PS Dave, I ,and the former owner of my Scura ,failed to mention the single plate clutch of our bike has been known to fail(flywheel) with very ugly and potentally dangerous results. :!: Many who know more than me suggest replacing it.Apparrently not impossible to do at home but requires removing engine.Welcome to the world of Guzzi!

Hi Dave, Welcome to the funhouse,..er ah forum. You've come to the right place and will be blown away by the knowledge and kindness you will find here. The search engine is great ,so for say the u-joint question just type it in and you will get a lot of results. Your right on all accounts of what should be checked upon getting the bike, there are many differences of opinions on many subjects here and valve clearances are one of them.10 and 15 are common values used .If the bike is running well I would do what you have suggested. If not balancing the Throttle Bodies and setting the throttle position sensor would be the next step on tuning.Just a few basic tools and you will be able to do it yourself, much information in the technical section on these procedures.i did it recently for the first time myself and it was relatively easy.I'm hoping to write an article on the experience in the near future. Also the forum is free, but must be a lot of work to design and maintain for our administrator Jaap, and donations are excepted via PayPal.He never solicits donations himself so I'll sing his praises for him.whatever we donate you get at least 100x return on your dollar in information. Try these guys, they are the cheapest and most credible guys I found on the web. http://www.euromotoelectrics.com/starterframes.html

I touched the pos connector on the battery to the ground cable on the ECU and blew my starter solenoid. Dis-connect the neg cable from the battery and then the pos lead. Then remove ECU.Install in the reverse order.

I have also been having problems with my Ti kit. No power below 4K,back-firing,herky/jerky off-idle. I checked TPS and set it to 525,put the stock ECU back in.Much smoother off-idle and below 4k,but still not enough power between 2-4k.Like a switch comes on at 4K and bike makes some usable power. Also dont have any sticker on the Ti unit,a sharpie marking that looks like S7. Does anyone have what they think is good power below 4K?

Who would win in a fight,Lemmy or God? Trick question,..LEMMY IS GOD!!!! I'll be busy next few weeks, but should be around Sept 17th on,little spots of color already on trees but weather has been perfect.PM me in a couple of weeks if you want to come up,I'm about an hour north on 87 from 287,xit 18 New Paltz. Yup,been on those many times adding Tiorati Brook Road to it and you have a nice day of roads.Always looking for new roads.I live in NYC but leave the Guzzi upstate at my house up there, near New Paltz if you want to venture a little farther,I can show you some nice roads up here. PS Big Cramps fan, used to play in a band with Candy Del Mar.

My question is,"where in northern New jersey is that road!?"

Randy,After you sync the TB's,you back off both set screws, say a 1/4 turn, one at a time to get correct idle, and not worry about balance?I would think not matter how careful you were they wouldn't be balanced dead on. How do you set fuel trim? Thanks, Michael

I did the valve adjust a couple of hundred miles ago and checked them a couple of times and they were spot on for euro spec,I'm not home but I believe that was .15,.20.Which I read here that would give me more mid-range,which i always felt was lacking with the bike.I'll try to take a look at them again this week. What valve setting are you guys using for a Ti/ECU set-up(stock other than that) that works I was able to get a good reading on the TPS in the key on/not running setting of 150mv,but when I tried to get an idle setting was running into the same problem as before, geting readings off the chart.Must not be making good contact with the probe.Using paper clips on the two outside wires. Also,do most of you, disconnect TBs,back out RH idle screw, key on/not running method to get the 150mv reading? If so i would assume we would have to re-balance Tbs everytime we did this as we're changing a good idle setting.I did re-balance after doing this and bike is running better with less back firing and a little smoother below 4k,I'll continue to tinker but may have a Mistral X-over,and Todd PC3 in my future. Hi Greg, Checked all exhaust and TB boots and everything was snug. Figured I would try TPS and TB balance and I cant seem to get correct readings for TPS.On my DMM,I have it set to mV setting but get 3 digits a decimal point and another digit. When I move the TPS with the TB's disconnected, right hand idle screw backed out,Fast idle cable disconnected, key on,not running, the numbers change but dont get in the 150 range.they go from . something to 50. something mVs.I would think I would see 150.0 mV.Am I mis-reading,mis-setting the DMM? Thanks, Do you still have Mistral X overs?

Hi Guys, Did a first home tune-up,tourqed heads, adjusted valves to euro spec, changed ,gapped spark plugs, balanced Tb's,adjusted TPS.Bike running pretty well but below 4k she will back-fire(more of a burble) and be a little rough on off-throttle.Checked TB's balance and TPS today and were spot-on.Where should I concentrate on as a possible fix.I know a PC 3 may help but feel I should get it closer without. Thanks, Michael 02 Scura with MG Ti + ECU

Hi Guys, Doing first oil change.Which is the correct drain bolt. The owner's manual shows 2 diagrams and says remove oil drain bolt 'B" .In one diagram 'B' is smaller bolt on the rear of the pan between the feeder tube and the larger bolt.In the other diagram 'B' is the bolt on the front of the pan between the two feeder tubes. In the shop manual it says the remove the larger bolt on the rear of the pan ,to the right of the smaller bolt. :!: Thanks Michael

Japan,Ducati,H-D,Buell,...Guzzi? Will Guzzi be the last to get on the 20th century technology band wagon and go liquid-cooled? This is the direction Guzzi should be looking towards. I want a Guzzi that will be sexy,up to date technology, competitive power, and NO EXCUSES quality.Looks like Buell reached for most of these goals,QC TBD... I dont mind paying a premium for a unique, quality, work of art motorcycle, but it has to compete in the market.70 year old design ,air-cooled mud pumps, dont inspire people to shell out 15k or more for a bike these days. It's your move Guzzi,.. Hey I'm doing my best to make this marriage work.I may have to get a VFR or Ducati and fool around on her with the Guzzi.

Hi Gary, I have a cracked HL bucket,so if we find a whole set-up maybe we could split it. Thanks, Michael

Just got back from my ,3+ hr test ride ,and the results are in. Bike runs as good or better than before I screwed with the adjustments when I had little clue as to what I was doing. This started with a TB boot cracked and I tried to fix it by playing with the linkage and TS screws. The bike runs as smooth as before with less pinging but still had a few instances under hard throttle. It is also burbling(not quite what I would call backfiring) under decel.didn't do it before, not bad but I'll have to tweak to get it right. What should I look at to eliminate that.Is it just getting a better balance or is there a specific adjustment that may help? RH Wish I could put the Scura in the overhead,as I'll be in San Diego in a couple a weeks for work. The RA bolts stripped but the shaft threads look fine.I had a pile of bolts from a wrecked V11 and found a couple that were the same size, different heads though,so I'll replace them with originals on my next parts order. On the the oil change,.........

Ding,ding,ding,ding,...dlaing your the winner!I forgot to re-attach linkage Got TPS readings good and running nicely, Hmm it's 80 perfect sunny day here in the Catskills,..take a test ride or work around the house ,what to do what to do? Give you an update when I get back!! Thanks again to especially to you RH cant tell you how helpfull youv'e been.Hopefully it will only be tweaking from here on out.I'm going to write up an article with pics and run it by you when I do for your input.

OK Throttle Balance question:I was able to get both sides balanced and idle at about 1050rpm but at that point I lost throttle response.Give it even just a small amount of throttle and the motor would want to die.Where should I look.I backed out air bypass screws one turn out from closed, should I knock them down a 1/2 turn?Lost daylight so I'll have to contimue tomorrow,so if you have any suggestions I'll try them manana and let cha know what happens. Thanks, Michael

Got it guys . Working on the TB's now.In a cool down period. It's the easiest thing to understand and the hardest of all the tune-up prods ,gettin that idle/balance right. Thanks, hopefully I'll have it sorted tonight if not tomorrow. PS Took it for the TBB warm-up ride, Nice tappy sound with those euro spec clearances!

I put my thinking cap on,I thought what the heck I haven't used it all day I'll give it a try,and voila,I figured it out .I did have the connector on and adjusted to 150mv or as close as I could get @ 146mv,key on,motor Not running. No shite it's sensative!, like a woman after changing the channel on her while watching Sleepless In Seattle. Do I want 150 or 525?Still fuzzy if those readings are running/not running,idle/higher RPM. Thanks, Michael

OK now confused about TPS. 1)I disconnected throttle body linkage.and fast idle cable.Backed out RH side throttle stop screw on back of TB.Removed screws from TPS,put paper clips in top and bottom wires of TPS connector.Turn key on ,bike not running.Get 0 V with TPS disconnected and see volts go up and down as I turn the female thingie under TPS cover.Seems like that if I wanted to adjust ,it I would have to have TPS housing connected and adjust RHTstp screw which would move female TPS thingie changing voltage. What am I missing, not understanding? 2)Do I want 150mv with key on?Or the 500-525 or is that at idle? Thanks, Michael

[Good luck, just don't go near the TPS screws with the torque wrench and you'll be fine HA,HA,HA,! Ah yes, I was gonna ask what movie you were talking about earlier... what Hump? That was from Young Frankenstein.

Ha Ha,This is like Stonhedge incident in Spinal Tap! "It's about to be trampled by a dwarf!" I got now,the thing I guess was confusing me was my Twrench only shows LB's and NM's.I'll just use NM's from here on out. Other than that everything went well, upped the valve clearences to 15 in 20 out,but they were spot on for US specs. On to TPS and TB sync,...wish me luck.
