Thanx Ratch!

I might try the Marelli PF4C TPS (HD p/n:27271-95) on my '02 LeMans. When I set the right hand throttle plate fully closed do I have to do anything with the fast idle/choke lever or linkage?
-
Sometimes when I try to fire up my '02 LeMans it almost seems like the amp draw from the starter is too much for the battery to deal with. I just replaced the original battery with an Odyssey PC545 and its still reacting the same way. I've always ASSumed that a relay either works or it doesn't, but now I'm wondering if I should try a Bosch relay.

My '02 LeMans didn't come with a tool kit (maybe I got ripped off???) so I placed the PCIIIusb where the tool pouch should be. If and when I get a tool kit (I know I should have one) it'll have to go in the tail section.

Poor running LeMans, banging in exhaust.

Okay, yesterday when I got home from work I rolled out the LeMans and pulled the boot off the left side throttle body. I fired up the mill and blasted some throttle body cleaner in there. It didn't really clear up the off-idle response so I slid the boot back on and snugged up all of the clamps. I decided to try the power commander even though the map is for modded intake, x-over and slip-ons. Right now I just have the Staintunes on it, but I needed to richen up the mixture so I maxed the low and mid settings. The bike still surges a bit at partial throttle/mid-rpm's. It ran good enough for me to ride it up to Rockwell Cycles where I had booked an appointment. They will be sorting through the injection issues, doing routine maintenance and installing the FBF filter kit and an H-pipe style crossover. They can also customize the map in the power commander. I suspect that the throttle bodies are way out of balance and I doubt now that the symptoms started with bad fuel. I checked the compression for the heck of it and got an even 160 lbs. on both cylinders. With the power commander installed I wasn't getting the banging in the exhaust, just some hiccups in the mid-range. I'll post again when I get the bike back. -

No, but I bought a Triumph from Cindy Crawford. Just kidding, LOL! -

I usually make every effort to tackle these sort of things myself, but my current workload really puts a damper on things. I might just schedule an appointment for a full service and tune-up. If they're willing to install the FBF intake kit, Stucchi x-over and the Power Commander, then so much the better. It'll save me the time which I don't have right now. I like doing my own service work, but my seven day work week has me running pretty lean right now and I don't even have a gerbil stuck in my b*tt! -

I drained (syphoned, actually) the old fuel and added fresh fuel along with some injector cleaner. It still runs like dogsh*t and the left hand throttle body visibly jumps all over the place at partial throttle openings. Kinda looks like the left cylinder is trying to suck the throttle body in through the intake port. Still some banging in the exhaust too. The air bleed screws were both about a quarter turn out from closed. I tried going to a half turn out, but it didn't seem to change a thing. It might be time for me to get in touch with Rockwell Cycles and have them take a look at it. -

It could be down to bad fuel, I'm not sure yet, but my first step will be draining the tank and adding fresh fuel. I'll have to take it from there. If it still runs poorly I might try some throttle body cleaner. I've never altered any settings from stock and the bike always ran great even after I installed the Staintunes. -
I installed an Odyssey PC545 battery today and fired up the old girl for the first time in months. She ran ratty and the left cylinder appeared to be doing nothing and remained cool to the touch. I pulled the plugs and checked for spark. It showed spark on both cylinders so I swapped the plugs around and re-started the bike. Now the left cylinder began to slowly warm up, but I was getting a lot of banging in the exhaust. I took it for a short sprint and it ran like crap. No power, pinging under load and more banging in the exhaust. I turned right around and brought the bike back home. I'm guessing that either the throttle body and/or injector is clogged up and dirty. I don't have a shop manual, just the trusty little owner's handbook that came with the bike. I want my Guzzi back dadgummit! I had plans to install a Stucchi x-over pipe along with FBF intake kit and I've already got the Staintunes. I got a Power Commander that's mapped for my set-up. So far I 've only installed the mufflers. I have the FBF kit and the PC waiting and ready, I just have to order the Stucchi x-over. Obviously, before I do any of this I need to get the bike running like a Guzzi should run. Any other LeMans owners ever experience difficulties with the fuel system (IE: injectors, throttle bodies, etc.)?

I went ahead and bought the Odyssey PC545. I checked the voltage out of the box and it was reading around 12.9 volts so I didn't charge it, instead I just went ahead and installed it in the bike. It cranks over fine, but now I have a different problem which seems to be either the throttle body or the injector for the left cylinder. The bike has no power and I'm getting banging in the exhaust. Woe is me.

Cool, the Odyssey 545 looks like a winner! Thanks guys. BTW: Can these be ordered online?

Hello all, It seems that the original battery in my '02 LeMans is cooked. It was probably due to overcharging. I had taken the battery out last winter and brought it up to my father's house where I left it in his heated basement. He decided to "do me a favor" and put it on a trickle charger for four hours at four amps! Now it appears to be toast. Anyway, what is a good replacement battery that will provide good service in a 2002 LeMans?

Thanx NOMODOC! It sounds like you're running a similar setup aside from the cans. I take it that those HP and torque figures are at the wheel. Those are good numbers!

Howdy everyone! I already have Staintune mufflers on the '02 LeMans and I'm thinkin' 'bout gettin' a Stucchi X-over and maybe a FBF airbox conversion. The question is: Will I need a PCIII? A while back the service tech at the dealership where I bought the bike said he can download custom maps. Which choice to make I ain't got me a clue. I just want to ride a sweet running and sounding LeMans. Thanks in advance.

Okay, I admit it, I'm a wimp.

I already have a set of Staintunes on the '02 LeMans and they look and sound super. For this coming spring I'm contemplating the purchase of the Stucchi X-over pipe and maybe the FBF intake mod kit. Will these mods require a different EFI map? Will I need a power commander? I have no intention of making radical modifications, I just want to fatten up the mid-range while producing a sweet exhaust note. Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

What do y'all do to the goose during the winter months? Should I drain the fuel tank or can I put some stabilizer in? I already yanked out the battery and have it stored in a safe (warm) place.
-
Should my '02 Guzzi have a factory supplied toolkit? If so, where is it? It ain't under the seat, I already checked.
-
Thanks for the feedback guys.

Okay, I plan on doing my own service work and I have some questions. Firstly, will I need special tools to change the oil filter? Secondly, when it comes time to do the valve lash adjustment can the rocker cover be removed without dismantling the whole blasted front fairing? Lastly, what lubricants will provide good performance and protection? Should I run synthetic in motor, trans and rear? Thanks in advance.

Welp, it just started on Sunday when I overtook another vehicle (cage) on the road. I clicked down into fourth and cracked it open. The bike accelerated hard, but also pinged noticeably. Not violently, but it was certainly audible. I thought maybe she was running lean so when I returned home I let her cool off, then I pulled the plugs. To my disbelief both plugs were black and sooty so I gave 'em a shot in the sandblaster and re-gapped 'em and screwed 'em back in. I test rode it and it seemed okay, but this was later in the evening and it was cooler outside. It has never pinged before, even after installing the Staintunes which I thought might lean out the mixture. I'm a little perplexed by the plug condition which would indicate a rich mixture. Hmmm, any enthusiasts have any light to shine on this? I'm all ears. BTW: I don't really lug the motor, but sometimes I cruise along with the tach needle just past 3,000 RPM.

Welp, I had the stallion out for a run today and upon my return I noticed that the taillamp filament burned out. I think its a Philips 21W/5W bulb. Anyone else replace theirs yet? What's a suitable equivalent? I also noticed that the little red reflector on the right side broke off where it mounts behind the muffler bracket. Obviously, these aren't major issues, but after spending a buttload of money on a bike its kind of disconcerting to say the least.

Thanks guys for the responses. I do realize that the sensor is for oil pressure, not oil level or oil volume in the sump. It just stands to reason though that if the the oil level drops enough it will move to the back of the sump under hard accelleration. I'll just have to keep a watchfull eye on the oil level in the future. I definitely want to change the dipstick, that stock plastic thing is useless.

Doh, it probably is the charcoal canister. My Bad!
