Thanks foto, Good to know. From you that's a good endorsement -
This seller has a 03 V11 with 10k on the clock that he is parting out.He has a twin plate set-up if anyone is thinkin about changing over to this from a single plate. He also has engine, pegs, rear drive, drive shaft, and re-lines clutch friction plates that he claims are superior to anything out there.I bought a transmission from him yesterday but have no previous experience with him but spoke on the phone and seems like solid individual FWIW. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Moto-Guzzi-V11-sport-clutch-assembly-ring-gear-flywheel-pressure-plates-/320989707682?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item4abc7a3da2

Looking for known good shifting transmission for a V11S from an 02-04 bike. Thanks Michael

Uh-Oh,Took her out yesterday and after she warmed up she started missing shifts again.Mostly upshifts,sooo,... Im gonna pull off cover again and see if anything looks amiss that I may have missed on previous attempts. If it is the dogs as has been suggested here before, can I see them with the cover off.Not sure what they'll look like. If I had a known good box on hand I would slap that pre-selector cover on mine to see if it's that.If not, install the box.If I cant find a used one the next few months I'll have to send it off to Harper's as they're the only known reputable shop that I could find that rebuild 6-speeds. Wouldnt surprise me if Guzzi threw in the of the problematic pre-02 box's in mine, as it may have been what was lying around the factory that week. Eh another Grappah Tony?!!! I think Ive checked everything outside of the box. Feel free to make any suggestions,... Also it's been running great before and after this project, but after an hr or so ride and a stop at a friends for an hr it was trying to die below 5k.Maybe a hose came loose.Gonna stay away from it for a few days as I think that would be best for her and me

Thanks Jason, You and Pete definitely helped a lot and appreciate it.Not all crusty ole Guzzi owners are as patient or positive as you guys.(But most are) I'll be taking her out again in a day or two after making some linkage adjustments yesterday,so hope to have a report at that point.

I dont have a full weekend open till November,so dont think I can try to organize a weekend-2 day meet this year but am currently looking to get a one day event on SUNDAY OCTOBER 7TH.Location TBD by interest and location of members but would say Harriman State Park would be a good location for me and New York area riders.I'm working at Westpoint Saturday till about 4-5pm so maybe we could meet for dinner, single malts and lies .Lotsa cheap motels in the area and if enough interest ,I'll look into finding rooms. Hudson Valley and Western Ct are also possibilities. Fall color will be peak and if weather is average should be perfect leather weather. Ive tried to do this the last few years and weather has conspired against it but the North East has never had a V11S themed get together so maybe we could get a hall pass from the better half, take a deep breath and squeeze into the ole cowhide, get out of our orthopedic beds and show some pride in our favorite ride!

Update !!! Fitted a Moto-bits kit to bike this week as Ive never found the positions to be perfect for me.Took her out for a ride and it's much better.Still hit a few FN's but think tweaking the levers slightly may get it closer. It was a perfect fall day here, mid sixties so didnt get it hot as bad shifting was worse when hot when problem started. But I think the combination of new friction plates, better feeling ,correctly positioned rear-sets and being more deliberate with shifts(pull clutch in,shift, wait half a beat and let clutch out)more so with the 2-plater,seems to feel a lot better. I'm going to risk upsetting the Guzzi gods and christen it fixed! Thanks to all who helped and offered encouragement. I'll write up a summery soon with pics for anyone wanted to change from a single to twin plate set-up it may help them from some of the aggravation of lost time looking and waiting for correct parts I experienced.

Moderators could you move this to "Technical Topis"? Thanks
-
Tried it with FireFox and it didnt work either, probably doin maintenance.

Unless your the tech crew for Apollo 13 I dont think you could get the clamp on without dropping the pan.
-
Yup,bikes I leave up near New Paltz/Woodstock Awesome - I am in Ancram, right across the River from you! Cool I try to mix it up by riding in Dutchess and Cloumbia Co's .If I can get my shifting corrected I hope to have her over there.if not the Ducati will have to do,....

You can get a pretty good idea if there's fluid in the clutch housing by looking in the flywheel sighthole with a flashlight or pull the starter to look at the starter gear(better)
-
I havent tried gettin to the pads with the wheel on so I cant give advice on replacing them whilst still on the bike but it is relatively easy with the rear wheel removed. If you havent checked or greased bearings recently or ever it would be a good time to do that and clutch fluid as Docc's list suggests.I know your just trying to do what should be a simple job but a couple of hours more could save you time and aggravation down the road. The MG workshop stands go for about $100 used on ebay and you will use it a lot if doin your own work,or maybe a combination of car jack and 2X4's you could get the rear up. 04 V11sport loses power and starts misfiring at trailing part throttle
mznyc replied to CzDavec's topic in Technical Topics
Dave Im outa town for a week but if you need a test ECU I can send you my 'Race' ECU if you havent found one by them.Anyone who's changed over to the Ti's and Race ECU should have a stock one,so maybe someone will chime in.Mine ran better with the stock one so I left it in. -
Tranny Rebuild, anyone know if anyone is offering this service currentl
mznyc replied to mznyc's topic in Technical Topics
Great Thanks, I asked to talk to Art to the women who answered the phone and she told me I had to bring the bike in.I told her that wont be possible as I live 200 miles away and wanted to talk to him to give symptoms and get a guess of time involved.(I had hoped to pull box and ship it).She said she would try to have him call me so we'll see. Thanks for the help,... If any one knows another option ,please chime in case this doesn't work out. -

Thanks GM I'll try them Do you remember what the service cost,if you dont mind me asking? Thanks Michael -
I have exhausted most of my options to correct bad shifting and may have to try to have the box rebuilt if the last few desperate tries dont work. Charlie Cole only does 5-speeds Email into MPH ,havent heard back Gonna try Micha at MI I'll try Guzzitech Searching Ebay for a used box nothing yet,has to be US only as shipping from anywhere else makes it prohibitive Thanks Michael

Hi Dave,Welcome. I'll just offer moral support here as I believe your on the right track and all the suggestions are good. Guzzitech is fueling nirvana for most, but agree the bike has to run right ,first ,before going that way.I think they are re-mapping stock ECU's now also Tom,would love to try one but holding off because off multiple projects . PS I understand not having a Guzzi dealer near you, closest one for me is 60 miles and not a great reputation,so being self sufficient is the way to go for us Guzzi owners and you have come to the right place for help, and most, like 99.9% of us, enjoy and look forward to helping others,so dont let anyone discourage you from coming here again and again with questions. -
Hi Rich The factory sent some bikes with the filter on top of the frame(such as mine),some on the bottom.Don't know why but I think your theory is plausible.

Hi Brad I believe it calls for setting the Co level and TPS to a certain setting. No valve setting suggested AFAICR.Cant set the Co level without Axione or VDST softeware.I just made sure my valves and TPS were set for a well running machine before I installed the cans.I swapped back and forth between the "Ti" and stock ECU's and found that the stock ran better all around. Many other owners have found this to be true. Others have tried to eliminate ping with various solutions, aftermarket pistons, dual spark plugs,PC3,jailbroken ECU's,high octane, fuel, aftermarket mid pipe,to varying degrees of success.Dont know if anyone has definitively corrected it. Myself I know where the pinging occurs and just ride around it without thinking about it on 87 octane.I do have a Mistral X-over and PC111 waiting in the wings though,... I'm going on vacation tomorrow,if no one chimes in I'll dig up my copy and scan it for ya. Many owners go with the Raceco spec valve lashes .20/.25 . I think thats fair MPG,could be improved upon with some of the options mentioned above. Michael

Ok the good news. Runs great,no leaks. Also the clacking single plate noise is gone, just the clicktey sound of euro spec valves and boomy Ti's. The bad, Still shifting badly. Brought her back in and thought the clutch lever didnt quite have the resistance it should so bleed it again and now getting good pressure. Also tightened up shift linkage. Checked fluids levels and forgot I dumped the rear diff at the start of this ,duh,. Hadn't gone very far, just around the neighborhood for 10 mins, slow speed, and there was some fluid in there so dont think I did any damage.Dont have any more Redline. What could I get at an auto parts store that would be an acceptable replacement? Maybe original push rod is not the same length as a twin platers.Doubt this as it does disengage drive fully,no drag. Or a dog tranny from factory.Unlikely and will guess the clutch and diff fluid will do the trick.

Oh ya Keith I learned my lesson about fresh rubber many years ago.I ride them on the first 50-100 miles like Im on ice. It's raining so I wont be going out blasting since I spent so much time cleaning everything underneath that I couldnt get to previously with tank, bodywork, and engine in the way.Just a slow moving test to see if she makes any strange noises,engages/disengages smoothly. If she passes that then I'll build up to a more aggressive ride.

Well she's back together and turned key on,fuel pump fired and no leaks.Couldnt start her up cause it's 2am and bikes at a rented garage down the road with a bunch of neighbors around it. Tomorrow's the big day, test ride.
