Gratuitous Pics of Girls + Guzzi

Hey, now! The actual answer! It was quite fun posting the bull$#|! replies, though . . . -
Thanks, Pete! More clear to me now, that you are not shoe-horning a 1400 into your Green Horror. I recall very clear images and explanation you posted that the 1400 is no performance engine due to its head design and port configuration (I paraphrase). The "Hi-cam" configuration is a surprise to me! So, like a V10, but with chains instead of belts?

First, congrats on getting your Rosso Mandello! That is really exciting!! As for the PC545, they are awesome batteries. Sure, it helps to know their voltage/amperage requirements to get the most out of them. You will not have damaged the Odyssey on the low amp-low voltage charger overnight. But, Odyssey is clear that using these devices will damage the battery. Plus, without "at least" 6 amps, you will not be able to actually charge the PC545. If you have a voltmeter (you have a V11 now, you MUST have a good digital multimeter! ), record the voltage and turn on the lights/ hi-beam for about three minutes, record that voltage and observe what it recovers to after 10-15 minutes. Hook up a manual car charger of at least 6 amps (no limit, Odyssey says !) and terminate the charge when the battery reaches NO MORE than 15.0 volts. A healthy PC545 will take a week (or weeks) to statically fall to the charging threshold (12.65v) - then simply repeat (discharge then charge to 14.2-14.7v / not over 15.0). Or simply ride it once charged with 6+ amps to 15.0 volts!

Oh, wait! "That 50" . . . http://v2guzzi.blogspot.com/2021/03/ -
I hope you are indulgent of the ignorant knuckle-draggers and shaved-apes (me ) about these later (than V11) motors. I thought all the Griso were 3 different 1200s and know zero about the "1400". Two totally different animals? And what of this "hi-cam" talk? I thought that was all V10 stuff . . .

Perhaps their prop bike came from "someone" who thought the "50" badging from the earlier V50 series lends provenance (and designates the actual 750 displacement of the current V7.) Shoot, maybe that "50" emblem is lifted from some other model that ended in "fifty" . . . "Long ~ Legged and Easy to Live With!" -
I talked with Walt (Lodge at Tellico) today on the phone. What a golden guy. Our Seventeenth "South'n Spine Raid." I told him I thought it is our twelve'th staying with them at The Lodge at Tellico. Yep: year one there (in Tellico): 2010 . .

Er, you gots to "know a guy" . . . But not these guys!

Understanding the need for "pre-loading" the shifter
docc replied to daviscr5's topic in Technical Topics
The V11 6speeder has come in for some criticism over these many years: the early gearbox recalls (that took three or four years to issue), the subsequent pawl spring failures, upper mount case cracks on the ShortFrames, aluminum flywheel failures on the single plate clutch models (not gearbox, I know, but contributes to the stigma). I have done the clutch-less shifting (and I know others that are quite good at it), but I *feel* better about using the clutch to take up the strain of gear changes instead of parts inside the gearbox, itself. Admittedly, I've applied the shifter preload/clutch take-up method to rowing the 'box on my ///M roadster and it transformed the smoothness and precision of the gear changes. Being in gear, and accelerating, is always better than jerking the gear change, being between gears, or missing gears. Or using up the gearbox in the name of fast/hard shifting . . . -

Dunno about "all the time" but she's got "all the gear" . . . . -
Understanding the need for "pre-loading" the shifter
docc replied to daviscr5's topic in Technical Topics
I've long used the preload technique (to good effect), but after performing (most) of Lucky Phil's V11 Shift Improvement, I became much more deliberate. It surprises me how much preload pressure can be applied before the clutch gets "blipped" for a crisp shift. I realized that I was mostly doing this on the upshifts, but found the downshifts benefit as well. It also occurred to me that it is rather counterintuitive to the typical "Clutch-> Shift -> Declutch." It is more like "(pre)Shift->Clutch/declutch" . . . -

"Villanelle," yah? I see this is BBC, so I've not seen any of this. Wait . . . I haven't watched any "television" since the early 80s, so would not have seen it anyway . . . Thanks, p6x! Lovely! -

@p6x tells me if you see this V7 coming, you better hide . . . -
Epic necrodredge thread bump! I stumbled on this in a web search and couldn't believe I was brought back to my very first thread/post on these forums. Eighteen years ago! For the record, these early gearboxes were recalled by the manufacturer. Mine was replaced entirely later in 2003 with about 27,000 miles. I kept try to tell everybody my Sport quit shifting right!

Kiwi_Roy's first post in this thread is very explanatory. Plus, the reminder that the connectors for the Fuel Level Sensor and the Electric Petcock can be switched. And that is decidedly ungood!

That is a classy look! The only cf (CFRP) on my Sport are the Moto Guzzi "For Off Road Only" exhaust canisters. In 2000, I was thinking carbon fiber (CFRP) was still pretty cutting edge at that time. Probably not, though. I also remember the assertion about electrolytic activity in contact with aluminum. Has anyone actually seen this? Should something like the alternator cover be have a good paint layer on the surface of the timing chest where the contact is? "The carbon fibers can cause galvanic corrosion when CRP parts are attached to aluminum." (Wiki CFRP) [edit: Wait, there is that plastic spacer under the alt cover. So, not contact there.]

Generally, it is known as "Legnano Green." It has been used on things other than Moto Guzzi (ie:bicycles). Even the different Guzzi do not look exactly the same (V7 Telaio Rosso vs V11 Sport). We have had a couple members post formulae to achieve the V11 color. Let me see if I can shake down any links . . . edit: here's one at guzzitech from a web search referring to a Nissan paint: https://www.guzzitech.com/forums/threads/cracked-v7-café-classic-paint-code.6524/ This from Bikecolours in UK. He states it is available in aerosol: https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-STAGE-MOTO-GUZZI-TOUCH-UP-PAINT-KIT-V11-SPORT-INJECTION-1997-2003-LIME-GREEN/261274617752?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Relay Hotline?

Mine typically begins to glow, off and on, around 150 miles/ 240 km. By the time it is full on and bright, I'm at the roadside performing the Tip-Slosh . . .

How low is the fuel level in the tank that you would expect the light to come on? Do the Neutral and Oil Pressure lights come on with the key? (Looking for maybe a grounding terminal left off the battery on reassembly ...)

There really is amazing riding at the South'n Spine Raid, but there is something special about the Parc Fermé . . .
