Motorcycle Grand Tour of Texas - 2022 edition - Repository -
docc replied to p6x's topic in Meetings, Clubs & Events
Very serious heat indices return to the southern USA next week. Be aware. I have been seriously heat exhausted twice while riding. It is doubly dangerous while underway and far from home. "Heat Stroke " is life threatening, but the sufferer cannot discern the difference and will be fortunate if those in attendance could.- 111 replies

More fun fuel usage math: My office commute is 18 miles (round trip). The Toyota 4Runner (LandBruiser) gets about 1/2 the fuel "economy" as mySport (17.6 vs 36.5 USmpg), yet the round trip commute to&from the office is more like 43 miles on mySport (more than double the straight-shot distance, but takes in some lovely hollows, creek roads, and ridge climbs). On top of that the fuel cost for the Sport's *premium* versus the 4R "regular" is about a US dollar more per gallon. So, today, taking the (fun) long way to the office on the (fun) Sport cost me an extra $1.96 over scowling my way down the highway in the LandBruiser . I showed up, and came home, a happier man. Where else can you get that for two bucks?

Very fun to hear from one of our members traveling south on Tennessee's I-65 asking, "Was that you, docc, on a silver Sport with Tenkno bags I saw ?" Indeed it was! Good to be seen!

The VintageCar LED is still going strong, 2 3/4 years and almost 12,000 miles/20.000 km, it has outlasted the poorly made Chinese unit and all of the hi-wattage (and hot!) Sylvania Silver Stars I used to use. Highly "conspicuous" and excellent beam patterns, both Lo- and Hi- (in the early V11 Sport steel bucket Bosch). I opened the bucket today to change out the 4 watt City Light and everything looks great. No signs of excessive heat.

The top is on backward in the image. Probably fine to reduce the size/shape for shipping, but won't likely reassemble that way.

V11 Workshop Manual for nuts ans screws 8M x 1.25 = 20-30 Nm Seems more like it . . .

@guzzler, Perhaps this is the ride you alluded to in this post on Eighteenth South'n SpineRaid back in February? " We were hit pretty hard with lockdowns and restrictions etc so when they lifted..... EXODUS to the regions especially as we still couldn't travel interstate, so EVERYWHERE was booked out. I'm going to try and getaway near the end of summer when it'll have settled down! Cheers Guzzler "

Done! Welcome @4Bazz ! [I also cleaned up the format for easier reading ]:

That torque spec is likely in the manual based on the fastener's shaft diameter and thread pitch. Remember, with pinch bolts to work in steps and know that the last fastener to fully torque will loosen the other. at the end of the session, work bath and forth between them until no further rotation occurs to achieve the specification.

I am trying to use @stewgnu's diagram to troubleshoot a 2002 LeMans blowing the 15 amp fuse and made a couple discoveries. I had to add labels to the six "Instrument Panel" lights (aka Warning Lights, aka Idiot Lights)- top to bottom: Hi Beam / Turn Indicators / Generator (battery) / Oil (pressure) / Neutral / Fuel (level). Also, @stewgnu, I wonder if you could reproduce the schematic without the "white-fades-blue" background? This makes it very challenging to read on a printout . . . If the schematic gets revised (especially with a white background), email it to me and I will re-host the image. TIA! docc

So, while not a "one off," the narrow tail looks to be a "custom made" product of Moto International. Cute name with the text compromised by a typographical error: "out [sic] liposuction tail section" should read "our"? Looks like they came unpainted and >some assembly required.< Cool find!

Agreed. Probably won’t even need to re-do the tune, just reset the idle if necessary.

Pretty cool: @Kane looks to make nine. I went back looking for the colors and dates of the runs. Somehow, I couldn't piece the sequence together. Chuck's first CAD, august24, 2016: First run, pure (badass) zinc chromate. September 5, 2016:

Over a quarter million miles of Moto Guzzi sitting here; original owners . . . Over 400.000 kilometers is down the road a piece.

Realize there is also a right side idle screw that can hold the throttle linkage open. It is rather obscured (below in red) and difficult to turn. Perhaps a "ball head" hex key would be helpful. @Pressureangle's advice about an air leak is right on.

The engine paint condition and the condition of the chin pad/ fuel filler cap suggest low mileage. But what do I know? My (fourth speedo) Sport thinks a V11 with sixty or eighty thousand miles is a spritely young chick . . . edit: I just did a little math and seems I've fueled mySport up over 800 times. It shows, even though I have tried to keep the chin pad and filler cap cared for. This filler looks pristine:

Reminds me of a girl I dated in college. She wasn't easy, but *WOW* she was "interesting."

This build rocks! Thanks for the updates (teases), @Cold Desert Rat ! Isn't this the best packed anything you've ever gotten from anywhere?

Oh! Right! With carburetors, no more regulator and a petcock for each side. No more trapped fuel!
