  1. WOW... in 1st gear, good effort. My thoughts exactly. I would not find that therapeutic !!! Ha ha. No, the 290 miles was on a non-Guzzi with all gears working. Hi dp, I'm in New York and may be able to help ya.Ive had the pre-selector cover many times, not a big deal.PM me if you havent got it sorted yet,Think I have an extra pawl spring also. Michael
  2. Thanks Jason, Kiwi Roy suggested beefing up the alternator ground to an engine mount bolt also,so I think I'll look at the headlight also. Wish I had taken your advice to heat up starter gear bolts before attempting to remove ,live and learn,....
  3. Thanks,Jaap.I ordered it.
  4. Thanks Jaap, love S100 cleaner, didnt know about engine cleaner.Im gonna order a few cans.My Speed Triple also has a black engine so will come in handy.I'll see if I can find a reasonable price for a filter here if not I'll take you up on your generous offer. Thanks Michael
  5. No scraping, came out clean, just stripped when trying to remove. My crappy Craftsman wrenches strike again.Should have taken JRT's advice and heated bolts first!Im gonna chuck the whole single plate set up so not worrying too much about it's condition.Yup mice,my house is out in the woods and she's mostly been sitting in the shed for a year and a half since the shifting been shite,so a mouse family moved in,bummer as that filter had very little miles on it. The plan is to put in clutch, add and xtra ground for regulator, small fusebox, heated grips, clean all wires, frame, engine.grease all bearings and driveshaft.flush all fluids.balance tb's,check valve lash,TPS,fuel, air filters, new tires, check brake pads ,service calipers, repaint alt cover.Whew! Over the summer I'll do a front end service, check grease head bearings, dump fork fluid . Anyone have a recommendation for cleaning the engine and trans housing?
  6. **Update** I lifted rear of the bike with factory stand, while the front sits in a chock and bars strapped to lift. Removed rear wheel, swing arm, disconnected wiring,.Once I got the transmission free and mounts it just took a car jack under the sump to get the right height to slide the motor free of the studs.just a slight up and down till I got it right.once free a little wiggling and pulled sump towards my body with right head swinging underneath spine.carried to bench a few feet and wasn't as heavy as I expected.im 6'1" 195 lbs so anyone reasonably strong should be able to move it.keep in mind bike was at chest level while on a lift.from the floor this would be much more difficult.to get it back in I have a floor stand lift that I'll pick up frame, put engine on a wood block and lower frame to it.when I get to a faster connection at work this weekend I'll upload some pics. More to follow,......
  7. Hi Dennis I can currently converting my Scura single plater to a twin plate.just pulled the motor last night.not that big a deal.Took me a few hours and I'd never done it before and I'm a average home mechanic not a multiple Guzzi/decade owner like many of our other members. I have not heard of the Tenni exploding, only the Scuras.Same clutch assembly as far as I know, don't know why the Scuras would be susceptible to failure. I have a thread in the technical section about this conversion,I'll be updating with pics and info soon if you want to get info if you've never pulled a Guzzi motor, such as me. I got my twin plater from reboot in France .peter is a great guy, real Guzzi enthusiast, and has a very good reputation amongst the members. All the V11's are nearly identical mechanically, but I would consider a model with the Ohlins, especially the 04's(Rossi,Nero,Cafe Sport) as most issues had been worked out and the extra K or so you'll pay will give you about 4k's worth of suspension .Best handling bike I've ever owned. Michael
  8. Guzzi video
  9. I just pulled mine out last night and the rubber was somewhat mashed, don't know if it's still serviceable. So we are sayin the V11 is not replaceable/available,but the Stelvio's is? Thanks Michael
  10. Same happened to mine.Someone suggested using penetrant overnight and it did the job. Also if your using Craftsmen(as I did) allen keys or bits they are not recommended as they tend to be incorrectly sized enough to get loose.
  11. Thanks for the advice guys. The tank, headers, and exhaust are already off.Exhaust came off surprisingly easy. Out of town for a while,so get back to it early April. Once I get a whole day in there ,should quickly get swingarm off and motor out with a help from a friend.Have a floor hoist that can lift from above. So tying to spine and lifting from above should make that easy to "crab the frame" Any more suggestions or tips feel free to chime in. More details and pics to follow
  12. And street biased tires Both 17's?
  13. Are they making cast wheels for the Stelvio now or is that aftermarket? One thing that never piqued my interest on dual sports bikes, spoked wheels. Very nice!
  14. Ya know that sumptin Ive been wantin to do for years.Though gettin the rear wheel off is no big deal,I was concentrating on the swingarm and driveshaft as Ive never removed them. Will definately make greasing it a lot easier Just wondering if there's any seals, washers, bearings that should get replaced while I have everything including trans out. Will do the cush mod though. Thanks
  15. Jeffro, When you get the locknut off adjust the adjust nut and watch your shift lever. It while go to a high or low point(depending on which way you turn it)then return. You adjust it to where you feel the engagement feel right for you.No specific amount of turns. Some say dont bother with this.I did but it didn't help with my missed shifts. Are you having shifting problems? There can be many causes if so. Michael You'll get more looks in the Technical section with this.
  16. I'm gonna pull swingarm and driveshaft when pulling motor for clutch replacement but can't find the "things to do whilst the rear wheel is off list".Was it Docc's? Want to put in an order for parts so I can do what should be done and hope not to be in there for a while.Rear wheel bearings were done about 1K ago.20k total mileage.
  17. Patient awaiting anesthesia, doctor nervously making first cut into metal of operation he has never performed Plan is to lift rear, with a floor stand, pull wheel, swingarm, driveshaft, tranny as to get in there check/lube swingarm bearings, give driveshaft a proper greasing. Then pull motor from the front put on bench to check and clean up weeps, etc as well as changing clutch. I didnt order any parts for rear end. What should I replace while in there? The rear wheel bearings were replaced about 1K ago so those should be good.Swingarm,Dshaft parts I should change?Garage is only a rented one for a few months so would be good to get to any maintenance items while I got her on a lift! Thanks Michael
  18. as I was removing the tank and petrol squited out. You did close fuel tap when removing the tank Pete? Dont ask me how I know this
  19. Thanks Guzz, I dont think the Scuras have the Lambda sensor.I'm sure somebody will confirm this.I will be adding a Mistral X-over also when I install.
  20. I recently bought a PC3 used in like new condition, but the original packaging is marked 2000-2001.Is there any difference with connecters or box for the 2002 on models?I know the maps will be just want to make sure hardware is compatible. Thanks
  21. Ive heard that before.I work in TV production and would bet that its legit.Sun and shadows are usually a tell-tale sign.Audio is also correct,my specialty field.
  22. Anyone know where this may have been shot? Alps? http://www.break.com/index/riding-on-the-edge-2289460
  23. I and others have cut through them with a dremel and out they come right quick. If your going to do one side would be a good idea to do the other one at the same time,if you weren't already planning on doing that.
