  1. This must have been what Greg and Dave saw a few months back with his meeting with Galuzzi and the Piaggio Yes Men. Definitively more promising with pics, though hope those are closer to concept than reality or finished product.Maybe the Roadster transforms into a nice looking Italian bike Fit and finish look good, and some very nice looking parts. How bout the Ohlins-like front end of the roadster.Piggy back reservoirs at he bottom.Interesting
  2. Kinda looks like a Griso tank,,...eh, Depends on which Terablache shows up, Winners, Ducati 888 Ducati Supermono Ducati ST3 Ducati MH900e Ducati1000 GT Ducati PaulSmart1000LE Ducati Sport 1000 Losers,(in the eye of this beholder,NOT sales) Cagiva 900 Gran Canyon Ducati Multistrada Ducati Hypermotard Ducati 999 He can make either the ugliest or coolest of looking bikes. He also has had the Ducati factory and racing program behind him that has made the performance of these bikes respectable or class-leading.A respected designer is a step in the right direction, but performance, quality and reliability are just as essential to the survival of Guzzi.
  3. Very similar symptoms , http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...c=13958&hl= Take note of post #41. Still have new Hawker sitting in closet for a year and have had no need to replace the original Spark battery as it starts with no problems Michael
  4. Yes, we have already established that we don't like the looks, myself included, X10 mainly because it strays waay from VFR tradition. But if your in the market for a mainly, one-up supersport tourer ala the K1300S ,the accolades are coming in fast and furious that it would be foolish as a motorcycle enthusiast to ignore what there doing with this new bike .This is only one of about six different independent reviews Iv'e seen, and they all seem to be equally impressed. http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/newsandu...200f/index.html
  5. Ha,ha, You are wisely tip-toeing through the opinion field ,never know what you'll step in Learning how to tune your bike,ie.,valve adjust, balance FI's,and TPS will do wonders for how your bike runs, wallet and self esteem.I started with no knowledge of Guzzi's or basic tuning procedures and with help from the forum ,I got her running real sweet, except for that darn occasional pinging Hoping a racer X (Todd) PC3 and Mistral X-over will cure that and smooth out lower revs. Agree with the others that a well suspended bike will make your rides much more pleasurable. The PO had the Ohlins re-sealed/valved,sprung and fluid weight and quantities corrected for his weight( I was pretty close to his size) by a local race suspension shop. The thing is just planted in the turns even with sport touring rubber. Hope this can help.
  6. He wanted to use a Guzzi but he's still waiting for parts,...
  7. Uh oh! This could be something special, too bad it's fugly. Just have to wear a dark visor,... , http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/new...F/?R=EPI-119446 From MCN tester, "I’ve just stepped off the VFR1200F after a 25 minute session on track at Sugo in Japan lead by ex-GP rider Tohru Ukawa - the VFR1200F is a seriously easy bike to ride. 'It took less than a lap to get comfortable on the bike and despite the kerb weight being a hefty 267kg and the bike being fully fuelled, that weight wasn’t apparent at all. It drops into turns so easily that for the first half a lap I had to sit the bike up again a couple of times as it caught me out. 'Don’t confuse easy with boring - the V4 motor has character and lots of grunt all the way through to the 10,500rpm redline. The engine is strong all the way through, throttle response is lovely, the ABS linked brakes have bite and feel and wind protection is excellent. 'I was expecting more of a howling V4 engine noise but it’s flatter and deeper which wasn’t what I was thought it would be like…it still sounds very good though. Almost like an aircraft radial piston engine. 'After such a short session the overall impression is of a bike that feels just right for the sports tourer slot it has been built for. More to follow as I get more time on the bike. Keep checking back for updates or click here to read all the latest new "
  8. Great Vlad, hope you can make it. Client wants me to do a job on Saturday,so might have to bail.hopefully know by mid-week.If I do, I hope you guys will get together,I'll map out a nice day of twisties and food breaks and motel info. We're just about peak color now. Will also get out either Wed or Thurs and weather looks good,sunny/60ish if anyone would want to come out during the week. I'm hoping I can be off. Michael
  9. "never eat anything you wouldn't have sex with" So how,ha,ha,..is, Haggis ? "Going camping this weekend and we'll be lucky if the rain gets above 5 degC " That's what Oban single malts for !
  10. Busted KB !Yup ,who would say there's anything logical in buying a Guzzi,I guess my Italian roots draw me to the Guzzi.I'm also an art lover,no expert, just know what i like when I see it.Thought the Guzzi had great lines Haven't we all gone out with that certain someone we shouldn't have?
  11. That's a bummer!I'm not a big fan,as the arrogance and stubbornness of mama Harley really stifled Buell's vision and passion.Always felt and told friends that I want to buy an American sport bike but it has to be better than it's competitors. It was not.As good as some in some areas and better than some in others, but not as a whole package.QC was always suspect ,uh not unlike some other brands we know.At least I though they were fairly priced. Ah Piaggio,I know of a certain brilliant someone ,who is available to turn your MG brand around and in the right direction ! Hint Hint !
  12. Looks like a washout this weekend,so I'm rescheduling for next Saturday October 24th.Let me know if anyone's interested.
  13. Ooh,this sounds promising.Greg sounding positive is a Huge step in the right direction, hopefully they aren't just jerkin your or our chain/chains.Was Dave there? For me, yours and Dave's comments on where Piaggio has been going and where they should go ,have been right on.Hopefully they will listen. You guys know the American market, and it could be quite profitable for them if they could figure it out, ie., the Monster.Five of the last 6 new bikes,(maybe the Griso will be a winner, although it is not replacement for the V11S and has had some mech problems),have been met with a collective yawn.(Breva Sport,V7 Classic,Norge,Stelvio)All good bikes but not the best in any of their classes and more expensive than many in their class. How you can be successful with that combination is beyond me,.. Sorry off-topic,....
  14. Sorry I didn't mention that the VTEC wasn't in that 10 year run.OK now everyone knows ,don't know if anyone cares. I have owned 3 VFR's.A 4th gen(90k),5 gen, the 1998(40k), and an 02 VTEC(18k so far),so I know all the models pretty well.Yes the VTEC is the least successful of the last three generations,no need for the VTEC and had some electrical recalls which were repaired by Honda FOC.Unlike the multitude of issues that the V11 has had that most have been ignored by Guzzi. No matter what anyone says about being boring,no soul, run of the mill Japanese sport bike,it does a lot of things VERY well and is different by having a sweet V-4 and in the past ,simple,classy,Italian-inspired styling. The cool style ended in 1998 bike ,even though mechanically it was just about perfect. Real shame what they're doing to to it,even though Honda says this bike is NOT a replacement for the Interceptor. Love my V11,love my VFR,.... 1994 VFR,
  15. Oh you should read the bedlam going on at the VFR forum.take the Breva sport dislike and multiply it by 10. Usually Honda changes every four years between models.Since the 2002 VTEC was introduced, 7 YEARS ago, everyone has been speculating/arguing over what it will be.Ooh Honda got this one wrong, well at least the appearance .Heavier than the last model, smaller tank, fugly as all hell. It's probably gonna go like stink, as the HP's are gonna be in the 150ish range and finally a shaft drive. The magazines voted it best sport-tourer for 10 YEARS in a row.BOTY in 1998.Those are not easy achievements.Anyone who dismisses them without having owned, not ridden a friends, but actually put on at least few thousand miles, does not really understand how great a bike it is. At least they HAVE a new model to argue about. We don't even have the luxury of a rumor of a new, better model. Piaggio has forgotten us.
  16. Oh No,I may have started another conflict,...
  17. Um Gino yur a Scot, not like us soft arse whiny Americans. We could probably put wagon wheels attached to a 2 x 4 and you would say it's comfy Ha ha.A friend of mine got a great deal on a Breva 750 and didn't have the heart to tell him that it's not a proper man's bike.what's it got 50 HP? Pa-leese!
  18. OK Ben you asked for opinions,... Does value matter?Do you want to spend 20k+ ? Norge would be cool,but,,..9kish used to 14k new, unproven reliability over time, and known problems with other 4/8v,...I have been holding off.Now if someone wanted to give me one,.... Rented an R1100 several years ago in Ca. Great bike, handled great, unimpressive power.Nice build quality.Sort of like a Guzzi, with less power(if that's possible),a little more comfortable than a higher bared,RichMauded V11, and no soul to speak of. LT,GS,GT'S ,all great bikes,comfortable,reliable,..but dollar to smile formula a little lop-sided to the dollar. Would love a Duc ST,but not a serious long mileage bike, weekends ,week or two couple thousand miles would be it's comfort zone. And then reliability and service,... Goldwing, hell ya!Smooth, comfortable,no maintenance, reliable and a great handling bike believe it or not.But price does factor in if you want a relatively late model. I think the best value ,that includes 2 -up comfort, reliability,a little bit o soul and price is,.....a Honda ST1100! I have owned my 1993 model since 2001.No problems, only tune-ups and tires.Cost $3900.00 used. Now at 86K miles,X country, many trips in all kinds of weather.Still get comments from people on how nice she looks and they can't believe it's a 13 year old bike. If you get a post -96 model they changed to a 40 amp alternator that can handle as many farkles that you can throw at it.GPS,heated grips, vests, radar detector,...no matter, lotta DC volts to keep up,...unlike a v11 Got a sweet V-4 ,transverse-mounted,shaft-drive,kinda like a Guzzi.Don't let the detractors(most have never owned one,or even ridden one)tell you they're bland. The quiet exhaust not only fools Johnny Law that your a nice,polite,law-abiding motorcyclist,it fools many bikers that this is a boring bike.Well if you miss fixing bikes by the side of the road, I guess it its boring.I always let my biker friends visiting ride her and they can't believe how the thing handles. It's got tons of torque from 2k up.A good rider will have no problems keeping up with squids in turns. In the Black Canyon in Colorado fully loaded side, top, tank and camping gear on pass seat,I kept passing a GSXR in the twisties.Yes ,a much weaker rider, but about a 400lb weight advantage just shows how great a bike it is. You could probably get a sub 50k mile ,loaded, mint one for later model 2001-02 in the 5-7 K range. My 3 cents,... Happy hunting!
  19. Those are replacements? I would of sworn they were OEM I have always used stock pipes for various reasons but went with the Ti's for the Scura as it's a shame to cork up a special sounding motor.Always hated hearing an open-piped ,one in a million Harleys, go by setting off car alarms saying" look at me,look at me,mommy didn't hug me". That said ,the Ti's are not obnoxious, nice low rumble , even well into the powerband 5-6K.The downsides are they are expensive and becoming harder to find. And you would want the one made for the up to 01 bikes. They changed from 02 on.I couldn't get the bike to run like I wanted with the race ECU and used the stock one and runs perfect.I'm sure a PC3 and good map from racerX would cure that problem.I did do a full tune-up,so adjusting the TPS probably will be needed. Not a big deal if you have never done it..A dyno run,may or may not be necessary to make it perfect. Also as it did before putting on the cans ,pings under hard acceleration. Michael
  20. Doesn't always work. This female would not leave, with me and a friend, both of us over six feet, yelling, banging pots, spraying with a hose,AND throwing rocks (had a couple direct hits),Wasn't until SHE was bored that she meandered off. Most likely had cubs in the area, have seen several in the yard over the last few seasons. Just don't want people to believe any one tactic will work on all animals. That can lead to an unfortunate contact .Just because Black Bears are statistically non-threatening (had a fatality here in the Catskills a few years ago) you have to factor in the unknown.Cubs,hunger,sickness,...bad bear,
  21. Um, when I saw this guy in the yard I didn't go out and try to hug him !
  22. Hey Dave, Don't let the bickering turn you off.As dysfunctional as Congress, but ultimately successful this forum is. Checks and balances,... Both RH and Greg are highly experienced with Guzzis and passionate about the brand, and both major contributors to the forum. We agree to disagree most of the time, it can be highly entertaining.(this must be why reality and nature shows are so popular) Enjoy,...and learn.we all have to listen to each other and decide what the truth is for ourselves,...
  23. Ha,Ha,Ha, Yup same here, surrounded by the Italian side of my family for 20 or so years and have dated some 1st generation signorinas, lotta passion, lotta craziness,... PS Did you see the Catskill ride thread? Hope you can join us,.... http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15142
  24. Greybeard, mine didn't move for 2 years then all of a sudden worked perfectly and just as quickly became stiff.Common problem. There is a belief that the factory flipped the seat latch and FI lever springs. They install those on Thursdays and that is 3 for 1 Grappa days in Mandello Michael
  25. I'm gonna try to get the CB 919 out Sat morning ,as she's been ignored for a while and then go to this show for an hour or 2,Gotta hit the road by 3pm as I have to work in NYC at 6pm.If anyone wants to tag along or need road advice let me know. http://woodstockbritishcarshow.com
