  1. Another thing you'll never hear a redneck say, "You can't feed a dog that!"
  2. Do you know what you'll NEVER hear a redneck say? "Duct tape can't fix that" LMFAO!!!
  3. Hi Mark, It's missing in both directions. In post #1(I know it's lengthy, but wanted to give as much info as possible) I list what Ive done already.Multiple stabs at the eccentric adjuster. "What Ive done so far to try to fix this, Replaced fluid front and rear with Shockproof Inspected spring, not broken Lubed shift linkage Adjusted eccentric adjuster, every subsequent ride that showed symptoms I made small adjustments to this on the road and it helped but problems always reoccurred on subsequent rides." Springs are in from MI but wont be home for a couple of weeks.Hopefully we wont be buried under snow by then.
  4. Two countries separated by a common language! Be in Scotland Saturday for a week and there will be many "excuse me,pardon,I'm sorry's " and that'll just be trying to understand my girlfriend
  5. Hi Charley, Sorry to hear about the dreaded Italia Shrapnel. The pawl arm was also revised,so you may want to source another one. If you haven't found THIS yet,it is the definitive source for info concerning pawl spring failure causes and solutions. Good luck, shouldn't be a big deal to sort Michael
  6. Hi Haydn,Thanks for the info.Nobody had noticed(myself included) or mentioned the possible mismatch cover/assembly. Interesting and good info.I have inquired to Reboot and been looking out on Ebay but most people who have a parts bike generally want to sell engine and on trans as one unit.Anyone have a spare cover assembly lying around? Should probably ask MI.
  7. Hi Keith,as I was focusing on that eccentric adjuster,I was leaving the locknut off,but since have re-installed after a few more stabs at adjustments to no avail. At this point,I'm waiting for cover springs from MI,replace all three and re-assemble the whole assembly.Hoping that something was slightly miss-aligned/out of tolerance, causing excessive play. We'll see,...
  8. I'm glad I'm not his neighbor,ahhh...,we would have a problem.Good way to to piss off the locals. Sweet bike though.....
  9. Ya my thoughts exactly. "Michael, Removing one of the pins allows shift forks a bit of a different operating range. This can help a clearance related problem. Not that it will on yours I was just sharing our past experience. Micha " Keith had you ever about removing the rolled locating pin as a possible help to this problem? Since you and BG have spent some much time working on and researching this problem ,I figured if anyone knew about of it would be you or BelGuz.
  10. Thanks Hubert for input but aware of all these things.Dont plan on ruining the bike,(but hey anythings possible)fairly cautious, and open to advice of those such as yourself here, that know a LOT more about this bike than I.But that doesn't mean I won't take on a challenge ,or haven't done extensive reading, and research into the subject.Post #1 explains that Ive addressed some of your suggestions already. The pre-selector assembly is not rocket science, just something I'm missing or slightly out of tolerance. Hmm,quick shifting, reliable?,Please give me a dollar for everyone who's posted they've had shifting trouble on the forum and I'd be a hundredaire.Waay more than there should be for such an expensive beast. I have two options here.Fix it,or sell it(as the PO did).I choose #1.As Ratchethack once described me,if nothing ,I'm determined when I set out to do something.A few words of discouragement won't sway my stubbornness Keep the constructive or destructive ,(no matter),suggestions coming,....
  11. Hi Matt, Thanks for the update.Sorry things haven't improved, hope you don't have to resort to pulling the clutch I am going to disassemble the the whole pre-selector assembly and replace all three of the springs.I spoke to Micha at MI and he says they have removed that rolled locating pin and that has helped on some problematic shifting on some bikes.Maybe shoddy Guzzi tolerances are more forgiving when that pin is removed,I had never seen this mentioned here ,but he is considered a very reliable and knowledgeable source. The neutral light perplexes me also.It never had a problem before I took the cover off,and has the same symptoms as you since.Something must be slightly miss-aligned. As I've said previously,I'm eliminating my riding style as the cause as shifting was fine,(mostly),for four years. Michael
  12. Nope not me,didn't make it that far east.I stop for everyone that appears to be broken down on the side of the road, even Harleys PS You may want to check out one of Ryland's oil pressure gauges.Very neat and gives peace of mind,.... http://www.motratech.com/MGP-G10.html http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8249 http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8985
  13. Ive never had the oil light come on while riding, but does seem like a common problem from what Ive read here for years.Probably no damage as you had correct level before you left and no leaks Just got back from a ride in the Litchfield hills.Had no light come on,oh...,ya... ,had to ride the VFR as the Scura is down till I get the bad shifting corrected, I think I saw recently that Pete had some plates.Did you PM him?
  14. I agree that you have to adjust your riding style slightly, when getting on a Guzzi for the first time.I did,and had mostly a trouble-free 3 years and thousands of miles on her.But as of last season, the false neutrals became common ,and more importantly distracting,on just about every ride.I had one ,maybe two ,75-100 mile trouble free rides while trying to make eccentric nut adjustments, but FN's always came back with a vengeance. I have 4 Hondas(one of them a VFR VTEC) in the garage and have owned another 10 over the years.I dont expect quality, Japanese engineering and operation, but I need the Guzzi to be mostly consistent so I can concentrate on the road and not on the gearbox. I have done a lot of reading on this subject here and am not convinced that my problem is rider style but is mechanical, as many owners say they have trouble free shifting. My two cents,...
  15. Ha,ha.I am not one of the search nazis.I just assume people couldn't find it with the search engine. I have seen some people say their clutch was worn in the 30-40 k range. But obviously ,rider style could have a great effect on this. I would try everything you are looking at first, fluid, cover, spring, clutch fluid,as the clutch requires pulling the engine to replace.Ive been putting off replacing mine as some of the Scuras' have exploded. There was a recall on pre 02 transmissions, don't know which year/years were affected ,00-01?Probably addressed by previous owner, but would be worth checking out. Michael
  16. Hi Jacob, Sorry to hear about your troubles.I ,as many other owners experience the same problems as you.No known cure-all solution.Sometimes fluid change, spring replacement works (not for me,still a work in progress).Guzzi engineers should be embarrassed to let these leave the factory as such poor shifters. What year is your bike? Various common problems can change from year to year.Good idea to have your year listed on your profile. Here;s some links related to my saga, http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16155 http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16019 If you decide to bleed the clutch fluid.READ THIS FIRST ! http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16028 Keep us posted on your progress, may help the rest of us out.
  17. Just got this from Micha from MI, "Greg is regrettably not with our company anymore." This sucks. One of the last true enthusiasts we had on the inside. Hope the future is bright for ya Greg and thanks for all the help, knowledge and opinions. Bummer!
  18. Finally got her out for a test ride yesterday after clutch fluid change.no change in false neutrals other than they started pretty quickly before motor was hot.Guess I gotta remove cover again, bummer.I'll probably replace spring as I have a new one on hand.Maybe also that other spring in there and pawl arm. Does Guzzi offer a kit of all?I thought I read that here,Greg,Pete? Mark, how are you making out? Michael
  19. Thinking about going out Sunday in this area, http://maps.google.c...957141425a&z=12 ,found a bunch of beautiful smooth roads through amazing valleys, horse farms and rolling hills.Even though I been through this area many times and only live about 30 miles away,I was pleasantly surprised at what I found. We could meet in Red Hook about 10am, either meet for breakfast here, http://www.historic-village-diner.com/ or somewhere nearby or just ride and have lunch somewhere mid day 1-2 ish, split up around 4-5pm near TSP for people going north or south I always assume, on every off day I have that has great weather this late in October . could .be the last of the season.
  20. Matt,I also had a new spring on hand and didn't replace it because the general belief is "if it isn't broken don't fix it" here on the forum.Might be just enough stretch in the spring over time to not have enough resistance to make the gear selection clean. I did change clutch fluid but haven't been able to take her out on a test ride yet. Probably next week,if she still has problems then off with her plate! If you do replace spring I would be very interested if it helps. I'm sure you've replaced the clutch fluid at some point but if it's been a while note post #21 and avoid wasting time and money like I did, http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16028
  21. The funniest line on the forum yet! I finally go the effer off after several hours over 3 days. If your planning on doing a clutch bleed for the first time,STOP!, READ THIS FIRST! 1)Take the advice of others and soak the sucker overnight with a penetrant. 2)Disconnect the battery 3)Remove starter.I found I had more room to maneuver than removing wheel and coming from the back 4)Have a 6 point 10mm socket head, adjustable head angle ratchet wrench with a long handle and/or long breaker bar,and an 10mm open box wrench. I replaced the stripped stock bleeder with a Speed Bleeder. It is longer than stock with a conical end.I had a local race shop grind it off for $5.It also has a 11mm head so you get a little more torque to turn it.It's still slightly longer but I was able to get it in without forcing it.Very easy to bleed.Open valve, reservoir cap, pump lever, fill reservoir, close valve, close res cap, drink beer Here's low res pic of the valves,Speedbleeder on top,
  22. Pete from Reboot sent me pics of these luggaqge racks but wasn't sure what brand they were,H & B or Tecknic ,anyone know? Anyone know what max weight both are spec'ed at, Thanks, michael
  23. Thanks Jason for the input,No junk on drainplug, pulled and inspected cover Thanks, Michael
  24. While waiting for new bleeder valve to purge old clutch fluid to see if it will improve my shifting problems I found this, http://www.guzzitech.com/Gearboxes2-roper.html Jeez, whada write-up.If there were any questions as to Pete's Guzzi knowledge ,this would quell any doubts. Thanks Pete I was wondering if these principles would apply to the six speeds? Figuring it would/should,...
  25. Thanks Tom, Ya I read the older threads about SB's being longer and a little grinding down is in order.Once I get the older one out ,I'll match the SB length to the original. Anyone have an idea if original is available at auto part stores?
