Heard from Pete at Reeboot. The unit he has is a 10 spring twin-plater from a low mileage Griso with correct pushrod hub.He said starter gear is clean and will inspect internals once disassembled .He said the 10 springers are much lighter than the 8's. What do you guys think? I have no experience with the feel and performance of the CARC clutch's .What about durability.PR,I know you have first hand knowledge of the Scura and Griso, so would appreciate your take on this swap Cheers Michael -

Found a used 98 California EV Clutch assembly.I think all Cali's are 5 speeders, any problem with fittment? Do I need anything else?P Roper said if I went with a Centuro clutch I would need a different clutch boss.Couldn't find that in MG parts diagram.Could someone enlighten a clutch newb what that is? The assembly I found looks good ,may need friction plates.Anyone use SD-Tech plates? MG cycle sells them so would assume they are reliable, just wondering if anyone has any personal experience of them. Thanks Michael -
I think he's sequestered in Crete from the impending collapse of the Greek government.Worse places to be stuck!

Keith did you use MG special tools during the operation or fabricate or buy generic ones? Yup I think it looks great, just want Micha and Pete Roper's opinions of twin vs single plate replacement. Pete? I have Pete's Scura, and he had the single plate changed out before he took delivery. He told me that while some people don't seem to have any trouble with them, he didn't want it to blow up when he was out in urine drinking country in the west.. H Ha Thanks Chuck I believe he said he changed it to a twin-plater in a thread could''t find it,hopefully I can get him to confirm/deny. -

Keith did you have some fitment issues with the RAM? The rumor is that Ram is owned by Guzzi, and with the problems of the original ,I'm reluctant to go there and they are about $700.00 US currently. Not eliminating them ,just want opinions on other possible options. I spoke to Charlie Cole at length today and he feels that when Guzzi went to the 8 spring single plate set-ups ,that they weren't adequate for the amount of torque the big bore motors produced and didn't last nearly as long as a twin plater.(His experience with his race bikes). For someone like me who only rides it for backroad scratching and very little stop'n'go riding a twin-plater and it's extra weight shouldn't be a problem. Also Pete Roper replaced his Scura's with a twin plater, good'n'nuff for me. If I do go to the trouble and expense to replace it,I dont want to have to go back in there for quite some time New Options feel free to add to it please RAM-$700.00 MG OEM 04 California Complete Kit Single Plate w/Steel Flywheel New-$831.00 MG OEM California Dual Plate Kit(not sure about year) New-$760.00 MG OEM 04 Lemans Dual Plate Kit(10 springer) New-$540.00 MG OEM 07 Norge Single Plate Kit New-$543.00 Used Ebay Probably find some of these cheap, but no guarantee what I'll get. The reputable shops,IE Reeboot ,MI,etc more $ but good reputations and you know what your gettin -
After trying multiple solutions to solve bad shifting,Ive been convinced by the experts to replace the clutch. Mike at MPH said they have replaced the bad single plate Rams with California single plate steel flywheel models. Before Greg Field left MI he said a single plater from a Norge may be a viable option, unfortunately he left before he could give me an answer,I'll email Micha and see what he says. Anybody replace one with one other than the standard Ram replacement? Have a source? Thanks Michael

I better check my engine mount bolts!

As much as I hate to see the romantic idea of the old factory with assembly techs with cigarets dangling from their mouths, hundred year old hand tools and hand-made bikes go to the wayside,it's obvious that to compete or survive,Guzzi does need a modern facility. and with scuRoos report promising, but not holding breath. http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults/General-news/2011/September/sep2111-moto-guzzi-celebrate-past-and-look-to-future/_/R-EPI-132808

Hi Docc, How would I know if the spring was broken? Clutch operation seems normal to me. Thanks Tom M(Thanks again Tom ) was kind enough to take a look at my cover as he's had his apart. We noticed that there seems to be some play in 2nd and 3rd gears when rotating gears by hand. They don't snap as cleanly into the indents on the underside of the gear wheel. Not sure this is normal or not but more slop than we expected.I'll try to post a video next week when I get home,Wed or Thurs,Still without power since last week in the aftermath of Irene Would love to aquire a whole cover and assembly as I dont trust this one if anyone knows where i can get my paws on one. -
Thank you for the input. On the '04 the clip-ons were attached above the top triple clamp where the tubes measure 54 mm. The Ohlins fork tubes are also stepped down in diameter below the triple clamp. I think if they were mounted below the clamp, it would be uncomfortable. Mounted on top should be perfect for me. Very close to the riding position on my R1100S. I have MPH risers and couldn't recommend them enough.very well made and perfect sporty, but much less pressure on wrists position for me.I'll take a look to see if I have an extra set of stock clip-on in the boxes of stuff I have. They are not uncommon on ebay

The new Norge is getting some nice reviews and a lot more versatile but more expensive than the Greesy. Not telling you anything you dont know,... http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/2011-moto-guzzi-norge-1200-gt-8v-review-91115.html
