to comment on a nicely used tire and a Willie War breaks out,... Oh the shame ,the shame,.....

PS,they are all twin plates except for the Scura,Rosso M,and Tenni. They are lighter and spin quicker and came from the racing bikes. Not the same as the race bikes but a similar but more flawed design. The Scura's seem to be the most problematic.I now have a 2-plate in there and feel little to no difference in how the bike feels and responds,..

Your problems shifting sounds very similar to mine and after another ride the other day it seems more specifically to be downshifting to 4th and sometimes 3rd. I think it's something in the selector mechanism. What wears out there? What to look for when I take the plate off. I've checked everything else and nothing is binding, the clutch hydraulics are working good and the clutch is not slipping or dragging. I don't have a spare preselector assy to try. Is this something that a better lubricant like Red Line can fix? I was surprized to find out mine had a single plate clutch. I thought all the V11 sports were dual disc. Which one is better and why. Alot of questions I know Warren If I had to apologize for asking questions,I'd be a apologizing 24/7 All of the things you mentioned I tried and still had the same results,if you havent yet,I know it's lengthly, but go back and read this thread.I dont know what went wrong in the pre-selector assembly. It looks fine and looks the same as the "new" one.I'm going to send it to a Guzzi trany specialist ,Charlie Cole and get his thoughts. He generally only works on 5-speeds,but Im gonna ask if he sees anything out of place. It's very simple, just a couple wheels,3 springs,a pawl arm and a couple other components. The parts individually are expensive, and finding just a cover assembly alone is nearly impossible. Most people parting a bike sell the cover with the box, which is what I did.I would remove it and take a look and see if anything looks out of place.I wish I could tell you what was wrong in the old cover, all I know is that with all the changes I did, only putting on a different cover corrected the problem. If you do get in there start a thread and the crazies will offer their opinions.

Another 5-6 hr ride and problem free,1 missed shift but relate that to rider laziness.Changed plugs, gaped valves while motor was out and bike is running awesome with a little burble/popping off throttle.Still have as yet to sync TB and set TPS which should correct that.About 20 miles from home she started dieing below 4 K.Pulled over and found a loose TB boot. There was a weird sound ,like a squeaky belt,as soon as I restored boot noise went away and bike ran fine again. What would cause this noise?

Thanks Docc,I'll take losing most of the year if this works. She's been down for the better part of two and a half years. I got so comfortable after a few hours riding yesterday I came in hot in a corner and gave a downshift too much and got a good head shake, wah hoo,but she hit the gear....Good feeling running her like she should be run and not squirming waiting for a false neutral on every approach. Leaving for 2 weeks Sun or Monday for work so hope to get a ride in before I go as after that it's a crap shoot up here,... Michael

Well a beautiful day here in the North East, low 60's and sunny and fall colors peaking. Gave her a good thrashing, stop'n'go traffic in a local village,a little construction slow down and 70 mph twisties for several hrs and,....NO MISSED SHIFTS!!!!. Problem had always shown itself when warmed up,and she was definitely up to temp. So the problem may have been the pre-selector assembly all along. The new one appeared to be the same and alignment of marks identical, but something must have been wrong in there. I'll report back after a few more long rides, hopefully I can get a couple in as our season is coming to an end,....

Welcome Peter. Love the Netherlands,it's people and culture Us Yanks could learn a thing or two from ya'll. This is the best place for V11S info if you decide to go that way.The Sports are going for cheap now but that'll change with the world economy improving in the next few years and supply will shrink.Get 'em while you can! Hmm,Got the "New" pre-selector cover on and a short test ride.No problems and I tried to short-shift it but it wouldn't hit a false neutral.I'll get it out tomorrow for a longer ride as it'll be warmer and I'll get her nice and hot as it seems the problem appears when that happens. If it is the cover, either something went out of spec or adjustment. It started to miss shifts before I opened it and had been a mostly reliable shifter for several seasons,so I'll eliminate anything I might have done when I pulled the cover. The PO replaced the pawl spring but it shifted pretty well when I acquired it so I'll assume it wasn't anything he did. Maybe shoddy tolerances from the factory? May explain a lot of bad shifters here in the Tech form who didn't have broken springs,....

Update Got a used box from Mark at Moto Guzzi Classics.Says it was off a crashed front end , low mileage 03.Since he's in Ca, is this any of ours? Selector wheels side by side look the same.Old box has Redline, new one, something else. My theory is the box or the pre-selector is bad.The easiest thing to do is put the new cover on the existing box and see what happens. If it doesnt help,I'll drop the new box in and cross my fingers,........ To be continued,........

Keep in mind MF that an open airbox is very loud whilst on the gas.I have a modified airbox from the PO in my Duc and it is only a 4X6 rectangle cut on the top of the stock airbox. The intake noise is louder than the Remus exhaust. Not race loud, but slightly louder than I would like.Pulls like a freight liner though,Im thinking of goin back to the stock airbox. Just a note for anyone thinking of goin in this direction. Michael

With those symptoms and mileage ,it could be the friction plates.Try all the exterior stuff,flush/ bleed clutch fluid and see what you get.No fluid in the clutch housing? Pull timing hole cover and look inside with a flashlight there should be no fluid in there
-
That is awesome! Some of the most "thinking outside the box" we've had here in a while.Let us know how it works out.
-
How many miles on it? Do you know if the friction plates have ever been replaced? What you can check on the outside, Linkage working and not touching the porkchop on the down shift and sub frame on the upshift. Put bike on rear stand, put in gear and pull clutch while turning rear wheel.Wheel should move freely.I have long arms but if you dont get a friend to help you. If those are OK,you'll have to look at the pre=selector assembly. Not a big deal, shouldnt take that long.Disconnect battery, free shock remote, disconnect leads to starter, remove starter, shift linkage,11 screws on the cover and she's off.

Scura,Mandello,Tenni owners if your thinkin of going to a twin plate s

Anybody have any experience with his clutch friction plates? Skeeve,I did mention that we have been selling transmissions here for about 20% less and he gave me some extra items in a package deal,so it brought the price of the box down to about $425.00 which is what I think in line to what members have been selling them here from parted out bikes.
