Startus interruptus fix caused other problems. Advice needed please!
docc replied to Jim in NZ's topic in Technical Topics
So, is it possible the Startus Interuptus remedy for the V11 requires an additional relay, rather than simply direct power to the existing relay? -

Excellent, then, man. Just trying to cover the simple bases and understand how your symptoms could be occurring. I very simply ran fused power directly to the Start Relay after removing the original power wire from the Ignition Switch. The primary difference in the V11, that I can see, is that our Start Relay is a 5-pin that routes power to those lighting circuits (through Relay#2) you describe unless the starter is engaged. When you engage the starter (cranking), does the headlamp go out? -

I would surely verify Relay#2 has not failed and stuck closed. That would give you those exact symptoms. -
@Voldav, here is a view of an early Sport (2000) with the voltage regulator visible between the (aftermarket) horns. It is the silver box with the cooling fins on top. The regulator, and charging system, can be checked with a voltmeter at the battery. Otherwise, this is more likely a relay, fuse, or switch(ing) issue. AFAIK, a bad regulator won't stop current to the Ignition Switch.

Just as a disclaimer, I have the earlier wiring on mySport. Yet, I just assisted another member in supplying power to his Start Relay on a 1200Sport. EDIT: My understanding is that this is the same wiring as the later V11 (through the Ignition Switch). [edit:Nope. Sure it is the same that it goes through the Igntion Switch, but the V11 has a 5-pin Start Relay to power the Light Relay, whereas, the 1200Sport does not.] @Jim in NZ, can you confirm which relay (from the front) you rewired ? Also, try replacing the second relay (ideally with a High Current OMRON) in case that relay has stuck closed. -
Hi, David! Welcome to the V11 forum! You're in a great place to work through your needs. Which year/model V11 do you have? The regulator is found mounted to the front subframe behind the forks, usually between the horns. Which fuse and which relay did you change? Relays can be a source of numerous issues with the V11. There are two wiring configurations between the early (1999-2001) and later (2002-2005) V11, so knowing what you have will narrow the search for solutions. Again, @Voldav, welcome!

Yeah, @paulnaz, how about a direct link instead of a link to the login? I scrolled their classifieds back to March and don't see any V11s.

Probably can still find you a bunk and a space in the garage at the South'n Spine Raid. There will be another Rosso Mandello there. Not sure anyone has ever seen two together . . .

@pete roper , Is the Griso 8v motor not the same as the 8v motor in the Stelvio and Norge ?

Clipped to the negative. Probing the connectors in the starter relay block looking for power with the ignition switch off. Surprised when the power wire (yellow) from the off ignition switch gave a faint glow. Even more surprised when the other three wires in the connector also faintly glowed (just slightly more than the yellow wire). If I understand correctly, one of those wires is to the starter solenoid, one comes from the Start Button to pull in the relay, and one should ground the relay. Again, test performed with Ignition Switch off and start Relay removed.

Four weeks out. Today, I rode 150 miles to spank mySport, work through the final Waddington Effect from the last tear down, and assist a fellow SpineRaider in preparation for the XVII. Something we have come to call "Bike Wash." Sort of a "Check My Work" session. mySport hates riding in the city. HATES high ambient temperatures 90-95ºF/30-35ºC. hateshhateshateshates *traffuck* - er, uh "traffic". Yet, she carried the day through some very challenging conditions. Not > perfect <, but roadworthy. SpineRaid or Bust!

Eh, well . . . 15 months from the first post to the first ride combined with @Lucky Phil's considerable talent and skills suggests that the V10 Hi-Cam does not just simply *pop* into a V11 RedFrame. Probably the most subtle, yet impressively executed, V11 "custom" on the planet.

For your reading pleasure, @VtwinStorm: A great chronicle, from beginning to now . . .

I had the pleasure of assisting @Goofman in the completion of the Startus Interuptus remediation on his 2008 1200 Sport. He was able to extract the female spade captured in the relay base connector so we could connect directly to that from the fused power from the battery without using any of the tiny yellow wire. I am really shocked at how small that factory wire is! And it comes all the way to the ignition switch? Just dreadful. Well, remediated now! Thank you, again, @Kiwi_Roy ! When checking for power on the yellow wire at the relay, the test light glowed very, very faintly with the ignition off. In fact the test light glowed dimly at all four of the connections to the relay base (most dimly at the yellow/power wire). All of this with the ignition off. What is up with this?

Why would no bulbs blow a fuse?

Ah, gotcha - the 5 amp Fuse #6, "dipped" light," along with the tail light and instrument illumination.

In American English, the turn signals?

Pretty sure we have critiqued this offering before. Yet, I am sure we won't mind doing it again. This way, @VtwinStorm, you can learn about the differences in the models and the year ranges. First, this is an early (1999-2001) RedFrame (short frame) Sport. Not "Café", per se, which could imply a later LongFrame Café Sport with handlebars instead of clip-ons and other differences. Have a look at the Model Year Breakdown thread in FAQ:

What are you trying to power?

(FWIW, what is, or is not, "in stock" is generally not discoverable on Harper's website. Best to give Curtis a call and get the actual status.) But, wow, there it is. Never noticed this piece before (looks like this one already got a little Velcro tab) . . . And another:

So, your V11 is considered a “carry over” from 2002, even though the 3 in the middle your VIN specifies 2003. Everything about your Sport will be like a 2002. I suspect some previous owner removed the eccentric in some effort to address shifting issues. There should be no brass plug. Pictures can be downsized and uploaded to an “Album” in your profile or to the “Gallery.” I’ve not been very successful at that, so I have all my images hosted on “imgzeit.” Others use flickr or smugmug or other hosting sites and post the image link in their replies.

So odd, to me that all the foot and hand levers are all intact. My levers break off if I fart or otherwise hiccup abruptly.
