That likely indicates a PO changed the switch using a generically sourced microswitch. Is this on your RedFrame Sport, or your Tenni? I'm curious how the clutch safety switch and the R/R "are actually related" . . .
-
When you have posted that 1400 Griso before, I wrongly assumed you had put a Guzzi 1400 motor in. Very interesting that it is a complicated matter of installing the 1400 pistons (and cylinders and cams?) into the 1200 motor. How much does this increase the bore? And change the compression?
-
I've been looking for an image of what the inside of a 1200 timing chest looks like, but then I see Pete say gears in the front, chains on the rear of the cylinders. This is the case even for the 2-valve per cylinder 1200? I did find this image on thisoldtractor. I reckon this shows the two cam located on the inside of the heads?

That's a great plan, Bill! It turns out Mandello del Lario's September celebration is at the same time as our Seventeenth South'n Spine Raid. Beginning on March 15 (next week), the anniversary of Moto Guzzi's incorporation, I intend to celebrate the centenary with each kilometer I ride the Sport as I reach for 200.000, then culminate in our celebration at the SpineRaid . . . Saluti, Moto Guzzi!

Not at all. The replies would have better followed the image they referred to on a prior page. I am looking forward to more pictures of your V11 !
-
Those replies were not directed at your handsome LeMans, Giovanni!
-
?? It is easy for me to understand the "cam in block/ push rods to two valves per cylinder."
-
Seems the "timing chest" of the 1200 must be a rather complex affair?
-
Well, there is that. No use staying up hoping for wet dreams.
-
I am trying to visualize how the "hi-cam" 1200 must look differently from the V11 at the timing chest/ heads and otherwise. I seem to recall that the 1200 Guzzi returned to an "alternator" between the cylinders above the engine block, instead of driven off the crank nose à la Tonti/ Spine Frame . . . Could that be fitted to a Spine Frame?
-
Thanks, man! I look at that and think, "Would a P.Roper Roller 1400 Single-Sparkler fit-up in that?" Pete should post up an image of The Green Horror as she sits now. A "before", if you will . . .

Well, it's funny, every time I think, "Ooh, there's a nice V7 Loop Frame! But I'd like another gear. Maybe a bump in the displacement. Disc brakes. More horsepower. A better gearbox. A more rigid frame. Bigger brakes. Fuel injection. Modern wheel sizes. Better suspension. Clip-ons. Rear-sets. Better lighting " . . . I always start with an early loop and end up right back where I am!
-
Gosh, I love the old loop fame tanks - so sensuous. I complained relentlessly about the "teardrop" tank that Guzzi then used for the "EV" series (or whatever they're called) hoping for an exciting replacement. Then the 1400 cut-out job appeared. Sheesh, not at all what I had in mind! At least the tear-drop job finally looked good to me on the CaliVintage . . .

My longtime buddy, Scott, is returning on his ST1300 from NY. He would like to split a room if anyone will take him in? As a token of commitment, he said he would send his half of the money now, and apply Guzzi stickers over all the ST's Honda badges . . .

Actually, no, I'm saying that if the battery seems sluggish it may be "field expedient" to turn the lights on a few minutes to enhance the battery's starting performance. After a few minutes with a current draw, the battery warms chemically and the deeper charge in the plates becomes more available. Unlike the old days when we would try not to "use" any of the battery's capacity before trying to start, the Odyssey benefits from this chemical "warming" (not so much as a Li-Fe, but it is still valid). Here is Odyssey's current (4/2018) list of approved chargers. Yes, it makes a difference! https://www.odysseybattery.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/ODYSSEY_approved_12V_chargers.pdf
-
Yeah, Odyssey publishes an "approved" list. Let me see if I can scare that up for you. It occurred to me that when the bike didn't start, you might have turned the lights on a few minutes and re-tried. I have seen the PC545 do amazing things using this (very non-intuitive to me) method!

Hey, now! The actual answer! It was quite fun posting the bull$#|! replies, though . . . -
Thanks, Pete! More clear to me now, that you are not shoe-horning a 1400 into your Green Horror. I recall very clear images and explanation you posted that the 1400 is no performance engine due to its head design and port configuration (I paraphrase). The "Hi-cam" configuration is a surprise to me! So, like a V10, but with chains instead of belts?

First, congrats on getting your Rosso Mandello! That is really exciting!! As for the PC545, they are awesome batteries. Sure, it helps to know their voltage/amperage requirements to get the most out of them. You will not have damaged the Odyssey on the low amp-low voltage charger overnight. But, Odyssey is clear that using these devices will damage the battery. Plus, without "at least" 6 amps, you will not be able to actually charge the PC545. If you have a voltmeter (you have a V11 now, you MUST have a good digital multimeter! ), record the voltage and turn on the lights/ hi-beam for about three minutes, record that voltage and observe what it recovers to after 10-15 minutes. Hook up a manual car charger of at least 6 amps (no limit, Odyssey says !) and terminate the charge when the battery reaches NO MORE than 15.0 volts. A healthy PC545 will take a week (or weeks) to statically fall to the charging threshold (12.65v) - then simply repeat (discharge then charge to 14.2-14.7v / not over 15.0). Or simply ride it once charged with 6+ amps to 15.0 volts!

Oh, wait! "That 50" . . . http://v2guzzi.blogspot.com/2021/03/ -
I hope you are indulgent of the ignorant knuckle-draggers and shaved-apes (me ) about these later (than V11) motors. I thought all the Griso were 3 different 1200s and know zero about the "1400". Two totally different animals? And what of this "hi-cam" talk? I thought that was all V10 stuff . . .

Perhaps their prop bike came from "someone" who thought the "50" badging from the earlier V50 series lends provenance (and designates the actual 750 displacement of the current V7.) Shoot, maybe that "50" emblem is lifted from some other model that ended in "fifty" . . . "Long ~ Legged and Easy to Live With!"
