  1. @Walterg, On the matter of the oil leaks, do take time to investigate the eight leak sources while they are accessible. The two bolts at the bottom can be torqued and still leak past their thread sealant which should be renewed. Preferably with something not olive oil based like the factory sealant . . .
  2. Just to clarify, you are referring to the internal gearbox shafts that carry the various gears inside the gearbox? (To differentiate from the external "driveshaft" that carries the motive power from the gearbox to the final/bevel drive at the wheel hub.)
  3. With regard to the "rattle", @Lucky Phil had mentioned my input hub retention failure. I am not sure this could cause your noise, but the retention "nut" and "safety washer" should always be inspected when the gearbox is on the shop floor . . . This image shows the retention "nut" having loosened almost off the threads allowing the input hub to spin, and rattle, and rock, and roll . . . And here, fully fastened:
  4. This is a beautiful thing and shows great determination: Know the eight places a V11 can leak oil into that "clutch" space!
  5. I like mine capped, but probably no discernible difference if there is a tube between them. I can see no good reason to connect them unless you find that convenient. I did learn that simple rubber vacuum caps dry out, loosen, and crack over time. Switching to tight fitting silicone caps seems proper.
  6. The special flasher is just for the blinking speed that goes faster with the lower resistance LEDs. Yet, does not solve the connection through the single turn signal indicator of the earlier V11 (turning them into "4-way flashers"). Is this still an issue with the later V11 with both left and right turn signal indicators in the "dash?"
  7. Okay, I'll bite . . . I changed to an LED dedicated electronic flasher unit, but can still only run LED at the rear, incandescent in the front (or vv) to avoid having all four flash. This is an issue with the early V11 (through 2002?) that have one turn signal indicator and a battery/"charging" light. This set-up requires the resistor(s?) be installed on the indicator light on the dash to allow left/right turn signals. Later V11 deleted the battery/"charging" light and introduced a left and right turn signal indicators. Perhaps this arrangement does not require the resistors, but the rate of flashing still benefits from an electronic "LED" flasher unit?

  9. I had always thought Carcano's hotrod FIAT 500 was a "Topolino" that was produced from 1936-1955: Easy to see a Guzzi V-Twin behind that grill! Yet, in the 2002 Anima Guzzista interview with Ing. Carcano, he is quoted: "At that time I also built a V, 500 cc first and then a 600 cc. I put it on a Fiat 500. I remember that it gave me a lot of satisfactions. It was a motor, the 600, giving 36 or 38 HP. Exactly twice the output of the original Fiat engine, giving 18-20 hp. " Since the 1936 -55 FIAT 500 "Topolino" only made 13 hp, Carcano's hotrod 500 must have been a Nuovo 500 or a 500D:
  10. Let's revive it, instead!
  11. Ah, yeah, see replies to this from a couple weeks ago:
  12. Two years, 10,000 miles here. And I shift A LOT !
  13. Looking more like I should bring some razor wire and sleep next to my Sport . . .
  14. Now, a timing gear installation would be an epic SpineRaid Tech Session!
  15. May be best to either pm (Message) scud or use the "@Scud" embed to trigger a notification . . .
  16. This is exactly why I love you guys. None of my plausible bullshit ever passes muster . . . Eight weeks to the Eighteenth South'n SpineRaid. Waddington says, "Put the wrenches down and step away from the Sport, lad !"
  17. Welcome @Evan ! [Done. I put a month/year on the edit this time.] [edit: I went back and added dates to the other two ownership changes I made to the Registry.]
  18. Indeed. At 126,000 miles mySport has never run better. It tried to lift the front wheel on a hard second gear shift the other day. On the original timing chain/tensioner. I'm gonna need a good reason to take her off the road for the gear installation. And decide what other things to maybe do at the time. That can be a slippery slope: valves, guides, hotter cam, high compression pistons, polished rods, supercharger, water cooling, drive chain conversion . . . Yet, I do have this gorgeous gear set for when the time comes.
  19. She rocks. She blues. She croons. She plays her own guitar(s). I believe this is her best band, yet. What she does with a pedal board is second only to my own lead guitar guy (but she dresses more interestingly ) I love the way she opens the show, on Tampa Bay, with a cigar box guitar . . .
  20. Nice report, @ScottMc! Thanks for chiming in! I'd say 41.5 mpgUS is on the high side of average for a V11. Although, 40-ish is not uncommon with a very steady throttle and no repetitive (rich cycle) restarts or cold temperatures. Surefire formula for reducing your fuel economy? Ride like docc : go out looking for tight, twisty roads to row the gears, drive hard out of the corners, blip the throttle on the downshifts, storm the straights = 36.5. At the current cost of premium fuel, that difference in fuel usage costs me $17.65US for 1,000 miles of riding. SOLD! (Of course, I also have to save up for tires and brakes . . . )
  21. Gotta love that instant she looks down and declares, "OH! La benzina !! " (How many of us have been there?!? ) I just never pulled off a quick "mille lire " for a tank of gas without washing dishes for an hour or mucking out a horse stall . . .
  22. I had a 2009 3-Series with run-flat tires. Correct that, if they are punctured, they are not to be repaired. The rationale is that if they have been driven, deflated, on the structural sidewall, they are destroyed. If, in fact, a puncture is discovered before the tire entirely deflates, it can be patched like a conventional tire. Just good luck finding a tire shop that will cooperate with that sensibility.
  23. Unhappy. Happy! Pretty basic HOT<--> COLD Italian lady-ism. She's just wants your attention. Like: all of it! While you're waiting for parts, polish her heels. Er, I meant "wheels." She'll love you back.
  24. How 'bout it, @Baldini? (You don't have to admit to anything . . . )
